Trading Update #12
2009-03-27 17:49:51
It?s the end of another week, so it?s time for another Trading Update so as to keep the wheels greased on our march to FANTASTIC FOUR #1. The Trading Stack is growing ever larger, despite my best attempts at keeping it manageable?just look below for all of the new books that have been swapped in these last few weeks. Now, maybe it was all the positive vibes I was feeling towards the Tradee community as a whole, with people donating their comics both to my efforts and the efforts of the teachers whose e-mail I ran a few days ago. Either way, I find I made a number of swaps in this go-around in which I don?t think I really got the best of the deal. So I?m going to need to redouble my efforts moving ahead.

In exchange for the IRON MAN ARMOR WARS TPB I received MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #79 $80, SECRET WARS #10, DOOM 2099 #2, FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #23 and a well-read copy of HEROES REBORN: THE RETURN #1. I swapped the KRAVEN?S LAST HUNT TPB for a coverless copy of the 1966 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN COLLECTOR?S EDITION paperback. I gave up the three issues of POWER MAN AND IRON FIST (#81, #83 & #88) for a copy of MS MARVEL #20. I traded TOMB OF DRACULA #16 & 17 for CHAMPIONS #4, 7, 9 & 10. I swapped AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #170 for a copy of X-MEN #25 with a hologram cover. TALES TO ASTONISH #89 brought in copies of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #258, 260, 261, 265, 274, 275 and HULK #333. In exchange for the signed X-MEN ALPHA, I got all seven issues of the recent Neil Gaiman/John Romita Jr ETERNALS series. I let UNCANNY X-MEN #97 go for FANTASTIC FOUR #228, 229, 270, 271 & 272 to a youthful collector who was trying to complete a collection of X-titles. I gave up all four issues of the WOLVERINE LIMITED SERIES for CAPTAIN AMERICA #102. I exchanged UNCANNY X-MEN #102 for DAREDEVIL #17, and UNCANNY X-MEN #107 for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #92. SPECIAL MARVEL EDITION #16 brought me CONAN #20 with art by Barry Smith. And JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #90 netted a small flood of books: STAR WARS #1, HULK #108 & 115, IRON MAN #2 & 4, THOR #139, STRANGE TALES #137 & 139 and MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #12.

Over on the Stan front, I let the last of the Stan-donated items go. Stan?s STRANGE TALES #141 got me JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #124, UNCANNY X-MEN #13, TALES OF SUSPENSE #75 and DAREDEVIL #14, and Stan?s ASTONISHING TALES #9 brought in FANTASTIC FOUR #90 & 91 and UNCANNY X-MEN #126.

There are a couple of other trades that I was to draw attention to in particular:

Marvel?s Jim McCann traded me an especially juicy item for AVENGERS #16?a copy of STEPHEN KING?S DARK TOWER #1 signed by Stephen King himself! Jim also added AVENGERS #87 and ASTONISHING TALES #1 into the deal.

In exchange for AVENGERS #10, I was traded a Twin-Pack of Cyclops Mini-Statues sculpted by Randy Bowen.

A kindly Tradee simply up and donated a copy of THOR #142 to help out the cause.

Finally, Tradee Scott Harris sent me a very clever extra. It?s a copy of PATSY WALKER #97, cover-dated October 1961?the month before FANTASTIC FOUR #1 went on sale. So it?s not only the oldest book in the Trading Stack so far, but it?s virtually the last book published before the Marvel Age of Comics began with FF #1.

So this leaves the Trading Stack as:

TALES TO ASTONISH #44
AVENGERS #14, #17, #18, #20, #42, #87
NICK FURY #2
FANTASTIC FOUR #20, #48, #70, #90, #91, #100, #228, #229, #239, #242, #270, #271, #272, ANNUAL #23

My X-Men #1
It looks like someone made a trade for my old X-Men #1 that I traded you for that Marvel Encyclopedia. I wonder what they traded for it.

Nevermind.

I hope you have an intern doing this, or you'd never get your day job done! And with the ever increasing numbers, are you planning for a final month "dollar bin" sale and buy FF1 for cash?

Trading
I really wanted the FF #48, but I looked through my non-FF stock and it was so pitiful I figured you'd just be insulted if I offered. And it seemed like a "two steps back" kinda thing to offer FF books for another FF book.

Oh well, I wish you luck with it!
