Civil War
2007-07-20 13:42:47
Well everyone, it's Monday. Based on the the comments on this blog, I've gotten the hint that I should talk more about what comics we're putting out rather than interesting & fun facts about the Trades staff.

To that end, let me talk about Civil War. Okay, already I think this is one of the best things to come out of Marvel this year (alongside NextWave & the Eternals... but those gushings are best saved for another time). So I put together a Director's Cut for the first issue for all of you. I swear to you, this is the biggest Director's Cut ever... I've got a look at the design process for everything Civil War, like posters, postcards, and the comics themselves. I'm putting in the Turner variant covers for eye candy, but for brain candy I've got the complete script for the first ish as written by Mark Millar. Plus two unused scenes!

But here's the real fun part - every script has stuff in it that can only be referred to as "spoilers." (That's what we in the "biz" call 'em - don't you feel so inside now?) I painstakingly went through the script and with a sharpie marker and personally censored out all of the sensitive information - my challenge to you is to try and figure out what I've got covered up! Go on - list your guesses below!

The Civil War Director's Cut - 64 pages of behind-the-scenes goodness - hit stands in July!
Mike Short's Crush
I think you have a little crush on Nick Lowe with all the Nextwave and Eternals gushing...

RE: Nick Lowe
How can you not have a crush on Detective Nick Love of Daredevil fame? He's the detective who fills your heart with lo-o-o-o-ove...

Maria Hill
I HATE MARIA HILL. I hate her so much that I can't stop painstakingly trying to find other Marvel books with her in them. If we don't get a Maria Hill/S.H.I.E.L.D. mini-series out of this, I'm going to just lose it. She's so bad, she's one of the best Marvel characters EVER! I'm totally serious!

Hate Maria Hill...
"I HATE MARIA HILL. I hate her so much that I can't stop painstakingly trying to find other Marvel books with her in them."

She has you right where she wants you. She's a smart one, that Maria Hill....

These aren't movies
I really don't think we should call these Special Editions, "Director's Cut". This isn't the movies. The closest thing a movie director in the production of comics is the Editor (while the editor-in-Chief could go by Executive producer and the Publisher as Producer). This is a medium of artists (and that includes writers, colorists and letterers), so I think these special issues should go by the name "Creators' Cut".

fallout for shellhead
I'm waiting for the shareholders of Stark International to file an injunction against Tony Stark's use of the Iron Man armor. You think I'm kidding?

FACT: Stark International was a publicly held company (which was how Tony lost control of it in a hostile takeover some years back).

FACT: The Iron Man armor was built while Stark was working at SI and all but the original were constructed with SI funds and materials. (Yes I know he was the inventor AND the boss, but technically it's company property, not his own.)

FACT: Tony Stark is an acknowledged alcoholic. Can you imagine what kind of liability that means?

Sure, in the event of a lawsuit (and believe me, they will come. The owner of the building Prodigy was standing in CW #2 probably called the next day.), they would go after Tony first, but if any of his investors past or present have deep pockets, an unscrupulous lawyer might go after THEM as well.

In fact, it would be well within their rights to demand that Tony cease and desist helping enforce the Superpowers Registration Act. After all, the time Tony spends tracking down Prodigy, he could be inventing a better gizmo to boost the bottom line. After all, even if Tony's retired, the suit belongs to the company, not to him.

civil war
I just finished reading civil war 3. With thor on iron man's side I dont see how cap can win. I understand Iron Man side but c'mon the goverment is shady, especially in marvel universe. Plus they shot the Hulk into space that was wrong. Cap's side needs some heavy hitters all he has are some b list characters and a fake daredevil. I hope the hulk comes and helps Captain America kick the pro registration butt.

civil war
now i know a lot of you guys are tripping about the power structures cuz right now the resistance is weak but we know that spider man will eventually switch and so will invisible woman and that will shift the sides tremendously. in all truths i dont think anyone is gonna win the war.

a death comes..
eventually a death will come. and either iron man or Cap. will most likley be the victim. face it, someone has to die for this war to end...

Please tell me... thatīs not true
CIVIL WAR..... I love it!!!!!!, Mark Millar itīs an excellent writer, but.... well I donīt now itīs something that I read a few hours ago... so I looked for the Marvel Forum, email or something to post in. No forum, no email... instead there were blogs.

Itīs true that Iron Man and Reed Richards would be Skrulls???, The New Warriors who died in the first AWESOME issue of Marvel Civil War are actually Skrull impersonators????? And that Tony Stark has engineered the entire Civil War in order to get the all the Skrulls currently impersonating superheroes?????? Please, please donīt do that, it will kill the whole event!!!!!!! would be a shame that all the CIVIL WAR plot is actually a Skrull plan?!!!!!

I love the political allegory in the book that makes comics grow up, character and scripts evolve in something more... Those books shows how forced registration of persons would spark a civil liberties controversy, and thatīs great!!!! some people (and not only comic book fans) see this as a reflection of the real world and thatīs the main difference with others superheroesīs comic books..... so that you tell me that all this CONFLICT itīs a Skrull plot???

Really..... I hope be wrong and please donīt do it.
Take it easy guys...
