This week we say good bye to two unheralded member of the Spidey team.

First off, Assistant Editor Aubrey Sitterson has left us for the worldwide world of professional wrestling. Aubrey was involved in the early planning of "Brand New Day" before moving to the X-Office last year and was integral to the initial summit with the Braintrust. In his time here in the Spidey-verse, he was just “delightful” and full of well received ideas…including unmarrying Peter and MJ (so if that made you mad you can put completely put all blame solely on him and absolutely no one else).

Also, sadly, Associate Editor Molly Lazer has left us for the educated world of graduate school. Though Molly was officially Tom Brevoort’s assistant, she often helped both Brennan and I with getting this book out the door and generally keeping spirits up in the office by breaking into random songs and overanayzing episodes of "Doctor Who." Additionally, she was also the editor of many readers' favorite Spider-title, our sister book AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL. She always had one foot in Spidey’s world and we’ll definitely miss her. More than we'll miss Aubrey, actually.

Next...Gwen Stacy in a bathroom?

OMD/BND is crap
OMD/BND is crap and anyone currently involved in Spider-Man should be embarrassed. I haven't bought a single ASM comic in 2008 and won't ever again until they get rid of OMD/BND. It's crap.

Spidey does not make deals with the devil.

Thanks Marvel for making the best hero ever a worthless selfish piece of crap

BND
I couldnt find any mail or email addresses on the site so i decided to just post my letter here, i hope its okay :D

I am writing this message in response to the current Spider-Man story-line "Brand New Day" of which I have many problems least of all is that the last 20 years of Spider-Man continuity has been erased. I'm sure many people complaining have raised the question of continuity and the Peter/MJ marriage as the most striking disappointments, I on the other hand, do not believe these to be the worst offenses of this new run. Which is scary as well as exceedingly sad.

I have collected Amazing Spider-Man since I was six years old, I liked the clone saga. The story may have been far-fetched but the issue to issue writing was fun, intelligent and logical enough to understand; Ben Reilly's character development was also very well done. These are the problems of the NEW Spider-Man. Each issue reads as a constant one-liner there is no substance, the entire thing is completely fluff. (with the exception of Zebb Wells two issue run which i enjoyed) The art has been great and from what I can gather Marvel believes this can somehow save the book.

It seems to me that the last 30 years of advancement in story telling has been forgotten, and i feel like I'm reading comic books from the 1960s, and while those issues are important historically none of them are going to win literary awards. I think it would have been more effective to just reprint old issues and not waste time creating inferior new ones. There has been absolutely no character development of Peter Parker or anyone else for that matter (which maybe due to the fact that the supporting characters barely appear for more then 5 panels an issue). For example there was more development in one recent issue of Avengers: Initiative (introducing Boulder) than there has been for all the characters combined in BND since it began.

If the writing had been able to make up for the completely ridiculous circumstances of the book (which used to be based on Science) then I really would not have a problem. I really do not want to see Spider-Man narrate his life like he is on the Discovery Channel in each issue, It seems disrespectful to both the reader and the artist in this age of comic book story telling. I am excited about JRJR's return to Amazing, being as I grew up with him on Spider-Man, but i seriously question again, whether he can save extremely bad and corny dialogue and story telling.

I also have a severe problem with MJ's return at the end of the last issue, It doesn't make sense to bring her back just to be a damsel in distress (I think maybe MJ from the movies has been confused with the strong character she grew to be in the comic). Bringing her back as the trophy chick on the arm of some Hollywood heart throb is devolving the character past what I believe is fair (Joe Q leave her alone please!). MJ had grown so much as a character and to see her portrayed like that really hurts me as a reader and a person.

The last thing I'd like to mention is the complete lack of compelling villains. They have nothing that draws you to them like older spider-man rogues (ie: Green Goblin, Doc Ock, even Man-wolf) It maybe due to the fact that they randomly show up, fight then leave with nothing but empty space and no logical or perceived connection to the weak story lines they are in, or that they are just so hooky that it doesn't even matter if they even looked cool (which they don't).

I guess what it really boils down to is that, regardless of the premise of BND, the real problems of bad storytelling, worthless dialogue, and none existent character development are what is really ruining this run for me and what could hamper any exciting changes (JRJR) in the future. I had once reserved Spider-Man a spot as the last book on my pull-list that I read every week, now I read it first so that the comics after can get the bad taste out of my mouth. I love Spider-Man so much that it is incredibly painful to see it as the laughing stock of Marvel comics where a steady progression of art and storytelling to a more realistic overall universe has left spider-man behind.

Thank you,

think about it...
we have no idea what MJ is like until the next issue. it is very plausibble that MJ is the new hero Jackpot. even Pete thinks so and he should know better then anyone. and i beleave that MJ and peter will get married again. Myfesto only took their kid not their marriage. also when OMD concluded they staff at marvel said that they will do something else with myfesto after about a year. so everyone that is still bitter about OMD just sit back and suck it up

BND is bringing me back!
Keep doin what you're doin with ASM. Its brought me back to the world of Spider-man after I left it during the Clone Saga.

Keep up the excellent work Marvel!

Gotta agree somewhat with Tom
It's nice to take a break from the craziness that sometimes comes from so much history. Maybe it's a great time for new fans to come on. That being said, I've got a prob only with a couple issues artwork. It is nice to pick up a book that doesn't have large continuing sagas every month. I am concerned about the quality that will keep coming.. I hope you guys can keep a cycle of certain artists coming! I love the character and want to keep buying this book! give me a reason! please! don't make me forsake the poor guy!
