It's been a while!
2006-07-20 13:52:30
Hey, gang, sorry for the whole missing in action thing. It's just that we're in the throws of convention season and it won't let up until we're through these next two cons.

Right at this point my head's ready to explode and I have another Wolverine cover staring me straight in the face. The sketch for this one didn't turn out to be nearly as time consuming as the last, but I just don't have time to scan it for you now. Perhaps next week I'll have more time and we'll go thro the process one more time.

See ya in the funnybooks (or San Diego!)

Got a question Joe
Bendis two Avengers books? what the heck is up with that?

I can't say I support this decision, I'm not much a fan of Brian's and I think his New Avengers was a exercise in tedium. Why are you allowing this to happen, yeah New Avengers sales well, but any book with Wolverine,Spidey,Cap,Ironman and Shitzo-Superman is gonna sale well since it's got the most popular heroes and cult favorites. Chuck Austen could have wrote this version of Avengers with a decent artist and it would've been a hit.

So instead of one Avengers book that has 5 issues of either splash pages of everyone except the Avengers and some outside hero saves the day (Dr.Strange/Emma Frost) or talking heads with sleep inducing plots and villians (Ninjas ooh wow!) or 15 issues before the whole roster is even complete.

Thanks Joe, now we can enjoy two books of 6 issue arcs each and a bunch of superheroes sitting around talking about "ooh ain't we so self aware." with a healthy heaping of "Oiy Veys and various hebrew cliched sayings." and the new secret character who shows up on the cover, but not the interiors for 6 or more whole issues only to dissappear until 20 issues later.

So Joe why couldn't Dan Slott, Robert Kirkman or hell Brubaker get this assignment?

After cancelling Dan's Thing the least you could do is give the Mighty Avenger book to the one guy in your group of talent who actually seems to know continuity and has that ol'Marvel spirit and isn't ashamed of good old pure superheroics while being revelant.

Oh Yeah!
I'm still diggin Civil War!

But can the readership have a break from these 'Events' please!!??

I beg you.

It's like Marvel has 'Event-terets syndrome'

Enjoy and Take Care!
Like HotRob said, I hope you have a lot of fun and its great that your creative juices are flowing and it wasn't as painful to do the new sketch as the other one. (Which I still think was amazingly great. ^__^)

San Diego
All the hotels rooms are booked up! I live about 3 hours away and couldn't believe how big the comic book convention is! Very amazing! I'll have to try to go next year or just go over for the day! Best of luck and looking forward to seeing all the news that comes out of this convention!!!

New Joe Fridays
Hey Joe (humming Hendrix)
Just read your recent New Joe Friday - man, that metabaron guy gave you a bashin'! But i just wanted to let you know that i'm very glad you're EIC at Marvel - this season has just turned out to be possibly one of the best times to be a Marvel reader ever. There isn't one title, storyline, or idea on the horizon that isn't top-notch, as is evident by the ever-growing list of creators at Marvel are truly making names for themselves and becoming All-Stars. I'm currently into both Civil War and Annihilation, as well as Eternals, AND Agents of Atlas, NOT to mention my 6 regular titles, AS WELL as my girlfriend's own pull-list, and we're both so excited every week to pick up our stuff as we know we'll never disappointed. Combine that with the great range of TPB, Premier HC's and ESSENTIAL collections out, and it has to be said again:
It's an awesome time to be a Marvel reader.

Keep up the good work, Joe, and here's to you hopefully staying in office for a good long time to come.

Til then,
Make Mine Marvel!
