Let's Rap With Cap

By now, most everybody's experienced the horror that was this year's Joe Quesada x-mas song in the latest Cup of Joe column over at Newsarama--and if not, I'm told it's also going to be available here on Marvel.com at some point.

What you don't know is just how much effort went into making the thing. Joe himself spent at least two almost-sleepless nights recording, editing and mixing the tune, even after all the parts had been performed. And a whole slew of editorial folks not only lent their so-called vocals to the song, but also wrote huge chuinks of lyrics.

The first rought cut of the song that Joe brought in on Thursday to demo for us ran fourteen minutes long, so some of the best material got left on the cutting room floor (including an especially funny couplet about Spidey's unmasking that was simply too rude to include.)

As a small example, here's the whole of the piece I performed, maybe half of which made it into the final cut (and I'm not certain if that's a good thing or a bad thing...)

Civil War's runnin' late, yeah, don't gimme no lip
'Cause you're backed up in line when that bad boy done ships

I don't wanna be hearin' how your heroes been wrecked
Show Mark Miller and Mista McNiven respect.

Hey my retailer brother, ain't no time for no frowns
You'll be dryin' your eyes when that register sounds!

So just chill, just uncleanch, that's what I'm here to tell you
Civil War could be later-- could be drawn by Joey Q!

Out!

I was also very sad to lose the following bit from the big refrain:

I work at Marvel
WE GOT ANNIHILATION!

I work at Marvel
AND WEST COAST ALLOCATION!

Aw!! I forgot that bit about it being later cuz of da Q! That was awesome...I wonder if JOE being the one to put this together was any reason that line got left out... ;-) heh heh

Why should we show Millar and McNiven respect?!! They haven't shown the 40-year old icons they're privileged enough to work on respect!!! Gahh!!
