Visitor's Day
2006-11-07 09:00:16

It was special visitor's day here in the Heroes office today. First up was Reggie Hudlin, who stopped by with Axel Alonso to talk a little bit about the CIVIL WAR tie-in issues of BLACK PANTHER, as well as some future plans. Not only is Reggie an upbeat, witty guy, but he's always so immaculately dressed that he makes me feel like more of a slob than usual standing next to him.

Afterwards, I had lunch with My-Man-At-Marvel Bill Rosemann, who'll be returning to work at the House of Ideas in just a couple of weeks. Bill remains as enthusiastic as ever, as he hipped us to what he'd been up to since we saw him last. We loaded Bill up with a small stack of reference and back issues on a couple of the titles he'll be spearheading in the months to come.

And today is New Comics Wednesday, so it's time to select our Heroes Spotlight book of the week. Now, I'm sure that each and every one of you is already going to be checking out CIVIL WAR #4, so this week's Heroes Hot Pick is BLADE #1. Marc Guggenheim and Howard Chaykin bring moviedom's favorite Vamp-kicker back into the Marvel Universe proper. If you've been enjoying Marc's CIVIL WAR tie-in issues of WOLVERINE, or you remember Howard's work from a multitude of classic, edgy series of the past (and more recently, NEW AVENGERS #21), then you'll perhaps want to give this series an eyeball. Reggie Hudlin said that it looked cool--and Reggie's never wrong about this kind of thing.

More later.

Tom! Reggie Hidlin should be taking over as Fantastic Four writer - especially if the rumoius of Black Panther and Storm temporarily joining the FF are true

Chaykin etc
Great to see Howard at Mighty Marvel. Really interesting to see him doing mainstream stuff -- loved the Avengers issue he did. But the talent that gave us American Flagg, Black Kiss and Blackhawk needs to be given a property to develop for icon or a Max book.
What do you think?
Also great to see Bill back at Marvel. I met him at Wizard World Chicago 2001. We met at the hotel bar and gabbed for hours about comics. He's really and truly a nice guy. That night I also met Paul Jenkins and me being Irish slagged him off about being English ... until he corrected me by informing me he was Welch. Now that was embarrassing ... alcohol is a terrible curse!

Blade
Hi, haven't seen Blade #1 yet (on order), but I have been a fan of the TV series since it first aired and I am looking forward to season 2.
I am really hoping the comic is as good as the tv series.

Bill is back!
It's good to see Rosemann back at Marvel...it seemed like a better fit for him than CrossGen or the Distinguished Competition was.
As for Blade: the TV series was pleasantly entertaining for me, and I hope to see a comic series with him that actually does the character service. With Howard on board, I'd bet dollars to donuts it has a good chance.
