Magus is one bad mutha ######. Im really looking forward to him causing a lot of havoc, while War of Kings goes on and reality still falling apart. Also, I hope he has that big afro from the original series!

The Universal Church of Truth came back because when Adam Warlock saved the universe from being consumed by the Fault by attaching the 616 time line to that of the severed Magus time line he had to overlap the time lines in order to reinforce the connection so it would stick.
Thus Adam Warlock had been Magus for months and the UCoT had made thier reappearence to the 616 Universe in GotG #1.
Now that Adam Warlock of the GotG is dead Magus has many new host options including the cocoon the UCoT has in thier possesion.
They opened it right when Adam Warlock got involved in War of Kings, which is right before we first saw him turn Magus himself during his fight with Vulcan. Could the cocoon have just contained the essence of the Magus and not his physical body, thus freeing the Magus to take over the 616 Adam Warlock when he was at his weakest?
Now that Adam is dead that means the Magus essence could easily move on to the army of Warlock clones in possesion of the High Evolutionary.

I agree with your line of thought, Wiz and if the essence of the Magus is left to find a new host-body, we could see several interesting host before he finds one of the Evolutionary's Warlock clones.
Thanks for addressing the UCT being from the future and that it was stated in Guardians #1. I think it was Warlock or Gamora that said they should not exist here.
