Convention
2007-02-23 16:12:59
It's always a busy week when the New York convention comes to town, and these past few days have been no exception. Visiting dignitaries of one stripe or another have passed through the Marvel offices in a steady stream, making it more difficult than normal to focus on any task that needs to be completed.

The upside to all of this added activity is that most of the people who do swing by are wonderful individuals, folks we never get to spend enough time with due to the fact that everybody's so spread out across the globe. For many, this'll be the only time they get up to our offices all year, if not longer.

So yesterday, a whole crew of staffers and I went to lunch with the winner of Atomic Comics' Editor In Chief For A Day contest, and Atomic honcho Mike Malve. It was a nice lunch, but it ran late, meaning that I was rushing for the rest of the day. We also got a visit from Tom Beland, who presented me with a True Story Swear To God ballcap as well as an inscribed page of original art from the first issue.

And today, Scott Hanna ambled around the halls in his laidback way, and I received an unexpected drop-in from Frank Cho while eating lunch at my desk--Frank probably got the worst of that one. He was in the company of Yanick Paquette, and the two of them were waiting for Ralph Macchio to get off the phone so they could go out to lunch.

The offices are emptying out now, as people start to head over to the hall--many of the Marvel bigwigs have been there since this morning, doing seminars with the retailers and previewing upcoming projects for them. Due to a family commitment, I'm not going to be able to make it to the show today, but I will be on hand on Sunday at 12:30 to debut the all-new (well, somewhat-new) format for PRIZE OR NO-PRIZE, our wacky gameshow giveaway panel. So if you're attending the Con on Sunday, by all means, stop by and play along. And because I feel bad about missing today's CIVIL WAR: THE INITIATIVE panel, I'm planning on trying to stick around right after PRIZE OR NO-PRIZE in some nearby area to talk about CIVIL WAR with anybody who'd like to, now that the whole thing's done.

Hope to see you there.

More later.

Prize or No Prize
Tom,

Sorry I couldn't make it to yet another Prize or No Prize. I could only hit the con on Saturday. I swear I'll make it to one of those eventually and show off what happens to a person's brain when his first comic is an issue of Marvel Saga.

Tom Beland
Hey Tom, you're not the only one who received a piece of original art from Tom Beland at the New York Comic-Con that day! He also honored me with an inscribed page from the first issue. I received page 15 - Tom and Lily sitting on the couch, enjoying Tom's tuna casserole. What page did he give you?
