First Blog ever!

I know, I know, considering how much I tend to be on the net preaching the Marvel gospel (heck, I’ve been called the iEIC by some), you would think that at some point I would’ve gotten around to this whole blogging thing. To be honest, I’ve avoided it because of the amount of time I feared it would eat out of my day. But, as life would have it, the whole blogging thing has finally caught up to me and here we are, so…

Welcome to a Cup of Blog!

Now, let me preface this by mentioning that I just won’t have the amount of time that certain Marvel Editors seem to have to devote to a daily entry. Hmmm, makes me wonder where these guys are finding the time: note to self, check on the Brevoort clone. So, I’ll do my best to keep you wonderful folk as much on the inside track as possible of all things Marvel, but it may be slow going at first.

So, where do we begin? Well, next week is a big week for us! A gaggle of Marvel writers will be flying into New York and converging for another of our, now legendary, Creator Summits. This is my favorite time of the year by far, because, not only is it uncharted territory (you never know what great idea may spring to life), but it’s just a fun week to catch up with the gang. Look for updates from the summit right here on Cup of Blog. Sure, I’m sure, you’ll be able to get some insider info on Chip Lowe’s Blog or the T-voorts incessant ramblings, but eventually you’ll all come to your senses and realize that this will be the only place to hang out. Don’t accept cheap imitations. Besides, if you ever met Chip Lowe, you would know that he’s merely thirteen years of age.

Okay, so what’s a blog if I can’t do some shilling. I recently received an electronic reading copy of IDW’s C.S.I. comic entitled, “Dying in the Gutters.” Not only is it chock full of guest appearances by some of comic’s greatest creators, it also features an incredibly handsome appearance by yours truly. Surely an issue not to be missed, make sure your retailer saves you a copy.

Okay, now excuse me for a sec. Ahem, testing, one, two three, is this thing on?

ETERNALS BY NEIL GAIMAN AND JOHN ROMITA, JR.

On sale Today!

I said ETERNALS BY NEIL GAIMAN AND JOHN ROMITA, JR. On sale Today!!!!!

Not only will this series cement the Eternals permanently into the fabric of the Marvel U, but it’s set in current continuity and I mean current. Can anyone say Civil War?!?!?

This is a series not to be missed by anyone! Neil and Johnny give a Master’s class in the art of comicbook storytelling.

On a final note, how ‘bout them Mets! So far this has turned out to be a fun summer for us Met fans in the Marvel offices. I somehow finagled partial season tickets, so, me and several members of the crew have found ourselves cheering on the boys in orange and blue at quite a few games this season. Heck, even lil’ Chip Lowe has joined us on a few outings. His favorite is Dynamet Dash Day in which kids twelve years and under get to run the bases after the game. I know, I know, he’s thirteen but he could pass for ten. So, if you’re ever at the game, come on over to Field Level Section 226 and say hello, we might just be there!

Lets Go Mets!

Oh, and one more thing before I leave you. Come back tomorrow, yes I said tomorrow, for a Cup of Blog contest not to be missed, especially if you’re an artist!

See ya in the funnybooks,
JQ
EEK!

Yee haw
Yay another blog! Lol. Its going to get hard keeping up with all of you, but a lot of fun as well! (You did great with your first post btw.) And yes I have to go and get my hands on a copy, the art is just too spectacular and I must have one in my hands. *Takes out wallet and starts counting pennies* ........er after I get my pay check. ^_^

Meh
I still don't see what's good about JRJR's art. I don't get it, there are so many better artists than him. Can't believe he still has a job here.

cool
another blog come on

Dido Meh
Bearpod91 is so right on about JRJR. He's not the guy for this Neil Gaiman series. JRJR was pretty good when he was doing the first X-men but now, forget it. Gotta love his daddy though.

Love JRJR's art
I think that JRJR is one of the best artists around at the moment and I am really looking forward to seeing his work on Eternals. When I saw the first pages of this work at the New York Con this year I was blown away and everything I have seen since has confirmed my view. It even has a Kirbyesque quality to it.

Joe any chance Marvel can improve how they send out subscriptions? Really hated in the past where the books would be manhandled by the mail man. I'd consider subscribing if the issue is resolved.

So, are we going to get more podcasts?
Creator Summit equals more Marvel podcast goodness I hope! Say it IS so Joe! :)

Huzzah!
This is great! A truly important figurehead interacting with the fans! Really, this is why I love Marvel; they seem to get how human beings work!

Book of the week...
I just read Eternals #1 and all I can say is WOW!!! I never knew too much about the Eternals, but the story hooks you from the beginning. And you have to love John Romita Jr.'s art. I first noticed it on his Amazing Spider-Man run. Its different and unique. I can't wait for his Kick-Ass series with Mark Millar.

Welcome to the Blogosphere!
You're quite right, Joe, blogging is an absolute time-sucker. That said, I suspect you've gotten much better at time management as the years have passed and you've accrued more and more real-life responsibilities. So don't go crazy, post when you can, and have fun! Good to see you here on the blogosphere!

Hello Joe, what do you know?
JRJR is a fine artist, I may not be his number one fan, but I respect his work and it never mucks with story at all. Art should always enrich the story and never detract and I think JRJR goes above and beyond that for me. Bachalo is another story, sometimes I can't make heads or tails of what he is illustrating, his recent work has been much better, which makes me thinks he's only confusing when he's rushed or something.

Aside from that, good to hear from you Joe.

Cup-O-Ruin!
Joe if you read this get JMS off Spidey.

Return Spidey to his classic costume and the unmasking, it sucks and you let it happen.

I'm losing faith in you.

Joe does Marvel own the characters that were used in the Marvel UK titles years ago? Are there any characters from the UK line that you liked?

Posted by mre2u on 2006-06-22 23:27:25
Yeah yeah yeah
I read the same CSI book as you did Joe. And it looks like I took a bullet for you!

I love MJ and Peter Parker.
I have had to pleasure of meeting you Joe and getting a Spider Man poster signed for my kids room. I am not as hard core in comics as most and my opinion may not carry much sway but I going to add my 2 cents.

I love the MJ and Peter Parker being married. I think it's cool that with all the hell that guy goes through he has a super model to make up for it.

Don't make MJ and Peter get a divorce!!! I beg of you. That's all.

I still a fan but that would ruin my Spidey reading. Good day.

Captain Block from Baltimore.

Thank you, JQ
Joe Quesada,

Let me first say that I cannot wait to see what you and the rest of Marvel come up with at Creator Summits. In my opinion, Marvel has done some of its best work in the past few years. You have done so many things that have changed the fabric of the Marvel Universe forever. There were responses to Avengers Disassembled series that varied from grunts of disgust to squeals of joy. I loved that you gave the team the oppurtunity to basically start over, as well as produce some jarring deaths that, to me, seemed essential to keep the characters growing. Even so, I could not help but be depressed at the end of Thor, because what I saw in his last few years were some of the best pieces of writing I have ever read (I saw his hammer in FF, and I’m not even going to ask if he’ll ever return. I want to, but I won’t.) Disassembled seemed like the start of a whole new age of comics.

Like almost every other Marvelite, I absolutely adore Civil War, in which a fan and their favorite character can be on totally different sides. While the series is highly praised by most, the majority seems to dislike Peter Parker unveiling his identity, a secret that was almost 50 years old. But I think, like Disassembled, it was a move that had to be made. For one thing, it balanced out the two sides of the Superhuman Registration Act. Leaders of the opposition were favorites such as Captain America and Wolverine, while those for it were the less-likable but still very interesting characters Iron Man, Yellowjacket and Mr. Fantastic. Adding our friendly neighborhood Spider-man to their ranks made readers seriously consider that the Act might be a good idea after all. Also, I’m dying to learn if Joe Robertson and Ben Urich at the Bugle knew the truth all along.

In a couple of years, my plan is to attend college in New York City (probably Columbia) and someday get a job as a writer for Marvel. I love the art of story-telling, and comics is the only never-ending story. I am attending the New York Comic Con in February and I hope to see you there. You have taken risks that no one else was willing to take, and with the wonderful staff at Marvel, made them pay off. When Spider-man, an untouchable in comics. took off his mask, you changed his life forever, and I have the feeling that Marvel comics will only be getting better as time goes on. I just want to thank you, Joe Quesada, for all you have done for comics.
