Why don't I remember any good The Vision stories? Do they exist? Maybe I'll get Jordan to explain The Vision to me.
I finished reading Paul Tobin's plots for his BRAND NEW BOOK yesterday, and sent him seven notes (I think it was seven). It's gonna be REALLY good. I'm talking Giffen-JM-first-Justice-League arc/Grant-Morrison-first-JLA-arc good.
I'm gonna go look at Ig Guara's PET AVENGERS #1 cover again...(maybe I'll show you tomorrow)
The Vision A fan's reaction to the Vision might depend on how much he likes SF, because the classic Vision, aka Vision I, was basically an SF character in a superhero comics series. The best stories by far are those that centered on his relationship with Wanda, because they had fantasy/superhero plots along with exploration of the differences between the Vision and a normal human. The differences could be blatant or subtle, depending on what the writer wanted to do.
The best stories are Englehart's: AVENGERS #137-#144, #147-#149 (#141-#144, #147-#149 reprinted as the "Serpent Crown" TPB); the VISION & SCARLET WITCH maxiseries, with the WCA ANNUAL #1 epilogue; WEST COAST AVENGERS #34-first half of WCA #39, plus WCA ANNUAL #3; and the AVENGERS: CELESTIAL QUEST midiseries. The intended conclusion to the WCA storyline, approximately four issues, deserves to be published, much like Peter David's LAST AVENGERS STORY, because the material, particularly the intended resolution of the Phantom Rider-Mockingbird storyline, is *that* good,
Heinberg might have meant well with Vision II, but the character is grossly inferior as a concept, and doesn't have the same themes. Vision II is a computer program, whereas Vision I was a synthetic human.
