Be Like Mike! The Deodato Q&A

We sat down with upcoming SQUADRON SUPREME artist Mike Deodato Jr. to discuss his career in comics, Underdog, Spider-Ham, hsi preference in cheese, and his position on mimes, cowboy hats and, above all else, supermodels. Here’s what he had to say.

1) So, Mike, if you weren’t a comic book artist, you would be…?

A professional illustrator for magazines -- as a painter or drawing spot illos. I'm hard-wired that way. I can't imagine NOT being an artist of some sort. Maybe I'd teach martial arts on the side. Barring that, I could interview models for Victoria's Secret.

2) Did that. Hard work! Naomi Campbell punches like a welterweight. And don't get me started in Heidi Kulm! Who’s stronger -- Hulk or Thor?

Hulk doesn't need no puny hammer. Hulk is strongest one there is! The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets!

3) So I’ve heard. Underdog or Spider-Ham?

Underdog. Because Spider-Ham isn't real. And because his theme song is cool.

4) That it is, Mike. That it is. So: When are cowboy hats acceptable?

When a friendly girl is wearing them with chaps while she's riding.

5) Close enough. The correct answer is, “When worn by cowboys or wild wimmin.” So…Clogs on men: An idea whose time has come?

And gone.

6) Bonus points for that. Complete this sentence: American Football is to soccer what ______ is to _________.

"....is what Mike Deodato, Jr. is to Captain America."

7) I'll figure out what that means later...Earth, Wind & Fire or Blood, Sweat & Tears?

Why not both? You need both classic bands to have all four elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. They go together like meat and potatoes...ham and cheese...Stan and Jack...Deodato and supermodels....

8) Right. I’m detecting a theme here…So, you're PRO-supermodel, right? Okay, P. Diddy…Puffy Daddy…Diddy…or Puffy?

Puff, your magic's draggin'.

9) Sorry, but I’m going to have to deduct a few points for that one, Mike. David Hasselhoff or John Tesh? And no saying, neither. Commit!

Hey, Hasselhoff had the car and the babes. He wins hands-down.

10) Correct! Can you believe David Finch actually said Tesh -- I can barely look at him anymore. Billiards – a sport?

If you don't get snookered.

11) You’re on a roll, Mike. Favorite cheese?

Brazilian cheese. I have it with coffee and bread almost every morning.

12) Dee-licious! Best song ever?

"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen.

13) Sorry, the correct answer is “Free Bird. But don’t worry, everyone misses that question. Best book ever?

It's not been written yet.

14) Whoa. Profound. Your position on mimes?

As far from them as possible. A mime is a terrible thing....

15) You just got back the points you lost for the Puffy joke. And now the final question, Mike: You. Mike Deodato Jr. The Man. Totally macho, or too many nachos?

Totally macho. I'm fit as a fiddle and better tuned.

Love these interviews
Like it sayd these are great, but I do miss the Shang Chi or Iron Fist, a lot harder to answer than the Hulk or Thor.

Wuv you guys!!
I admire Mike for being an artist down to the core. That is just awesome to know that people like that are working on comics because they are the ones who bring so much life to their work. And once again these interviews are 2 great. ^_^

Where can you get Brazillian cheese?
Actually, I'm pretty sure they import it from Latveria. Check the label, though. The last thing you want is Genoshan cheese.

Cheese
then they should call it Latverian cheese. or maybe the person that invented the cheese is Brazillian cheese.

Gov'ment cheese
Could be, you never know.

Also, the ruler of Latveria is a nut, but he isn't a Brazil nut.

And the movie "Brazil" doesn't take place in Brazil.

Go figure.
