Main Gate
Agent marvellad reporting...
the key word I found was "Entering the main gate" which led me here http://www.comicbloc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=363&Itemid=92 which told me to check the news and I found this interesting article http://www.comicbloc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=369&Itemid=56

“The Gorilla is showing you the way!”
Posted by marvellad on 2006-06-21 12:07:47
'The Gorilla is showing you the way" is the key i mean.
Posted by marvellad on 2006-06-21 12:15:38
"..the way" is a hint to the key?
So...from the link to the fish...to the news...to the article "The gorilla is showing you the way"
Plus, Yesterday on the Marvel.com Blog we were informed that if you have to choose between an image with a gorilla and an image without...always go with gorilla.
So, I think there is still a key out there behind a gorilla picture!

No key words have been found.

Possible keywords...
If "the Gorilla points the way", maybe we should pay close attention to what Gorilla Man says. A lot is made about the Kentucky Derby. Maybe the key word is Citation or Tim Tam? Then again, they use the phrase non-sequiter again. Hmm...

Local comic shop
I went to pick up my books and spoke the phrase. They responded:
MASTER PLAN

where it says “The Gorilla is showing you the way!” which leads me back to todays segment, where Gorilla man says "Heck, I'm just gonna put everything on Tim Tam,"
so I am going to say that the Key words are "Tim Tam"

O.K. gang, here is what I got from this...
Sure the link "Main Gate" gets you to the Red Herring, which gets you to the News which gets you to the article about the comic shops.
2 things of note:
1) Brian Hibbs shop is in Divisadero. The same street the Ed was on in the story.
2) Mousing over the two pictures give you two more clues:
Comic Experience pic: "Go to the place where the news of the book first broke"
Calum Johnston's pic: "Learn more About that site and it's History to find the answer you seek"
Someone find where the news first broke, go to the 'about this site' page and look for a pic of a gorilla to click on!

Thank you wise Mr Lao.
I went to Dewey's Comic City in Madison, NJ. They are awesome!

Dead-ended?
News of Agents of Atlas first broke in Wizard magazine 176. the April issue, although the Wizard website doesn't have an 'ABOUT' page. My investigations continued to the online source of news about the book. The official first announcement was made on may 5th in Newsarama. Newsarama DOES have an About/History page although no obvious correllations were to be found.
further investigation by Agent Doop uncovered a suspicious fact. Both retailer sin the article (Brian Hibbs and Calum Johnston) are members of the clandestine comic shop retailers association called the CBIA. Could the organisation be using the CBIA as a store front to pass out secret intel to individual retailers? The initials follow the subtle 4-letter acronyms ACLU and RCMP to be found in the article.
Going back to the Newsarama page I discovered a coincidence! Newsarama used to be called "CBI Newsarama" at one point in its History. This agent doesn't believe in coincidences. Agemt Doop will investigate further into the mystery of the keyword CBIA

As I said, you can find the key word from the comfort of your own work space. That does not require having a physical magazine about, though your knowledge of how the news has been gradually revealed is impressive, Doop.
KRB NRG has found relevant information by taking nothing for granted. Now who will reach the key?
Posted by mr. lao on 2006-06-21 17:33:23
VENUS
Venus is the code word. At the bottom of the About page on NEWSARAMA is a phrase written in a foreign language. Googling the phrase reveals that the language is Greek. Using Altavista's Babel Fish translator reveal that the phrase, Δευτεροσ απο τον ηλιο. Το ονομα τησ σ'αυτην τη γλωσσα. roughly translates to "second from the sun." Venus is the second planet form the sun.
Posted by sferre on 2006-06-21 18:16:00
Aphodite
the keyword is aphrodite
the messag eis 'second from the sun, her name in that language
Posted by doop1958 on 2006-06-21 19:01:11
i should note
I am actually Greek, and I grew up o the island of Venus/Aphrodite: Milos!
I would have kicked myself in the rear if I had missed this, having gone all the way to the spring. I didn't think to highlight that page.

Excellent work, Doop. You have advanced in our hierarchy. Does anyone now see what the Gorilla was telling you to look for?
Posted by mr. lao on 2006-06-21 19:26:19
the Kentucky Derby 1958
the date this story takes place is 2nd of May, 1958. Gorilla Man is betting on Tim Tam, the horse that is going to win the Great Kentucky Derby of 1958, which took place on 05/03/1958. Gorilla Man mentions the derby is 'tomorrow'
Is this info essential to our investigations?
Posted by doop1958 on 2006-06-21 19:44:59
non-sequiter
the phrase 'non-sequiter' is also used to describe the paragraph where Gorilla-man gives this info. the phrase non-sequiter was used by Mr.Lao in his recent CBR Forums post. The trail will loop back as it progresses...
Posted by doop1958 on 2006-06-21 19:47:39
the Venus of Cheronea
my research into the Gorilla's intentions go deeper. 1958 saw the release of the italian movie La Venere di Cheronea = The Venus of Cheronea. What does Agent Venus think of her movie counterpart, Belinda Lee?
Posted by doop1958 on 2006-06-21 20:07:32
Tim ... Tam?
The Gorilla Is Showing You The Way!
...
Well, there's Tim Tam.
But what about THE WINDOW? or THE DOOR? as in his attitude to those racist agents.
or maybe STYME THE SOVIETS or WORLD PEACE?
Posted by dp_lombardo on 2006-06-21 21:58:04
The Window
Yup, i gotta say The Window is the answer - it's the only thing he really SHOWED anyone
Posted by dp_lombardo on 2006-06-21 21:59:57
Doop1958
Though i feel Doop1958 is on the money when in his post 'no-sequiter', very good observation.

Further Analysis...
KRB NRG again...
What the Gorilla is trying to tell us is this:
"...It's all Greek to me. I just put it up on my wall and called it modern art."
Catch the Greek reference? He's telling us to look for a piece of art. Artwork of Venus, no doubt. Unfortunately, I cannot spend the time to find it right now, so I am calling on you other agents to go out there and GET THAT ARTWORK FOR US!
By the by... Initials are very important. Mine for example hide a subtle message...
I wonder if Mr. Lao's initials might also be Y.C. in some circles?
Posted by KRB NRG on 2006-06-22 08:35:54
Still further analysis...
Upon reflection and re-reading Mr. Lao's original request...
The first of the key words he asked someone to post would be:
"Modern Art".
However I still think there is some artwork of Venus out there that we need to be looking for...
Mr. Lao, does this meet with your expectations?

Posted by KRB NRG on 2006-06-22 09:08:02
hm...
maybe we're forgetting something: MASTER PLAN was the comic book store password. maybe that combined with our guesses here might lead to something...?

Expectations Met
This week's keys are accounted for- MASTER PLAN and APHRODITE. Ken Hale's clues to the Aphrodite key were "Look into that blue" and "all Greek to me." As you've learned, thorough examination of trails will often lead you to the end even without connecting all the clues, especially with such excellent teamwork. Of course, the true end of this trail is a long way off indeed!
By the end of our training, no force on Earth will be able to oppose us.

Just a thought
hello, nosybrat reporting, I didn't see this mentioned, but after the
"It's all greek to me reference" Gorilla Man looks up to see an
aircraft carrier in for repairs. It may be a rabbit trail, but sometimes rabbit trails lead to rabbit holes.Oh and KRB NRG(Kirby Energy?), I appreciate your point about YC, what was the last we heard of our old friend?
