Friday Art Payoff
2007-07-13 17:44:28
A short one today, as yesterday's blog entry didn't go live until this afternoon for some reason. Next week, if all goes according to plan, I'll be honoring a reader request by sharing some of the planning documents that went into CIVIL WAR, now that it's well in the rear-view mirror.

In the meantime, here's some more preview art to hold you all over for the weekend.

More later.

Tom B
New Avengers #34
Is this issue going to be the "Wolverine vs. Hood" story Brian Bendis teased about on a wordballoon podcast this past winter?

STOP
It's like S.R.Stahl had become the dog everybody likes to shot in.
Could you explain to me what this blog is about ?
A place where you can't stand your opinions without hearing "if you don't like it, don't read it ", I beg you pardon but WHAT ???????
I'm a fan of Moonknight, I'm glad that one of my favourite character is back, but I didn't like some things at all, with all respect for David Finch's art, I think that some of the dimension of the character had passed on too fast, it looked like a "Born again "story-arc that didn't worked in my opinion, but what do we care, the character is back ,that's what
we wanted ?
May I say it ?
It's my problem if the story is not told the way I wanted it to be ?

I'm a fan of Iron Fist, I'm glad that my favourite character is back, the art is great, wich could have feet perfectly for MoonKnight, but I don't like the story at all, the Iron Fist Legacy made me think of a poor attempt to have the Marvel counterpart of Matt Wagner's Grendel, this is Iron Fist come-back but he couldn't make it alone, let's call the family, Danny Rand think in a fight of his dead parents (one page ), don't you think there's not better to do with such things, he could wake-up in the middle of the night ?
I don't think the character is going better, neither the Marvel Universe, I'm glad to see Cage and Rand in the New Avengers who look now like the real Dream-Team, ,but what for ? Same for the Mighty...

I'm a big fan of The Eternals so I'm glad that my favourite characters are back, with all the respect I have for Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr, what I see made me think a little much of Marc Silvestri Golden Age on X-Men , where the Broods were invading Earth with inseminating mutants...
Where else can I make you notice such things ?
Some of your readers think that Michael Bendis is taking too much liberties with character's backgrounds, if it for the benefit of the story it's okay, but now it's apparently not the case, maybe it is too soon...

You're complaining about some readers who are worshipping their favourite heroes too much, can we tell you that some of your approach can sound also some kind of disrespectful ?
without listening some of readers 'criticism, it's like you were saying
"WE are on the board and you can't do nothing about it, this is comics after all and we are making jokes ", I personally find Joe Q. covers cynical...
Maybe I'm wrong about Brian Bendis work, some people are thinking that he has nothing to say and he's just winning time, maybe he's preparing his masterpiece...

.we are respecting your work, respect us

I have no idea what that rant above was about.

Nice previews though.

Notapotatoe
3 Questions.
1. What does Tom Brevoort owe you or me?
2. Why should Tom Brevoort respect you or me? How have we earned his respect? Because we are smart enough to go to marvel.com and click on the blogs?
3. How did he not respect you, me, or Stahl?

and...
Your first line should be "...the dog everyone likes to shoot at."

Posted by bigdaddyhub2 on 2007-07-14 17:05:41
kind of yourself

Wow to the Lost Stan and Jack FF story. Jack Kirby was one of the best comics artists EVER.

bigdaddyhub2, roger :
1.Probably nothing, but I'm not outside buying my fix you know,I don't like neither the " yesterday was yesterday, today here's the stuff" attitude,I don't like eating vipers so spare me some arguments about editorials suffering and artisticals choices, this is not the feeling we got reading the final product,
I don't especially like the attitude of Joe Q. neither, I understand the message but I don't like the way is it told,
you could say I can ignore it and passing on, but my purpose is also that I'd like actually to see this guy actually shutting up,- can I have this feelings ?- ,because I think he doesn't have to speak to me this way.
2.

bigdaddyhub2, roger (2 ):
pardon my english, for the " ...to shoot in ".
2. if more people were earning this blog, maybe he could realise that he can't do exactly what he wants, I like experiments and I'm for eclectism, too,but that's not it, it's winning time and making money and silly jokes.
When I feel unrespected I can make it be known,
I can even afford that the person doesn't care, I know it too, and that's O.K.
3. A way to be disrespectful is for example asking to be respectful to someone else when yourself you're unrespectful,
comparing R.Stahl with Hitler is a little too much too, not being aware by the way to use his methods, contents or energy ( still hygienic, right ? )- this is for some readers, cause Tom is apparently okay to discuss-

bigdaddyhub2,roger (3):
I don't see why it had to be the same persons who have to let it go, and heard things like :
got a problem ? :shut-up.
I don't like neither some attitudes who consists to proclaim being the victim for one word too loud, comparing on what you make us handle and the way you're doing it,
I can see it and I don't like it.

I'm a reader like another after all, I know my opinion values less than 150.000 others.
Posting ideas doesn't make of me an editor or a writer, all in all , it's just suggestions.
Desintersted ones, can you believe it ?
I was asking to myself what are the conditions to become a Marvel writer, if it's not to take care of character's backgrounds or previous story-arcs, sounds very cool.
There are some interesting ideas I had seen trough the blog, I hope to read one day The Exiles as it had been plotted, as the "Balance of Power" story-arc, and what the posters had talking on feed-back ? a "Maybe you should stay with your mama " attitude.

I was lamenting myself with the fact that Marvel had no revivals like there had been in DC with such characters like Shade the changing man and what had become the entire Vertigo line, so I was taking a look at the Golden Age Gallery to see what could be done,I dumped actually on an old character, Miss America, not very popular by appearing as a racist person in X-Statix: Dead Girl, according that I didn't read the issue, despite I'm fan of P.Milligan's work, and as it had been pointed to Joe Q, some one asked him why Marvel didn't have something equal with I don't know which DC's team ( see New Invaders post ),so I think there's something to do with this,
Jessica Jones could become the new Miss America,
The Winter Soldier taking the alias of Nomad, due to Monroe's memory;
Jones and Bucky could even find each others wandering around Cap's grave,
instead The Patriot we could have Deathlok,
Warren Wothington could become the new Red Raven, and Bobby Drake the new Jack Frost, Quicksilver could have some reason to leave X-Factor and maybe Micromax could realize that he had made some mistakes, there could have one issue on each characters and the all-together brings the "All-New Legion of Liberty ", wich is a little close to Grant Morrison' "Seven soldiers of Victory ", wait and see.
Hope I hadn't spoiled anything.

sorry bigdaddy
I had been kind of deleted.

Posted by notapotatoe on 2007-07-16 08:08:52
So... nobody noticed that cap is in iron man 21? Can you say Skrull!

Posted by LoganBattleaxe on 2007-07-16 10:19:04
?
What in the WORLD are you talking about?

Posted by PercussionMasta on 2007-07-16 10:20:30
????
wow. That was...incomprehensible.

Potatoe, I admire your passion.

Posted by bigdaddyhub2 on 2007-07-16 12:11:28
bigdaddy,
far for me the intention to sound offensive against you, but what do you mean by "incomprehensible " ?
1/ you didn't understand
2/my english is very poor ( wich I want to apologize once again.......but fear the day when I'll have a translator )
3/ hard day work, littl'tired, no time to re-read ?

I just said that let certains things happening ,in a way of publishing -caring of character's and story-arcs backgrounds - ,is unrespectful for the readers (us ), that I don't agree when they ( Tom ) ask us ( the posters, me ) to take some gloves ( eum...gloves) when we're making them notice, that THEY ( )are some kind of unrespectful with ...US, without gloves actually ('course they know ).

What I'm talking about is a little like in the movie "Harder they come ".

Posted by notapotatoe on 2007-07-16 13:51:45
yeah...
All three guesses are correct. What is the movie "Harder they come"? Is that "Die Hard"?
Also, the word is "disrespect" not "unrespect".

Your english is so much better than my french, though!
