Letter of the Day - Follow Up
2008-06-06 13:07:59

Here's a follow up I just received from our favorite inner city school teacher, John Wilinski, whose earlier letter I posted some time ago:

Hi Tom,

We just had our second (and last ) meeting of the year for the comic book club. Matt Fraction was kind enough to stop by and answer some of the kids' questions (most of which had to do with who could beat the Hulk in a fight). He handed out a big stack of comics to the kids and stuck around to sign them too. We all had a really great time.

I have attached a couple of pictures. One is a group shot, the other is Matt signing a copy of Invincible Iron Man for a young lady named Yasmin. Yasmin has read all of the trades you sent us except for one. It has been really impressive the way she just devoured those books.

I am really pleased with how well the comic book club has worked out. I am definitely going to do it again next year; although I will start earlier. Thanks again for all of your support.

Best wishes,
John

More later.

Hey Tom,
Any chance of Marvel ever making it over to the European side of the Atlantic, for some of your overseas fans?

About that cjm...
Marvel hasn't quite rightly began to make appearances in schools through out the US, let alone Europe.

Though I think it would be a great gesture of respect to many of Marvel's young fans if the comic writers, and even Joe Quesada took the time to visit schools across the country.

Pretty cool to see writers taking time to visit schools. When I was in high school awhile back, the school librarian had told me Neil Gaimen had made an appearance at one of the library locations in the city(Toronto), I hadn't really gotten into comics yet, just reading whatever trades I could get my hands on but I had heard of him vaguely. So that was an opportunity missed.

Awesome
It's really awesome to see kids interested in comics.. and the niceness of creators who take the time out to encourage it. Kudos all around!

whoa
thank you, I knew I should have stayed at home...
Without the pictures, I would have take this letter for a fake, this guy can't be a teacher to me...and at last I'm seeing Matt Fraction my idol...
guess he just has to nam his favourite parking now
( or go to seek his boss.... )
