Aw man!
I just sat down and read that issue a couple nights ago. I was really confused by some of Stan's dialogue choices that seemed to contradict Kirby's notes as to what was happening. It made me wonder how much of that went on 'back in the day' and consider how much of the magic of certain collaborations might come from the two creators not being on the same page. It was a very nice book but, yeah, with this find I think I'll have a hard time looking at it the same way again myself. Any chance of doing a 'Final Cut' (Blade Runner-Style) for publication in the final Omnibus of the Stan/Jack FF?
Man. I can't even imagine how irked you must be about this.

Ed, that stuff went on all the time. Particularly with later Ditko efforts on Spider-Man - it's part of what drove him off the book in the end.

wow...
that just sucks... i don't know what else to say about it.

Hey Tom, as frustrating as it must be... It is a great accomplishment nonetheless... And perhaps if you hadn't published the book the page might not have been found by you guys at all....

you're kidding! Any chance of a reprint? or maybe slipping it into a collection?

Don't sweat it...
TLA was a great issue and I loved it. Thanks for this scan though!

How does this fit?
Given Johnny & Ben's interaction, it looks as if this page would be page 9 in John Morrow's feature. If that is the case, where would the panel he thought was on page 9?

Wasn't Millar going to write a version of this issue too? You could insert it in there.
Posted by Maestro on 2008-03-14 05:48:50
Huh
That does suck. Though you probably wouldn't have garnered as enough attention to get the page sent without publishing the incomplete one to begin with.

As those here have already mentioned: print the updated version in the eventual future FF omnibus collection.
Good thing today's market allows for this opportunity.

Marvel goes back to press all the time; if you can slap on a new cover, you can slip in a new page....

Dont Sweat it, Tom
Yeah, its a bummer all right. But look at it this way....now Marvel can get themselves a useable copy of the page, re-do the book so it is now "complete", and get all of us saps to buy it again! Not what you intended, of course, but I'm sure Marvel is more than happy to take our money twice.
Nice of you to plug Mark's new book. I am going to buy it. Now its time for you to plug the greatness of Spidey before your boss ruined him. Come on, Tom....the truth will set you free.

... again...
i'm sorry for even humoring your incessant posting with a response, but have you even read any of BND?
Its consistently good, if not great. The only story in recent years that even had me this interested was the ASM Civil War story (hmmm a trend, it was shaking things up instead of sitting static.) Although i do agree that the mystic reset button was a cheap tactic and there were plenty of other ways to do what they want to but, some really interesting stories have shot out from it. At least give it a try, seriously just pick up the first arc. It's good.
Oh and before you say anything about reader's leaving marvel because of OMD, the dude behind the counter at my local comic shop was saying that for every reader that dropped ASM a new reader tacked it onto their pull. They've lost no money over it and are actually making more because of the new shipping schedule. That's cool to me because the shop has fallen on hard times and has even been rumored as shutting down. The more money they can get the better imo. Just thought that was interesting.
have fun hating!

Anson 17...again...
Zoovie for president! He's been spot-on. If you dont dig what he is saying, stop putting focus on him. In my opinion he's been 100% right. In your opinion, he's been wrong.
Looks like you just cant help but write about what he thinks all the time. Its pretty clear that he's got quite a bit of power over you, Mr Anson 17.
Message to Zoovie: Say your thing, Man! What you think is just as valid as what anyone else thinks. And for the record, I agree with you on BND!

well you've proven my point
as you've pointed out, he's just an angry poster fueled by my attention so the smart thing seems to be to step down and just let someone else enjoy ASM as it seems is going on at my LCS. I was just getting sick of his posts clogging a blog that i normally enjoy reading. On to Brevoorts' newest post.

To Anson
HUH? I said he was an angry poster that is fueled by you?
Uh, no I said no such thing. I said he was 100% spot-on in my opinion, and has been 100% right in my opinion.
I said that you cant help but write about what he thinks and that he seems to have power over you.
You made the rest up. You are entited to what you think, and so is he. So say your thing, and let him say his without ridicule.
You one of those comic book fans that never had a date? I think so, because you seem so uptight.
Posted by comics comics on 2008-03-17 22:48:32
haha my favorite insult to comic book fans. But yes, i've had dates. My girlfriend and i have been going strong for about a year and a half now (at least i think we finally hit that 1.5 mark, i'm terrible with numbers)
Sorry i misunderstood what you were saying. I get that you agree with him and that's fine with me. I agree with you guys that OMD was a cheap way out (and i've said that a couple times) It just seems out of line to be DEMANDING anything from an editor or writer when its their creative medium. Really, i'm not that uptight, these posts have been fairly out of character for me. I figured i'd come off like that, but i'm one of those guys that really feels like these stories are the writers work and they have the "right" to do anything they want. I write fiction myself (no, not fan fiction), so its kinda one of those pet peeves of mine when people make comments like that.
Tom Brevoort also seems like the wrong guy to be yelling at. If Queseda is the one who commissioned the story then there's really nothing he could do about it. Its still business.
I still say at least give the first three issues a shot. They were a lot of fun. Slott really nailed it and the art is hot (forgot who the artist was) The current arc isn't as good. Gale's got a good story going but something about his dialogue is just... off. Its still pretty good though. Just not as good as Slott's arc.
I completely understand if you don't wanna give em a shot though. I was really hesitant at first (and had even pretty much sworn off the series) but my library had the first two issues sitting there and i got curious. Checked em out and loved em. My friend has it on his pull so i just read em when he gets them. I understand that the whole marriage thing is not an easy pill to swallow, but idk, i thought it was worth it because the current stories have been really interesting so far. I'm curious to see where it goes. Its not for everyone. That's for sure. I guess its just not for you and zoovie.
Hopefully i cleared some of that up.

Missing Kirby page
Include it in the just solicited/upcoming HC !

Frustration, pass it on...(pass on it! =)
You know Tom, I wouldn't let it eat you so much. As it stands after close examination, that page wouldn't have been easily usable anyway. The top two panels already re-iterate what there was (and what was recreated by Ron Frenz almost verbatim). The last 4 panels would have meant other portions of the story would have had to been reworked (thusly pushing back release even further). Joe Sinnott will hopefully get a good scan of this page and ink it (thusly completing the remaining whole). So You already undertook a herculean effort, arrived with what you did. Kudos for being a complete as you could be.
Now on to other things: There will be another article in a upcoming "The Jack Kirby Collector". This will be a follow up to the newer materials in FF:TLA and a comparison to both stories. It will be all inclusive as possible (FF#108, FF:TLA, Ron and Joes work, Stans script, John Morrows's notes and of course the straggler page). I hope that that is something that everyone can benefit from. I know what you went through on this--I myself had a lot to accomplish with all the above mentioned materials. It was like a crazed dance with Pan and Dionysus. Now let's just hope that some of those lost panels show up, NOW! Putting out FF:TLA was like throwing a art magnet out there--It just gravitates because of the interest. You should see about including the page (Sinnott inked of course!) in the Hard cover.
