Great Movie
The movie was the best yet. I have just one question Sam said there would be a SM4. The ending didn't let into that. Sorry if that spoiled it for anyone!!!!!

get over yourself SM3 rocked
some of you should be so lucky that marvel makes these movies, if your going to to be an idiot(that cant spell) just buy the comics and stay the hell out of the theater while the rest of us get to see some of our favorite charicters even if they done "stick" to the true story- its fantasy anyway and yeah you say it sucked but get over yourself you know you going to buy the dvd special edition like the nerd that you are. So--- just shut the hell up!!!!!!! go get em Stan Lee

I went into this movie with the high hopes that it would compare with the other previous movies. Boy was I disappointed. It seemed that Sam Raimi tried to put too much into a movie and that he did not give enough time to develop the characters, especially the villians. There was so much cheesy parts in the movies that it was ridiculous and it seemed that the plot of the movie was strung together by adding new characters that were not even in the previous movies like Gwen Stacey and Harry Osbournes butler without revealing how they got there. The backstory of the villians was lackluster, in the first two movies the audience found why these villians were doing what they were doing and how they became what they were. In Spider Man 3 these important story developments were lazily done like Flint Marko stumbling onto a testing zone in the middle of a swamp they could have at least attempted to give a reason why they were out there and what they were doing. Even the appereance of the venom symbiote did not make sense and how it got there. A metorite that falls right next to Parker. Come on that was just lazy writing. The worse part of Venoms appereance is that Raimi introduced JJ Jamesons son which could have been used as a logical means to get venom onto Earth. Think of Spider Man the Animated series. I could go on but I would refer to much to the movie and I assume that there are some wide eyed people out there hoping that this movie will be good. For me I have not been this disappointed since I saw X-Men 3.

truely terrible film. i have never walked out if a cinema over a bad film in my life and i sat through A.I. and Dead or alive but i came very close to leaving over this film. I am 6 quid worse off and am trying to think of what i could have done with the 4 hours i wasted on this film.

Stan Lee's Starring Role
It was priceless. The entire theatre practically gave him a standing ovation just for appearing onscreen. Although NOTHING was funnier than badass Peter Parker. It was a great film.

Spider-Man 3 or The Life and Troubles of Pete
Spider-Man 3 should really be called
"The Life and Troubles of Peter Parker"
Because thats what the movie is really about, not Spider-Man.
Main Problems:
Peter Parker turned Emo
Peter also cried like a girl several times
Sandman was not really in the movie much
Harry Osborn aka The New Green Goblin was pointless
and
Eddie Brock or the black space stuff that I guess was Venom but never had a name in the movie, didn't even have enough time to show off all of his power!
Now I don't want to ruin the ending for anyone but......
The ending was Peter and MJ hugging in the sunset with the picture fading to black. No showing of a sequal. Venomis dead, Harry is dead, Sandman went with the wind because he loved his family.
The only good part was the beginning credits!
Now I'm just one voice, but I want my money and the 2 hours of my life back!
Sorry but the movie was bad.....sorry

spiderman 3
I went to see it last night.
The graphics were AWESOME!
Yeah half of it was inaccurate to the comic books but for the sake of viewing purposes, it was an amazing movie!
Sure peter parker turned emo a tad, with his side fringe and eyeliner but thatmade it funnier.
The whole Venom thing was, however, a let down as he was hardly on it and was never given a name.Although the symbiote was featured through out the movie, the peak was some what of an anti climax when venom and eddie were destroyed, Venom would NOT have gone down that easily.Harry Osborns involvment in the final battle was,in my oppinion, a stroke of genius. It made the movie more interesting to see the hob goblin and spidey fighting side by side. However the involvment of gwen stacey was a flop. None of the scenes with her were accurate and she was rather pointless to the story. Also the way the writers made the sandman ben parkers actual killer was rather far fetched and strange, but it kind of worked.
Over all it is a good film and I recommend it to all spidey fans if you can sit through a VERY long movie,it's worth it.

spider man 4?
i havn't seen the movie spiderman 3, but i heard it was good. i believe daphnevenom on thier opinion about it though. even though the movies never TRULY go alone with the books comics, etc, its good for what you get out of it. but if they make a spidey 4, i hope it turns out bettter, and sticks to the truth.:)

Spiderman 4..
I doubt they will make a spiderman 4 as tobey mcguire has stated this will be his last spiderman. However it would be AWESOME to see the continuation of the venom storyline and even the involvment of the rest of thesymbiot series including carnage, riot, scream ect and even toxin. That would make and AMAZING movie.

Venom
I saw the midnight showing and thought it was a great movie. The special effects were mind-blowing. It didn't really bother me that the movie strayed from the actual storyline too much, but Venom was just not given any justice. Ever since I heard they were making a Spiderman movie I was eager to see Venom. I finally realized he was going to be in 3 and couldn't wait to see it. When I did though, I was disappointed. Not once was his name mentioned, he was undersized, didn't have the look, his spider on his chest wasn't really noticable, voice wasn't there, not in the movie very long, the great rivalry between Venom and Spidey wasn't there, What about, "We are Venom!" nor did he put up much of a fight. Venom just wasn't..........Venom. I understand trying to get so much in a single movie-and there was so much to have to put in this one-but come on, Venom is way too popular of a character to have done this to. It just looked like good spidey vs evil spidey. Sandman had way more movie time, lines, fighting, etc I really hope a 4th movie is made that'll redeem Venom or a Venom movie. I urge everyone to see this movie......it really is something to see but if you're a big Venom fan like I am, you'll be letdown and hoping for another movie to right the wrong.

The end of spider man?
First of all the movie was awesome well worth the wait. But the way it ended leads me to believe that there will be no more spider man. Venom was out of thid world. You can't kill him that easily. There is more story that needs to be told that just can't be it.
Posted by soup257 on 2007-05-06 20:25:26
seen it twice already
i wanted to watch the movie again right after the first time i saw it but no one wanted and i'm not gonna see a movie alone. so i went with some other friends the very next day. good times. my favourite of the spiderman movies easy. its destroys spiderman 2 and the first might only be better since its the first and all. sandman was cool and i didn't even like him in the comics. they did a good job on him for sure. and the effects were really good. venom was awesome but i gotta say with other people here that he wasn't in it enough. i was hoping he would only be in it towards the end so it would lead up to a spiderman 4 where he would get a whole movie as the main villian. oh well... if comics have taught me anything its that you can come back from the dead with a creative enough author! unlikely but one can wish. maybe that little bit that doctor connors had with him will somehow make carnage.
i better end my rant now. it getting long.
ps - tobey trying to cry and that news reporter lady in the end kind of hurt to watch but other then that it was friggin awesome

WHY??!!??!??!?!?!?!
I can't believe they did that! what happened to muscle-man Brock??!! Venom cries like an alien?! what about the tough and disgusting sound? his appeareance was very little the 20 minutes he was used in the movie were a waste...the suit?! what in this world was that!? they crashed it for me..now I have mental and emotional issues due to venom's complete performance on the movie! :'(
Posted by venomrocks921 on 2007-05-07 00:13:14
by the way...
Was that it? no more awesome spidey movies? why? Venom is the strongest of all spidey villains!!! "they" just can't die that easily!!! the story left a blank of what will happen next...that leaves me to my next point! what about carnage?? is he excluded from the saga?
Posted by venomrocks921 on 2007-05-07 00:18:45
Venom
Yeah I think carnage should be in spidey 3 cos he is the second coolest bad guy!Im goin to see it today and it better be good!:}

3rd Times a Charm
Actionwise, this was the best out of the three. black suited Spiderman was a beast in the movie. And his team up with Harry @ the end was just...WOW!!! I am definitely getting the special edition DVD.

spidey 3
Sam Raimi did a very good job with Venom. He couldn't have made him like the Eddie Brock in the comics because the comics version bonded with the suit for a long while before even meeting Spiderman. The movie version doesn't even have time to think up a name. As a matter of fact, why would he? As for people who think that Peter cried too much in the movie...have you ever read the comics? Peter Parker is a whiny nerd. And the symbiote should have made him an overly aggressive nerd. Not evil. So I think the movie did the characters a lot of justice.
Posted by tameshia on 2007-05-07 15:18:20
Your all are not Observant!
First off, Sam Raimi's rendition of venom was lame and half assed, black and white are obvious signs of poison and danger in the insect world, thus the blk/wht of venoms costume, raimi made it black and grey with some lil dumb spider on it. WHACK! then the story we know doesnt follow the comics. (do any of these type movies do the original plots justice)? but for viewing purposes it will suffice. venom is entirely toO strong an adversary to be killed off so easily. venom was a hulking mass of symbiote goo like substance all over and large fangs with the tongue. this lean and skinny venom, whack, eddie brock was not a big guy either but the venom allowed him to hulk up in size, and shape shift. THE ONE THING YOU ARE ALL FOGETTING IS THAT PARKERS PROFESSOR WHO WILL BE IN THE NEXT FILM AS THE LIZARD, STILL HAS SOME OF THE REMAINING SYMBIOTE HE WAS TESTING....VENOM IS NOT DEAD, CARNAGE WILL RISE IN THE FINAL AND TOBY MACGUIRE HAS SIGNED ON FOR THE 4TH INSTALLMENT OF SPIDEY. THERE WILL BE 3 MORE IN THE MAKES OVER THE NEXT 10 YRS, TOTALLING 6 BIG BLOCKBUSTERS.
Posted by MysturfantastiK on 2007-05-07 17:07:18
it was good. 4 is inivitable.
I thought it was a good movie even though the venom/symbiote thing was a bit of a let down. Even thoug Mcguire says that this is his last he'll comeback. That is, if he can make money on it. And for every body who says it was innacurate to the comics, than u should just stop wachting movies based on comic books. Overall, great film.
Posted by mutantflame on 2007-05-07 17:34:04
Carnage
I agree Carnage would be great in a Spider-Man movie, but including him in 3 would make it longer and, above all not fit in. It would be like the whole Harry Potter saga in one book, or Star Wars in one movie.

Spiderman 3 would have been better if...
I'm a huge Spiderman fan. Been one since I was 10. But despite my high hopes, I'm disappointed with Spiderman 3. When will Hollywood learn to just go by what Marvel has written down in the comics. Don't stray far from Stan Lee's original ideas! The movie may have made huge money, but I think this is a bad way to judge if Spiderman 3 was a good addition to the series. I feel that it is by far, the worst Spidey movie yet.
So in my opinion... if the know it alls in Hollywood followed the following version, the movie would have made more money and there would have been no question that the movie delivered a great story!
How Spiderman 3 should have been told:
1. Movie opens with Flint Marko escaping from prison. In his effort to escape, he climbs over a fence of a research facility. He keeps running and doesn’t see a sand pit where scientific tests are being conducted. Marko falls and gets trapped. By the miracle of science, he bonds with the sand in the pit and becomes Sandman.
2. Movie cuts to another scene. We find Harry in the shadows dealing with some hired thugs in a warehouse known where villains gather. His obsession and mislead anger for Spidey drives him to look for criminals to kill Spiderman. Here we get cameos of Spiderman’s classic enemies.
3. Harry remains in the shadows and continues to look for someone to do the job. He gets interrupted by Sandman who walks in demanding for the “head” of the house. Still groggy from his transformation, he comes to look for a job. The rest of the villains gets angry and starts mocking Marko for trying to work with the “big boys”.
4. Sandman gets sngry and shows off his powers by kicking the crap of some of the villains. Harry stops the fight and offers Sandman the job after being impressed with the Sandman’s prowess. Marko accepts Harry's offer.
5. Movie zooms out of the warehouse and moves to a different location in the city. Here we see Spiderman swinging through the city doing his aerial acrobatics (more so than previously seen to show how AMAZING Spiderman's agility really is). He is on his way to class but has a prearranged meeting with MJ. But Spidey spots a robbery and busts the criminals first. After apprehending the criminals, Spidey realizes that he’s almost running late to meet MJ, which he agreed to meet before class.
6. Spidey swings away and finds MJ rushing out of their agreed meeting place. Peter takes off his costume. Upon meeting MJ, MJ tells Peter that she has to go. Peter gets annoyed that MJ has to run off again. (MJ after all, is a successful theater person and recently lands a job in a tv soap now.) MJ gets angry at Peter for giving her hard time and tells him that he’s not exactly available all the time. MJ proposes to break up due to her frustration. Peter reluctantly agrees. Peter exists by saying that he has things to do.
7. As Peter exists, he runs in to Gwen Stacy. Gwen is his classmate who was just on her way to Empire State University. Peter begins talking to Gwen… who somehow managed to squeeze out the juicy information that he and MJ are over. Gwen is excited because she secretly likes Peter and saw this as an opportunity for her to snatch Peter for herself. She proposes a friendly date. Peter accepts oblivious to Gwen’s intensions.
8. Peter and Gwen montage starts showing how they got “closer” and “closer” during their many dates and class room flirting.
9. Montage eventually ends as it shows Peter and Gwen in one date where they eventually seal things with a kiss.
10. That gets interrupted as a huge riot starts developing around them. Peter shuffles to find out what’s going. One man eventually points him towards a television which a news reporter is saying that a crazed criminal, Sandman, is looking for Spiderman.
11. Peter then tells Gwen that he has to go. Gwen asks why and Peter explains that he has to get over where Sandman is to take pictures – his job after all- but a cover so that he can change into Spiderman to fight Sandman.
12. Spidey confronts the Sandman. At first he is winning, cracking jokes like no other. Underestimating his enemy, Sandman picks up the pace and begins pummeling Spidey. The fight continues until dark. Unable to match Sandman’s powers, Peter is beaten like he’s never been beaten before.
13. Sandman gives one final punch and punches Peter in to a thick forest like area. Peter unable to take anymore beating, hides in the think foliage.
14. Sandman continues his pursuit. He gets frustrated and gives up his search eventually.
15. Exhausted from his battle, Peter passes out in the forest like area. That same night, there is a meteor shower. One of these meteorites lands a few feet away from a blacked out Spiderman. It cracks open and a black substance oozes out…
16. The ooze appears to be alive and notices the passed out Spiderman. It bonds with Spiderman.
17. The black ooze begins to take shape and picks up Peter. It swings away to take Spidey into his apt. Somehow, the ooze knows everything about Peter after bonding with him. The ooze drops Peter off in his bed and morphs in to his normal clothing.
18. Spidey wakes up in a shock the morning after. Still feeling horrible after his fight, he is surprised that he finds himself in his room. He rationalizes that he must have been so wiped out that he didn’t remember swinging back to his apartment. He also begins to hear voices but ignores it thinking that it is the result of his fight. He is still unaware of the livinig costume.
19. Spidey remembers that he took pictures of his fight with Sandman and brings it to the Bugle to get some cash. There he meets Eddie Brock who beats him to it and gives Jonah a doctored picture of Spidey causing the destruction instead of Sandman. Jonah loves it since he’s been looking for such a picture.
20. Peter is overly upset but controls himself. Brock is overly cocky and mocks Peter for being an amateur. He continues to kiss J. Jonah Jameson’s butt who eventually offers Brock a job. Robinson steps in saying that if he is going to offer a job, he should offer it to Peter. Jameson disagreed saying that Brock is what the paper needed all along since he managed to give him a picture that he’s been wanting all this time – Spiderman exposed for what he is… a criminal! Peter leaves vowing that he can prove that Brock is a fake.
21. Movie fades to Harry meeting with the Sandman. Sandman wants his money but Harry refuses asking for the body in return. Sandman is frustrated but leaves to find Spiderman.
22. Still rather upset with the picture Brock provided, Spiderman swings angrily across the city still unaware of his living costume. While swinging he notices that he feels stronger and more powerful. He keeps hearing voices too. He eventually passes a group of thugs preying on a couple. Spidey steps in taking down one bad guy after another. Here we see how agile Spiderman really is. One manages to shoot a bullet at Spiderman and hits him. The bullet gets absorbed by his living costume though and spits it out. Spiderman finally realizes that there is something unique about his costume and it begins to warp in to the black costume. Hearing voices… he is egged on to beat up the thug… after all, the thug tried to kill him like the burglar who killed his uncle. Angered by the thug, Peter lashes out and beats the man to a pulp. He stops himself at the last minute as he realizes his brutality. The police arrive and Spiderman flees. Strangely, Spidey felt no remorse. He is disturbed but enjoyed every minute of it. The voice in his head gets stronger and even congratulates him. Peter embraces this and forgets what just happened.
23. Overly confident and cocky, we see a transformation in Peter. He meets up with Gwen. He gives Brock’s picture to Gwen and asks her if he could give it to Captain Stacy (her dad) to check it for anomalies. They go on a date but he gets short with her a few times (rude too) for no reason. He exhibits the same behavior towards everyone else around him. This terrified Gwen and so she asks Peter to end their date early because she doesn’t quite like this “new” Peter. She said that she will contact Peter later and give his picture to her dad. Peter shrugs it off and goes to his Aunt May. He too was rude to Aunt May. Aunt may doesn’t take bull though… and scolds him. Aunt May recommends to Peter to search himself why he is so angry. This triggered Peter that something is wrong outside his control. He doesn't quite know still so he leaves. He goes back to his apartment and sees that he has mail. He opens it up. Inside is proof that Brock’s picture is a fake.
24. Peter then rushes to the Bugle and shows Jameson. JJ is so angry that he fires Brock on the spot. He promises Brock that he will never get a in the city ever again. Brock gets furious but Peter just stands in the corner smirking. Jonah offers the job to Peter.
25. Suddenly, the world is perfect again. Spidey is swinging around town and suddenly, he begins to lose control of himself and the voice in his head is getting stronger and stronger. During all this, Sandman catches a glimpse of Spidey and pursues him. Spidey unaware of his pursuer stops and perches on a ledge. There he ponders and make a decision to test his costume. He rips off a piece and goes to Dr. Curt Conners for help at Empire State University.
26. Conner is shocked to find Spiderman looking for him. Reluctant to help, Spidey convinces Conner to hear him out saying that Peter referred him. It is during this meeting with Conners that Spidey realizes that the costume is alive and dangerous. But before Spidey could do anything about it, Sandman bursts in the class room.
27. Connors is knocked unconscious. Sandman and Spidey begin to fight. This time around, Spidey’s powers are bolstered by the living costume and notices that the Sandman is not as powerful as he used to be. Spidey gets savage and beats Sandman very badly. Ultimately, Spiderman forces Sandman to tell him why he keeps attacking him. Sandman reveals that Harry sent him. Spidey then punches Sandman to a fountain nearby. Exhausted and defeated, Sandman couldn’t pull himself together and dissolves in the fountain.
28. Spidey revives Conners who is shocked by the destruction. He urges Spidey that he’ll be fine and he will take care of the police. In the meantime, he asks Spidey to take off the costume right away.
29. Instead, Spidey goes after Harry. When Spidey arrived at Harry’s mansion, Harry is dressed in the Goblin suit (revamped to resemble his father’s original but looks more like the comic book version). Spidey tries to plead with Harry for the last time that he didn’t kill Norman. Harry gets angry and fights Spidey. Harry puts up an amazing fight but Spidey eventually gets the upper hand. Because of Spidey’s anger and strength amplified by the living costume, he easily beats Harry to a bloody mess. As a last resort to kill Spidey, Harry throws a pumpkin bomb. Spidey dodges but his living costume responds by catching the bomb and flicking it back towards Harry. It lands on a shelf full of bombs next to Harry which ignited into a huge explosion. Spiderman get blown out. Spidey recovers and notices that everything is in ruins. He finds Harry under a pile of ruble. He picks up Harry and rushes him to a hospital. Meanwhile, the voice in his head is telling him to let Harry die. It tells Peter that it is the right thing to do. Harry has been a pain anyway. Peter waits in the hospital struggling with the voices until a doctor tells him that Harry is dead.
30. Peter swings away and stumbles on top of a church. Peter blames himself for Harry’s death. He then begins to hear voices telling him that what he did was the right thing to do. “Don’t worry about it,” it says. It then asks Peter to hunt down and kill more men of sin. Disturbed by the voices, Peter finally realizes that he must remove the costume now. He goes inside and tries to remove the costume but it refuses. As he struggles, he hits the bell by accident and realizes that high pitch noise disrupts the living costume. He continues to ring the bell. Eventually, the living costume oozes off. In the church, we find Eddie Brock pleading to God for help… even asking to punish Peter for his sins against him. While kneeling, we see the ooze moving towards Eddie attracted to Eddie’s anger especially about his anger for Peter. The ooze violently bonds with Eddie. Camera fades to black and we see a silhouette of Venom.
31. New scene cuts in and we see Spidey with friends (Gwen, MJ, Aunt May, etc.) in a funeral for Harry. Peter says his final goodbyes to Harry and walks away.
32. We then see a familiar figure walking towards the grave. The man says, “Oh Harry, you have always been a weak boy.” He continues his rant saying that even at his death, he is disappointed. The camera then moves to reveal Norman Osborn alive and well, bragging that he will kill Spiderman where Harry failed.
MOVIE ENDS – Isn't this a perfect sets up for Spiderman 4? – Venom being lead bad guy and Norman working in the shadows just like in the comics. Gwen is now Peter’s GF setting up for her death in the fourth movie which Norman will recreate the bridge scene where Gwen falls to her death (to somewhat correct the mistake of the first Spiderman movie). Here we will see that Gwen and MJ are actually good friends not estranged like the movie portrayed. And to keep things somewhat accurate, Peter gets back with MJ after the death of Gwen.
What do you think?

For some reason...
Sorry for the three post of the same story. I don't know how it happened. My apologies.

Spiderman 3 - let down!
I'm a huge Spiderman fan and been one since 10. I'm surprised that other fans are happy with this crap by Sony. I hope the reason Marvel was unable to protest the script was because their contract gives them limited control. If Marvel did have a choice... shame. How could you let my comic book here be in that movie!
It may have made money... but far from being proof that it told a good story. I hope the 4th movie will be closer to the comic book. Hollywood.... quit destroying already great stories by rethinking them! Marvel did it right the first time.... don't contradict the masters.

Spiderman 3 wasn't accurate
I keep seeing that people who didn't like the movie felt that it wasn't accurate. They don't really have to be. They are a separate continuity just like the ultimate books which aren't completely true to the originals. These movies are BASED on the comics not just adaptions. Movies have budgets and time constraints which keep them from being faithful to years upon years of story.

Uhmmm...
that movie blew, not only from a "factual" point of view, but also as far as cinematic experiences go. It was especially awful for a movie with a 300 million dollar budget. The plot was thin, to much was going on at once and youcould really tell the story was forced.
The CGI was a complete letdown, i haven't seen cinematic graphics as bad for it's time, since Flash Gordon.
Sanmdna was casted superbly, other than that... not so much.
It would have been much better had they pursued a seperate movie/ story arch for each villain i mean Venom especially was a last minute addition to that movie.
The thing which bothered me the most was how true to the comics the movie was, that was to say not at all.
the other two, although not "accurate" per say did try to do justice to the comics, and at least got the main ideas correct.
However Spider-Man 3 more or less tossed the entire series out. Sam Raimei more or less pulled a "Ha-Ha Stan Lee, i'm stealing your characters, and making my own story!
Overall it was a weak movie.

Yeah... it needs to be accurate!
Since it's based on a well established comic (assuming the original version and not the Ultimate version since the popularity and longevity of Spiderman is due to the original tales)... it should be accurate to the comic.
Real fans want to see Spiderman close to the original version because they have expectations that the movie is based on the popular comic... not a rip-off. Saying that it shouldn't be accurate is just plain wrong. Why not change Peter Parker's name to something else. I mean, why even call it Spiderman if it doesn't need to be accurate? Call it The Eight Legged Man! The whole thing about "accuracy doesn't matter" is just a weak argument.
As for budget constraints... if they were able to make a movie with their own version of Spidey's tale, they could have invested the same money to make a movie that is closer to the original tale. There shouldn't be a difference to the level of work, money and time needed to make one version over the other... all they needed to do was remain close to the original story. So the whole "budget constraint thing"... another weak argument.
The truth is, somewhere during SP3's production... everyone forgot that the reason Spiderman is a success in the first place is because the comic was well created. Hollywood felt that they needed to revamp something that needs no revision... so they hired some big shot writer who barely knows Spidey's tale to rewrite an all ready established good story. And as an added disservice... probably did not consult Marvel (it’s hard to believe that Marvel let that happen – Spiderman being their flagship character – must have been out of their control due to contact between them and Sony). Additionally, it is also a probable effort by Hollywood to tweak Spidey to appeal to a broader audience... sacrificing story to attract a bigger audience. What Hollywood needs to realize is that people come to movies for good stories which Spiderman already is. All they need to do is make a movie accurate to the comic and people will come.
I hate to say this but the SP movie franchise is dangerously close to the same path as the original Batman and Superman movies. The first 2 were pretty good… but turned to horrid by the 3rd. I just hope that they recover for the 4th SP movie and not get blinded by the profit they received from SP3. After all, good movies are not necessarily the ones that make the most buck.

best movie
dudes some things they just cant fit in to movies cause they go from subject to subject to rapidly like in the new york times comics they gave spiderman was constantly on another villian an they wouldtnt be able to pay all these different villians/ actors plus it would b hard to follow.

best spidey movie
i don't understand how someone could like the other spidey movies and not this one. it was definetly better then the second one, no contest, and the first may only be considered better simply for being the first and having all the origin stuff in it.
none of the movies are exactly comic book accurate. and you shouldn't expect them to be. its a friggin movie! it was based on the same ideas and wasn't too far off anyway. and lets face it, most people watching this movie haven't been reading spiderman comics for years like alot of people here. they don't care one way or another how accurate it is.
the only thing really worth complaining about, although it doesn't ruin the movie, is not enough venom. i would have liked to see him only in the end and leave him hanging for spiderman 4. that way he could have a whole movie to build up next time and not just the last 20 minutes. that way he could do the whole stalker thing from the beginning like in the comics. but whatever, he still looked cool. a "we are venom" just once really would have made my night perfect but i'm not gonna cry about it.
overall it was a fun and entertaining movie and satisfied my spidey craving thats been growing for the last 3 years. tobie isn't going to win any awards for trying to cry but even if he was a good actor it wouldn't matter much.
so like i said before, i don't get how someone could like the first 2 spiderman movies and not this one. its like being a fan of the first star wars movie and empire strikes back but not liking return of the jedi.

"Real fans" aren't the ones filling up theaters natuionwide. Mainstream Americans don't read comics. They think they're childish. I love comics and faithfully pick up my stack every month, but if you're going to make a movie that sells tickets, you have to make a movie that appeals to mainstream America. So, a lot of the ideas in the original comics are going to be dropped in Hollywood scripts. That's just a sad fact of life. If you are looking for accuracy, you're going to be dissappointed by most Marvel and DC films.
Posted by tameshia on 2007-05-10 13:35:27
Mainstreaming = bad movie always.
"Real Fans" were once mainstream folks that got hooked to a specialized interest. In this case, Spiderman. It was the real fans who flocked to the first SP movie... it was them who told mainstream America that Spiderman was cool. They started this domino effect. So Spiderman's story doesn't need to be changed to mainstream since Spiderman's not so mainstream origins managed to attract a legion of followers anyway.
Nevertheless, good stories proven by the test of time as being good stories will sell movies. Mainstreaming something doesn't because in the effort to please every person... what made it "great" in the first place will often get sacrficed. Quality over quantity I guess. Spiderman is unique... making him mainstream just removes what makes his character and story special.
I think it's also a misconception that original stories need to be made "mainstream" just so a wider audience would like. Didn't these original stories become popular because of what they are in the first place... unique and specialized? Hollywood should just tell the stories as they are... when they try to make it mainstream... it goes horribly wrong.
And that's exactly what happened or is happening to the Spiderman movie franchise. Instead of focusing on the story... Hollywood wanted to make money by making it mainstream. The result is a highly prifitable movie... but will remain in history as as a bad movie.

Another issue I have with the movie is how long has Eddie Brock been employed at the Daily Bugle? I mean they make Spidey 3 out to show he's just started and make reference to Parker being there for years......yet was there not a situation in Spidey 1 in which Jameson asks about a story and someone repsonds, "We have Brock on it" or something to that nature? If so, that shows that Raimi didn't do his homework. If I'm wrong then I apologize and stand corrected. BTW, Venom vs Carnage FTW!!!

I agree
I totally agree that comic book movies should be accurate. As a fan, I would absolutely love that. But here's my point: as a high school teacher, I've got a bunch of student who have seen Spiderman 3 and they love it. Know why? Because they haven't read a comic book in their lives, and they don't care whether Gwen Stacy was introduced before MJ originally or not. As a matter of fact, their knowledge of the character is based mostly on the Spiderman Animated Series from the 90's. Hollywood does not feel that comic boks are real literature so you will not get a faithful adaption unless its something like LOTR that is accepted by the mainstream. Let's hope the new Marvel Studio does better with their characters.
Posted by tameshia on 2007-05-11 13:29:57
It just doesn't make sense.
Even the animated Spiderman tv shows were based on the comic... quite accurate to the oringal comic stories actually. Atleast the origins of each character were accurate and it was "understood" that the other stories that don't quite fit the original time line were simply "untold" adventures of Spiderman... which is fine.
In the case of the Spiderman movies... it has always been understood or expected that it would be a telling of Spiderman's story as accurate as possible to the comic. But more importantly... it told the stories in a very crappy way. The animated version atleast was well thought of as far as plot and execution.
But I agree with you that some Hollywood/film companies do not seem to care much about original ideas... which is why I think people should not support that kind of attitude... not support movies that do not respect the original ideas that made stories like Spiderman's sucessful, popular and memorable.
Lastly, if the audience doesn't care about accuracy... then why make it mainstream? As far as we know... they would have loved the original better. Actually, I bet they WOULD have loved it better if SP3 was more accurate and its plot was better thought of and executed.

accuracy2
YOu make a good point. The mainstream audience would be knocked on their collective backsides if comic book movies were true to the comics. Imagine a Daredevil movie with the Hand and Bullseye in his original suit and all that. But just look at how many people love X3 (and believe me there are a lot of them) Mainstream America doesn't care about the continuity we grew up with. They just don't. To them it's juvenile and irrelevant. That's why the X-men wear Matrix outfits. I watched Ebert and Roper last weekend. One of the reviewers talked about how he couldn't uinderstand why sometimes the Sandman was soft sand and at other times his fist was as hard as a brick. To us, that's basic Marvel 101. But to him, it was a childish plot contrivance. I think the major problem is that Hollywood studios don't respect the material they are adapting.

Woah!
man, i've been reading all these different opinions on how sm3 stunk, or how it rocked, or whatever. jeez. i'm thinking twice on whether or not if i should go see it. but despite all of the stuff everyone has said, i believe that sm3 should have gone along with the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. i don't like the crap how a meteroite just landed next to peter and all of a sudden, Venom was there. thats a total load, people! in ultimate spider-man, it was way more interesting how the suit was made origanlly to cure cancer (made by peter and eddies fathers), but when peter went to touch it, the suit took over him. then causing him to "feel" good, but the suit was really eating him alive, slowly. THEN causing him to "feed" on others. that meteor stuff is a load of CRAP!! Carnage should have been in the movie too tho.
