The Editorial Crew

It occurs to me that I haven't ever really introduced the other members of my editorial team to everybody. Well, let's take care of that now, yes?

ANDY SCHMIDT is my associate editor, directly editing X-FACTOR, MS. MARVEL and the entire ANNIHILATION event under my oversight. Though he's less involved in the office's other books than he used to be, Andy continues to pitch in, especially on CIVIL WAR and NEW AVENGERS.

MOLLY LAZER is my senior assistant editor, who directly edits SPIDER-GIRL, THUNDERBOLTS and LAST PLANET STANDING. She's the point person on FANTASTIC FOUR, YOUNG AVENGERS and FRONT LINE.

"STONEWALL" AUBREY SITTERSON is my junior assistant editor, who directly edits MARVEL TEAM-UP. He was a key component of the recent I HEART MARVEL event, and has taken a strong position on our new BLADE series, as well as THE IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN.

NICOLE BOOSE is Ralph Macchio's assistant editor, but she functions as my associate editor on IRON MAN due to her having made first contact with Dan Knauf. Otherwise, she works on a bevy of custom-publishing comics and the odds and ends of the ULTIMATE line.

MARK PANICCIA and NATE COSBY mostly do their own thing, but I oversee and consult on their Marvel Universe titles, such as HULK and the upcoming AGENTS OF ATLAS.

My office runs differently than most others, in that its a very free-flowing environment. This means that everybody works on everything to some degree, depending on their specific aptitudes. Each person develops specific relationships with different creators, and has a slightly different skill set. In this way, we hopefully play to everybody's strengths, while shoring up everybody's weaknesses. At least two sets of eyes are on every page of every book as it makes its way through the publishing process--so it's quite extraordinary that we make as many mistakes as we do.

Much to his chagrin, C.B. Cebulski hasn't yet been mentioned in this blog. Perhaps if he'd finish the script for the first issue of his secret project for the top of next year.

More later.

I know a lot of people talk about how to become a writer or artist at Marvel. I've always been curious, how does one become an editor?

Cebulski
I read somewhere that he's working on a Dakota North series.

thanks for introducing the crew! out of a strange sense of curiousity, what's the difference between an assistant editor and, say an exectutive editor? Or an associate editor?

Ok: Ran across the following at Wikipedia looking up Juggernaut:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juggernaut_(comics)

During his criminal career the Juggernaut amassed notable wealth and thoroughly enjoyed his work. Often accompanying him was the mutant mercenary known as Black Tom Cassidy, who was his only friend, and with whom he once tried to share his power. Tom did not like the physical effects of the power on his body however, so it was eventually returned to Cain. As the power is mysteriously divided and diminished when possessed by more than one host, Cain hurled the gem into space to prevent anyone from invoking the power for themselves and weakening him again.

Then, he underwent a brief revision of his powers and origin, and was seen on the run from the psychic entity called Onslaught. Onslaught physically struck the Juggernaut from Canada all the way to New Jersey in the beginning of the Onslaught crossover with a blow that strangely knocked the Juggernaut unconscious. The lapse in portrayal would continue as Onslaught would later imprison the Juggernaut in the Cyttorak dimension by reaching into Cain Marko's chest and pulling out the ruby of Cyttorak, leaving Cain Marko powerless. As the ruby had never physically resided in Cain's body nor does he require physical contact with it to retain his power, this act contradicted all previous depictions of the Juggernaut and the ruby. How or whether this storyline can be reconciled with the rest of the Juggernaut's appearances is unknown. The Juggernaut continued his criminal activities and various adventures, such as becoming the celebrated patron of Sirocco Sprawl, New Mexico.
*************

To jive this history with the rest of Juggernaut's history is easy.

When someone takes on the powers of the gem, a representation of the gem becomes embedded within the person's body, only somewhat contradictory to this portion of the history as cited above:

As the ruby had never physically resided in Cain's body nor does he require physical contact with it to retain his power, this act contradicted all previous depictions of the Juggernaut and the ruby.
***************

The ruby itself indeed continues to exist outside of the host body, but a physical representation of the ruby does indeed reside within the host body. It can be removed either physically or psychically, as the representaion of the ruby within Tom Cassady was not removed from him physically.

When Cain SHARED the gem's power with Tom Cassady, the power of the gem was partitioned. Therefore, ANOTHER representation of the gem appeared within Tom's body. When Tom didn't like what the gem's spell did to him physically, and returned the power to Cain, his internal gem ceased to exist, returning its portion of power back to the gem within Cain's body.

The gem that Cain threw into space IS the Ruby of Cyttorrak (sic), and IF some other entity ever recovers it, they too will internalize a representation of the gem; and Cain would find his power reduced again.

I mention this, because this could be another explanation of why Cain's power has been reduced. Perhaps another entity somewhere out there has found the gem and Cain is actually having to share his power again.
