THANKSGIVING ALL-STARS!!!
2009-11-23 11:34:27

HEY GANG,

Don't you just love when you can spend a weekend catching up with old friends? I knew I was gonna be spending this weekend with the greatest humor comic characters of the 80' (and quite possibly of all time!) So I threw on my favorite Spider-Man sweater, my Dandiest jeans, sat by the fire place and read the whole  STAR COMICS ALL-STAR COLLECTION in one sitting! This book is great for kids of all ages (and it'll make a great stocking stuffer too! >hint, hint<) There all there: PLANET TERRY, WALLY THE WIZARD, ROYAL ROY and TOP DOG!

Here are the other great trades that came out this week! (Also, great stocking stuffers!)

  • AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE - DISASSEMBLED
  • DARK AVENGERS VOL.1: ASSEMBLE
  • WOLVERINE ORIGINS: DARK REIGN
  • X-MEN LEGACY: SALVAGE
  • MIGHTY AVENGERS: EARTH'S MIGHTIEST
  • ASTONISHING X-MEN VOL.5: GHOST BOX
  • NEW AVENGERS VOL. 11: SEARCH FOR THE SORCERER SUPREME

Also, everyone here at the TRADES DEPARTMENT (Jeff Younquist, Mark Beazley, Jen Grünwald, John Denning, Alex Starbuck, Spring Hoteling, and off course me!) want to wish every MARVEL reader out there a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

AND....

This Thanksgiving be sure to watch the MACY's 2009 Thanksgiving Day Parade with the return of the SPIDER-MAN BALLOON!!! This event is so HUGE that the SPIDER-MAN BALLOON will be leading the parade. AND Alex Starbuck and I will be marching in the parade helping to carry ol' Spidey along (NO LIE!!!!!)

See you next week,

Nelson Ribeiro

GOOD NEWS / BAD NEWS
2009-11-18 11:56:10

Hey Gang,

Sorry, for the late post. But when Venom found out he wasn't the focus on the cover for the Amazing Spider-Man Trade this week, he (they?) flipped out! It took the Trades Department until today to fight him off and get our computers back online.

Which brings me to GOOD NEW/BAD NEWS TIME.

GOOD NEWS: Even while we were fighting off Venom, the Trades Department was still able to get out these great books:

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BY JMS ULTIMATE COLLECTION BOOK 2
  • X-MEN MANIFEST DESTINY
  • PUNISHER: DARK REIGN

BAD NEWS:

We didn't all make it.

R.I.P. Alex Starbuck

1990-2009

(Here's the last picture Alex Starbuck took and the only thing we have left to remember him by)

see you next week,

Nelson Ribeiro

Trick or Treat
2009-11-02 10:05:10

I love Halloween! It's the one day a year when I can stop being the kid from Sleepy Hollow, NY and I can be anyone I want to be. This year, I chose to be the MIGHTY THOR, the god of thunder. Considering I'm already 6'4" and have what many consider to be, "The body of a god", this year's transformation was easier than most! Halloween isn't just my favorite holiday, but Alex Starbuck's as well. As a special "Treat" Alex drew this Halloween card for all our blog readers!

And while Alex and I were busy drawing cards and sewing costumes the rest of the Trades department were hard at work putting together these treats that beat candy any day!

  • MARVEL MASTERWORKS: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN VOL. 3
  • Fantastic Four Visionaries: John Byrne Vol.1

So what were your costumes? We want to know!

See you next week,

Nelson Ribeiro

WANTED!
2009-10-26 12:36:40

Hey Gang,

Check out this week's Trades! These might be the world's most wanted Trades Ever!

  • INVINCIBLE IRON MAN VOL.2: WORLD'S MOST WANTED BOOK 1 (see what I mean!)
  • EXILES ULTIMATE COLLECTION BOOK 1
  • RUNAWAYS: ROCK ZOMBIES
  • WAR MACHINE VOL.1: IRON HEART
  • MARVEL ADVENTURES VOL.10: INVASION
  • RUNAWAYS VOL.9: DEAD WRONG DIGEST

And speaking of being Most Wanted, here's a picture of me when I got busted a few years back. Don't worry I wasn't up to any major skullduggery, I just didn't know it's illegal to camp outside of a comic book store in anticipation for the new Marvel books to arrive. And that's how I got my job here. It's actually part of my work-release program. But that's another story.

See you next week,

Nelson Ribeiro

Hail to the King, Baby!
2009-10-19 11:45:09

Hear Ye, Hear Ye,

The King hath returned! In as such he has decreed this royal...er...decree that all royal subjects are to read the greatest tales ever told imprinted on the kingdom's finest parchment.

To avoid any levies, impalements or beheadings, make forth to your local comique shoppe and purchase the following:

  • DAREDEVIL: RETURN OF THE KING
  • UNCANNY X-MEN: MANIFEST DESTINY

Trades Reach New Heights
2009-10-14 10:55:43

  • MOON KNIGHT VOL. 5: DOWN SOUTH
  • WOLVERINE: WEAPON X FILES
  • DARK REIGN: FANTASTIC FOUR
  • BETA RAY BILL: GODHUNTER
  • RUNAWAYS: TEENAGE WASTELAND
  • X-MEN FOREVER VOL.1: PICKING UP WHERE WE LEFT OFF

Look at the list of this week's great Trades! Just like MOON KNIGHT I also traveled DOWN SOUTH except I went to Florida. While there, I discovered that people like to just lay on towels for hours doing absolutely nothing! That time could be much better spent reading MARVEL TRADES! But I didn't know how could I get the message to a whole beach load of people at once. When I phoned in my dilemma to Dr. Grunwald, head of the Trades Department Research and Development labs, She quickly came up with a solution. The KINETIC IDENTIFIER of TRADES ENDORSER  or K.I.T.E. for short. What a success! Here's some pictures of me turn it's initial test flight!

See you next week,

Nelson Ribeiro

Start Your Day Right!
2009-10-07 11:18:39

Hey Kids,

Did you ever wonder how I got to grow up so big and strong? It's because my mom started me off with an ESSENTIAL breakfast every morning! And now like most adults I'm always rushing around but I still make time for my ESSENTIALS every morning on the train! While most people have are reading the newspaper and having coffee, I'm getting everything I need for the rest of the day by 8AM! Action, Adventure, excitement, 12 minerals and vitamins! It's all in there!

Just look at some of the great ingredients available this week:

  • ESSENTIAL GHOST RIDER VOL. 3
  • X-MEN NOIR
  • THOR BY DAN JURGENS & JOHN ROMITA JR VOL. 1

So be sure to start your day right and one day you can grow up to be big and strong just like me!

See you next week!

Nelson Ribeiro

These Trades Are Bananas!!
2009-09-28 17:18:22

Hey Gang,

In honor of Marvel Apes hitting the stores, I decided to do something special. I went to the zoo and let Noslen the chimp look through this week's trades and type his thoughts on my laptop. Here's what he had to say:

Da;4k3erur ujnk nfr; ngbb∆¨bdfnji kz mz,sdv;jkn 20

84ruj4rfikefjnbdk izfr8u 34 rrfdikjb,mrejt  4398

jkd,gkjdf hdflbj lufiureg98438934 8rlj dfdfdfnjdf

dfzjdfvz.'//er/we/;p4urgbfrlhjdfljd hjhld

I think that roughly translates into, "I give them two opposable thumbs up!"

So stop hanging around and go buy all these great books now!

  • MARVEL APES: THE EVOLUTION STARTS HERE
  • PET AVENGERS CLASSIC
  • SAVAGE SHE-HULK
  • X-MEN: MAGNETO TESTAMENT
  • SPIDER-MAN: DEATH AND DATING
  • MARVEL MASTERWORKS: THE AVENGERS VOL. 2
  • MARVEL ADVENTURES THOR AND THE AVENGERS

See you next week,

Nelson Ribeiro

Ps Does anybody know where I can get a new laptop cheap?

You'll Never Take Me Alive!

Hi Gang,

Part of the description for Spider-Man Noir is:

The year is 1933, and New York City is not-so-secretly run by corrupt politicians, crooked cops, big businesses... and suave gangland bosses like New York's worst, the Goblin...

Now that might be true, but a few short train stops up the Hudson River, everything from Sleepy Hollow to Poughkeepsie was run by, Nelson "Left Hook" Ribeiro (Who I'm named after!) My grandfather's downfall wasn't the coppers or a pair of cement shoes. It happened in October 1939 at a newsstand. He went to go buy his favorite pulp Magazine but instead he saw Marvel Comics #1! He's been a fanboy ever since!

Now if you know what's good for ya, you'll go out and buy these books see, or it's curtains for ya! Curtains.

  • SPIDER-MAN NOIR
  • HULK: SKAAR - SON OF HULK
  • SECRET WAR
