Marvel Announces New On-Sale Date For Secret Invasion #8
Posted: 10.28.2008 2:10pm
."
Marvel would like to announce that the hotly anticipated, extra-sized SECRET INVASION #8 will now arrive in stores on December 3rd, 2008. The top-selling comic book event of 2008, by award winning scribe Brian Michael Bendis and superstar artist Leinil Yu, concludes with this final issue that redefines the Marvel Universe and begins Dark Reign!
"The additional pages in #8 did both Leinil and the schedule in," explained Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. "Anybody who pored over the artwork from #7 a week ago can easily see how he and Mark Morales have been putting their all (and then some) into every page and every panel, and that effort has finally caught up with us. Hopefully, retailers and fans will forgive us these extra two weeks as we make sure that everything is in the shape it should be in for the extra-sized climax—and from there, it'll be smooth sailing straight into DARK REIGN."
David Gabriel, Marvel's Senior Vice President of Sales, added, "In speaking with retailers, Marvel decided it was more important to preserve the creative integrity of the series, rather than rush out the final issue. This not only creates a stronger product for our loyal readers, but also for our retailer partners, whose support helped make SECRET INVASION a huge success."

I just want it to be over.

I'm worn out by SI. I just want it to end. Almost this entire year, I've been buying two Avenger titles a month that have almost no Avengers in them, only Skrulls. If Dark Reign is something different than Skrulls, it won't be a Dark Reign, it will be a Ray of Hope. _________________ Loeb, do us all a favor and go back to DC!
I lost interest in Secret Invasion a long time ago. The entire event was insanely overhyped and all the tie-ins were essentially the same formula used repeatedly.
I'm just waiting to see the change in the status quo at this point. Hopefully, Marvel stops with all the massive events for a little while, but I don't see it happening as long as they keep selling... which they will, because a lot of fans can't stand to be "out of the loop" for a while.

True that. I've just learned this year the joy that comes from turning down a title you aren't pleased with. How many countless dollars have been wasted on stories fans aren't pleased with for the sake of staying "in the loop." Marvel.com + Wikipedia + borrowing from friends = In the Loop with Money Saved.

So... the Invasion story line leads right into a new massive event and what has at this point become the yearly shake up of the status quo? When the status quo changes EVERY YEAR the simple act of shaking things up becomes the status quo, and loses its impact.
I know Marvel is a business and their primary goal is to make profit, but they have a recent history of this very tactic causing major problems in a diminishment in the quality, and eventually sales, of their product.
This over-expansion (at the cost of the class of their core books) is what helped lead to the company having to declare bankruptcy in the 1990s (a time when the economy was booming, mind you), and I just don't understand how they can get stuck in the same rut year after year when so many talented writers are on their payroll.
As johnnysword pointed out, the recent downturn in the US and world economies probably means people will have LESS to spend on entertainment, and yet Marvel is once again going down the road of expanding beyond the means of their hired talent to cope. What really worries me is that the recent success of the Marvel Sci-Fi titles has put them in the sights of Marvel’s apparently inept marketing department, meaning the quality of that corner of the Marvel universe will probably break under the weight of hasty expansion of titles the Avengers and X-Men have suffered.
God, please don't let Marvel drive itself out of business again. Please please please!

Secret invasion was not on the level say of Civil War which I regretably passed on. I think the arc would do better as a avenger Movie.
But I did enjoy the story. Just to many tie -ins.

How true. I hope that after DR there is no event. Thing is, it still hasn't been cleared up whether or not Dark Reign is an actual event. All that has been said is that there is going to be DR banners on some comics. _________________ Scarlet Spider - "Say my name!" Spider-Man - "Okay...help me Scarlet Spider! I did that two actually. I thought that both titles were awsome at first. I
had alot of fun reading them. But as the months went by, I slowly lost interest in the SI tie-in. I'm looking forward to SI #8.

Well the whole SI story was boring. The only good stories where the tie-ins like Captain Britain, Thor, X-men and Fantastic four. Of all the Avenger books only the initiative was a nice read. I read and collect Avengers since early 80's and have almost every single issue. But since the dissassembled storyline there was no single issue I realy enjoyed. Never thought I would say it (the Avengers were allways my number one book but I will drop New Avengers The initiative. I Heard new writer is taking over the mighty Avengers so hopefully it will improve alot. Otherwise I drop it too. Dark Avengers and Dark reign not interested at all. Won't even try it. All those events of the last few years are to dissapointing. The Marvel Universe should shape up real fast cause standards are really dropping. I am still buying about 25 different titles each month (including limited series) But I won't be to surprised if with will be only 5 titles a month in 2009.
