Fun Thing of the Day

I was sitting here this morning, working on stuff for CAPTAIN AMERICA #600, when collections editor Cory Sedlmeier brought a little treat over--a copy of CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS #1 that he'd purchased for use in reprinting that historic issue. So I got to flip through the book, and get a real sense of what it looked and felt like when it made its way to the newsstands of America on December 22, 1940.
One of the other things on my desk is a text feature written by Joe Simon, Cap's co-creator, which will be featured along with some rare artwork in CAP #600 as well--so the whole morning kind of came wrapped in a bow. And for those interested in the careers of the Simon & Kirby team, there's a terrific-looking hardcover book, THE BEST OF SIMON & KIRBY, that will be released any day now. While not a Marvel publication, arrangements were made so that this volume could feature a golden age Cap story among its many contents.
More later.
