Spying on the Red Carpet
2007-05-01 12:05:27
I'm sure you've seen Marvel.com's official Spider-Man 3 red carpet photos, but I was there too!

Along with Marvel.com's Virginia Melendez and Jason Harvey and the super-terrific host Alison Becker, I was excited to get in on some of the red carpet fun, take some photos and help out where I was needed. We got there a little before the scheduled gathering for press at 4:30. With celebrities set to arrive at 6 and the movie to start around 8, it was going to be a long, fun night.

Unfortunately, red carpet security instituted a hard and fast "3 people per crew" rule. Taking one for the team, I stepped back and took a spot with all the fans. Looking around, I found that I wasn't the only one who came with a big crew then got rebuffed and sent off to the sidelines. I saw guys from Sci-Fi channel and other TV stations moping about. Oh well. I still had fun.

I talked to some very excited Spider-Man fans, young and old. I took plenty of photos and saw the madness of a red carpet premiere up sorta close.

Check out the photos below, some taken by me with my cell phone and digital cameras, some by Virginia on the red carpet and some by Jason with the fancy-shmancy video camera.

I did see Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada on his way into the movie, though I couldn't stop him for long--he like many of the other attendees not on the red carpet were looking for their way in.

Fact: it was actually a black carpet. I feel cheated. I was led to believe it was red and then they changed it.

The Port Chester High School Marching Band performed the Spider-Man theme before the celebrities arrived. They were fantastic. And when they were done with another performance on the black carpet, little explosions of confetti were triggered. It gave the event a real sense of fun and excitement.

In addition to the cast and crew members who made it to the premiere, there were a number of other celebrities. My favorite was easily Bill Paxton who came with his dad. They walked and talked the carpet together and they seemed to have a blast.

Funny tidbit: There was a rumor going around that Will Smith was supposed to parachute in (or land on the roof of the theater via helicopter). Seriously. One of the displaced TV guys in the crowd next to me hinted at it, a mother standing next to me said the manager of the theater told her the same thing and one of the limo drivers driving past the crowd said, "keep your eyes on the sky." I have no idea why the Fresh Prince would have made such an ornate entrance, but it would have been AWESOME! He rocks. Maybe next time, Big Willie.

And no, none of us got to see the movie. That's alright. we're seeing it Wednesday. Am I excited? You better believe it!

Keep your eyes peeled to Marvel.com for plenty of videos from the Spider-Man 3 premiere and maybe some more blogs from Agent M, your Spy in the House of Ideas.

Cheers.
Spider Diddy...

This must have been great to see such an extravagant premiere, like this one. Just being a fan on the West Coast, and eagerly anticipating just a lil more longer. Plus excellent article.
Can't wait anymore!
