Hot Pick: Fantastic Four
2006-11-01 18:37:06

Another Wednesday has arrived, so before I head off to the comic shop myself, it's once again time to select this week's Marvel Heroes best bet new release of the week.

This time out of the box, the Marvel Heroes Hot Pick of the Week is FANTASTIC FOUR: THE END #1--and even more specifically, not just the ordinary edition, but the Rough Cut version we shot from Alan Davis's immaculate pencils. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the inking and coloring on the book, but there's just something about the lushness of Alan's drawings direct in pencil that add a certain something special to that particular version.

Not just a story about the last days of the Fantastic Four, FF THE END roams far and wide throughout the Marvel Universe of the future, and includes appearances by everybody from the Avengers to Nick Fury to the Inhumans. If you liked Alan's work on THE NAIL across town, this series shoudl be right up your alley.

And tomorrow, unless I change my mind and decide to go in another direction, I'll give you my picks for the five best books that Marvel is publishing right now. (Any guesses?) And in the weeks to come: Bad Comic Books I Wrote, More Good Comics I Had A Hand In, a look at plots and scripts, secrets of the Marvel Bullpen lunches, and more.

More later.

my guesses
Top 5 books.
1. Runaways- don't personally read it but it is always up there.
2. Captain America- Brubaker has Cap at the top of his game.
3. Daredevil- Bru Cru strikes again.
4. THE ULTIMATES- Perhaps best overall title in comics. Does exactly what it aims to do. Sometimes Millar misses a few things that an American writer would get right, but a great great book.
5. Ultimate Spiderman- The student has become the master.

NEXT LEVEL-
6. Uncanny X-men. Take me to the Homeworld, Ed! Go! Go! Go!
7. Astonishing X-men. Good, fun mutant read. Joss writes a little too much Buffy banter into it and the two major villians are lame. Best Logan writing (that is Logan with Blue Eyes!!!!) out today.
7.

Fantasmagoric Hot PICK!!
The panel sequences and style on this book is amazing!! Nobody draws a picture story board like Davis. Details, details, details! This is a mark of a high quality comicbook. Marvel got it right with Alan Davis.

And you, Mr. Brevoort, got #1 hot pick right with FF!
