Response to the "Marvel Editor Simulator" has been pretty overwhelming. Stupid me, I figured I'd get a couple of applicants, and easily pick one out of the line-up and be back about my business. But there are apparently a whole bunch of you who'd like to play "armchair editor"--so selecting a finalist to play was much like picking the creative team on an actual book. For a moment or two, I actually toyed with the idea of letting several people play at once, but I suspect that would become unwieldy awfully quickly.

But now I'm thinking that maybe we could work it with two people--I haven't decided just yet whether to have them operate as Editor and Assistant Editor on a line of books, as two editors on two sets of books, or as editors of the same titles, each operating in a separate fictional reality. If anybody's got an opinion on any of this, feel free to post it--I'll have a firm decision on thsi by start-up time on Friday.

Okay, the moment you've all been waiting for. Our two Mock-Editors for this simulation exercise will be:

Steve Quincy

and

Hugh Sheridan

Guys, you want to drop me another e-mail by tomorrow morning acknowledging that you've seen this and that you're game. (If you don't, then I'm going to assume that you're not going to be diligent enough to be checking teh blog every day, and so will have to disqualify you.)

And to everybody else who sent in a request: sorry. Wish I could take you all, but hopefully you'll still get something out of this experiment as observers and "Greek Chorus."

Simulation begins in 48 hours.

Moer later.

Tom B
A rivalry of some description would be more interesting, to show how different people decide on different things.

Congratulations to Steve and Hugh for being chosen :)

Two separate lines of books!
I think an interesting way to go about this would be to give them two different sets of books and, as things progress, they have to eventually, as the contest ends, settle on creative teams/titles/length of titles, etc, and we as the real armchair editors could vote on who's titles are the most attractive, and declare a 'fake editor winner' (or something). I think if they had the same titles in two separate worlds, it would be confusing for you (writing mock reactions to them), for them (to not cheat and copy each other or worry that a move would be seen as copying), and for us (to tell them apart).

Vote with your... voting thing
Perhaps other readers could respond with some sort of polling device whether we would be adding the resultant books to our 'pull lists' ?

Ooh, bummer.
Wish I'd seen this earlier--I's loved to have try to participate. Unfortunately, the 'Latest Post' listing on the main blogs page seems to be running behind these days, and I missed it.

Curious
How many people applied and how did you choose who you chose?

hey...not sure if this is kosher...
but I just wanted to post a quick support of the civil war delays, and wasn't sure where else to do it... I'm the buyer for one of Canada's largest, and definitely oldest comic shops and I have to say Civil War has brought more new readers into our store than any other comic - EVER. I'm exstatic that Marvel is going to make sure to maintain the quality of the book from begginning to end - 'cause let's face it, regular comic guys are used to fill ins but all of these new customers are easily put off by such things. Also, I hear a lot of rumbling is about the loss of sales due to the lag time between issues, and all I can think of is my orders - we keep reordering issue 1, have sold through well over a 1500 by now, and in the lag time between issues we end up just grabbing more and more new readers ... in fact by the time issue 4 hits, I won't be surprised if we have to double our order on CW, from it's already record breaking numbers in house.

So, uh, not brilliantly said, but I just wanted to give a pat on the back and all that. Civil War has been amazing, good job and keep going!

(though I do find Black Widow's non-involvement troubling)

Marvel SUCKS!
I think it is very dishonest of you & your company to not tell fans, retailers during WW Chicago that CW #4 & CW related books were going to be delayed only hours before CW #4 release. You had me in w/ Daredevil & out w/ the this screw up w/ Civil War.

Note to Marvel exes.

DROP DEAD! Don't waste my time by solicliting a series if you have not finished the freaking work. Have it in the can before you solclit the project or don't tell me about. No more excuses, delays, & lies. Marvel will forever in my mind be second rate to DC from this day forward.

I wash my hands of you & your company. Spending my Marvel bucks on DC & indies.

Former Marvel Fan,
Matthew
