Gave out the very first No-Prize today. These guys set the bar pretty durned high for everybody else. You want to see what "Meritorious Service to Marveldom" is all about? Check this out:

Mr. Brevoort (or whoever screens this e-mail address),

My name is Freddie Yelinek and I have been attempting to win a "No-Prize" for the last 20 years. Most of my attempts involved hand written letters to my favorite Marvel comics, and all of them were for naught. But now that I hear you are reinstituting the No-Prize (if only some digital version) and it is advertised for "meritorious service to the cause of Marveldom" I think I may have my best chance yet.

Today, Friday August 11, 2006 (Korea Standard Time), my good buddy and co-worker Matt Pierce and I mailed 79lbs of Marvel comics from our personal collections in 3 boxes to another friend of ours in Iraq. You see as well as being huge comics fans we three are also Defense Contractors supporting the US ARMY. Matt and myself here in S. Korea and our buddy Carl Sevier in Iraq. Our friend Carl will be distributing these to the US service members there at Victory Base Iraq. There will be no strings attached to this donation. Who knows, a few of these fine Marvel comics might make it into the hands of some Iraqi children.

The comics include the first 50 Issues of New X-Men, the entire run of Grant Morrison's New X-men, various Ultimate comics, the last 30 issues of Incredible Hulk, Both Ultimate Avengers DVDs (one of which was just purchased this week) and many more runs + TPBs. (see photo attached).

Now I wouldn't expect you to just take a couple of pics of a pile of comics + 2 guys with some mailing boxes as enough to get 3 guys No-Prizes. So our friends in Iraq are gonna take an All-American picture of all this Marvel schwag and send it to me upon receiving the donations. Hopefully once I send you guys that picture you guys might find a spot on your blog on marvel.com, because those guys are real heroes.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Freddie Yelinek

Freddie, you definitely want to send me that photo from Iraq for this blog when those packages arrive. Everybody else: you're on notice. No nitpicking over some point of continuity here. Let's see what you can do.

Next week, in addition to the usual nonsense, we're maybe gonna do the flipside of last week, with Good Comics I Had a Hand In, and see if that teaches us anything. In the meantime, keep cool.

More later.

Tom B
Oh. My. God.
Now THAT is what I call supporting our toops. Sure beats the whole "Bacon Grease On My Chest In Hundred Two Degree Weather" schtick? Who was THAT aiding?

What??
I must have missed that one! By the way, Nice try, Dr. B, but you and your kind have raised us well, too well. It is going to take more than that to get us to drop our continuitous nitpickity ways. We are, after all, your children....
