Secret Invasion: Victory!
2008-08-25 15:51:56

I’m prepared to declare victory in our much-contested struggle to get the Marvel North colors to fly in the DC office where once Jeanine Schaefer worked.

Here’s the story.

Earlier this week, we were visited by Jason Blanchard, the owner of A Comic Shop in Winter Park, Florida. Jason’s one of the most promotion- and outreach-minded retailers I’ve ever seen, and from what he was telling us, his store has really seen a benefit from it. He and his crew have done everything from organizing competing Pro-and Anti-Superhuman Registration protests on the street outside his shop to pulling together his own Skrull Kill Krew to seek out and uncover alien infiltrators in his area—all with an eye to drawing attention and potential customers to his store. He also gives away tons of comics in his area, leaving them pretty much anywhere that people traffic, with directions to his store attached on the inside. As a result of his imaginative approach to retailing, he’s seen his sales continue to grow steadily even in this decaying economy.

But that’s beside the point.

Jason was in town to visit both major companies, to get the nickel tour, meet some people, and speak with the sales reps about some of the strategies that have been working for him. He went to the DC offices first. While he was there, waiting in Dan Didio’s office for the guy to return from some meeting or other, he glanced out the window—and beheld an awesome sight!

There, in one of the windows of the Bank of America building across the way, was a colossal Marvel banner! Jason was quick-thinking enough to snap a pair of photos, which he was gracious enough to allow me to share with you here.

Now, granted, this isn’t quite the same thing as having the Marvel North flag displayed within our new territories. But I’m so tickled by the notion that every time Dan or one of his DC minions gazes out of the windows of their seemingly-impregnable fortress they’re greeted by the sight of a huge Marvel logo, I’m calling an end to the hostilities. From now on, Bank of America will be the new Marvel North! So let it be done!

(And if the person or persons who hung that banner in the window are reading this, drop me a line—I’d love to hear more about it!)

More later.

Jason is the best
I did a signing at A Comic Shop a couple months back, and it is indeed a great store, staffed by the kind of guys you want to have in charge of every comic shop in the country. They know their stuff, they know how to bring new people in the door, and they know how to keep them coming back.

So I have noticed Brevoort
So far today, I have not seen one DC ad on this site, though the enemy could very well be seeking their revenge... What if DC seeks to fly their flags near Marvel turf?! 0_0

Anyways... well-played Brevoort. Kinda wish I was involved with the installing of the Marvel flag just to get the glory lol!

So... what will next week's blog be?

YEEESSS!!
Dude Tom, if I worked for Marvel, that flag would be up in the DC offices!!! Either that, or I would've attempted 20 infiltrations by now! But I live in TX, so it's impossible for me. But you fight a good fight sir!!! The dream shall live on!

The return home from battles hard fought
I'm glad we can declare success on the northern front and can return victorious. Now we can focus on the most pressing domestic issues that need to be address.

Namely, righting the ship at Amazing Spider-man. Now that we're no longer worried about stabbing our flag poles into other sovereign lands, we can return Spider-man and replace this impostor or just as well publish the real Spider-man and this imitation. I wouldn't even mind a two-in-one format with the real Spider-man rocking the front half.

Let's steamroll the good faith of the electorate built on the blood, sweat, and tears of our victory in the northern front.

Make mine again and Semper Fi Marvel

Wow, a resolution to a conflict that doesn't involve fulfilling the original objectives. I don't know, it smells a lot like giving up, Mr. Brevoort...

do I have to spit onto these glasses ?

Well, it may not be the original objective you set out to accomplish, but it's good for troop morale and the civies back home will continue to support the war effort.

Secret Invasion
Can someone at Marvel please stop with all the dumb stuff in Skrull language, like in Secret Invasion:Inhumans #1:
"Skrull Language Phrase"
"Bill,you're driving me nuts"
"Dr.Who rules!"
"Wet torchwood is getting even wetter"
C'mon,is this the best that you guys could come up with?Way to insult the fans, and readers who take the time to read the SI storyline. In Secret Invasion #3,the last 4 or 5 pages are almost completely in skrull dialect, that nobody can understand.Ditto for Young Avengers/Runaways #1.All I ask is that you do what's right for people like me,that actually take the time to translate the books, just to find out it's jokes or mindless dribble.
