The Doctor is out!
2007-07-23 10:09:44
Hey, gang!

I'm on vacation, so you won't be hearing much from me in the coming days. If there's anything to report from the sunny south, I'll make sure to let you all know.

In the meantime, enjoy this low res scan of Danny Miki's inks of the finished Wolverine: Origins cover. Believe me, this scan doesn't do the original justice.

I'm also including a blurry pic taken with my phone of lovely downtown Charlotte, well, at least the side you could see from my hotel room window. Heroe's Con was an absolute blast, the fans were amazing!

See ya in the funnybooks,

Beautiful
The cover is pretty darn cool. It's original and vaguely reminiscent of the days before covers became iconic-shots-only of single characters. I would love to see the original artwork for that.
And enjoy yourself! You work hard and manage to still interact with fans. I agree with TwilghtDragon: you do deserve it.

Great series
I really enjoyed this "Cover from Hell" series. I haven't done a lot of illustration since I was a kid, but I'm a web designer for my day job (and an actor for the love of it and the dream of one day...) and this kind of series shows me, more than anything, that it is crucial to the creative process to have a drawn-out conceptual phase. I constantly have business folks poking at me, wondering "what is taking so long?" They don't get that 1) initial concepts often aren't the most workable as final versions and that 2) all of those un-used concepts still hold value in shaking out the final version AND as reference and resources for future work. It's difficult for suits to place value on anything that can't be put to press, and they're loathe to pay for my time spent creating those discarded concepts. Anyway, for me this series was a validation that even the best of the best go through significant conceptual iteration. Maybe I'll use this as an example during future confrontations ... ;-)
Enjoy the vacation. And then get the heck back to work.
