"For me, fundamentally, that was what made Thor as much of a success as it was. You didn't have to read ten thousand other books to follow what was going on in Thor. It was self-contained, self-sufficient and self-directing. And people responded to that in a big way, judging from the sales and the emails and the blogs. I mean, if you look at Thor objectively, the book had very little action, and in some issues the title character wasn't even there. But it worked, and it worked gangbusters.

Of course, now that the Siege of Asgard Big Crossover Event is looming before me, I have to do some serious and hard thinking about the future."

Oh no...he all but suggested that he may consider leaving Thor because of unnecessary crossovers. Jeez, I hope this doesn't happen.

Don't worry...if he leaves..there is Jeph Loeb. Imagine the sells Thor gets with Loeb's stamp all over it. JMS basically told us Thor will be in another big event...which hinders him from progressing the story he wants to tell to the readers. He has balls and I like it...and every real die hard fan of comics understands him completely. He doesn't want to cheapen the image of Thor. But Marvel sees Thor's base as a mean to cash in. Big Events use not distrupt the series...but let the writer find a way and time to mention it if there character was in it. JMS has the right idea. He is the exact polar opposite of Loeb. He has morals. He was proably forced to feature DA in his comics..so can get ready to be in Dark Regin.

A Shadow over Thor . . .

This great comic: Thor, as written by J. Michael Straczynski (JMS), does not need to be in service to any Marvel Events, Crossovers or Tie-Ins--let the story stay a Thor story.

If the Marvel Editors want a Dark Reign: Thor to happen, let Matt Fraction write a mini-series about this latest event where Evil rules supreme--he gave us Secret Invasion: Thor--allowing JMS to tell his story.

As far as I am concerned, all these big Events, Crossovers and Tie-Ins are hurting the Comic Book Industry. They are failing to expand the customer/consumer base and placing a larger burden on the current fan base. As JMS wisely put it:

Quote:
"You didn't have to read ten thousand other books to follow what was going on in Thor. It was self-contained, self-sufficient and self-directing."

My friend who owned a Comic Book Store lost many of his customers because it was too much, and because collecting the entirety of said "Events, Crossovers and Tie-Ins" for Marvel, DC, etc., many Comic Savers went dead--canceled or abandoned! People did not want to buy anymore because the overall story would be incomplete or too expensive.

I hope that JMS remains, but if Marvel will not allow him to tell his stories, I will understand if he chooses to leave . . .

Forgive my anger, but my friend must now close his Comic Book Store and declare bankruptcy.

We can all only hope that our Thor series remains a Thor series and not be lost in Events, Crossovers or Tie-Ins . . .

I agree 100%. Tie-ins and special events have their place, but how in the world are base fans and/or newbies supposed to keep track of what's going when there are multiple events and tie-ins occurring simultaneously?

More importantly, why would a new fan want to come on board if he visits his local comic shop, flips through the pages of Thor, then notices that Thor is also in a special event; but wait!! Thor's also in another special event!; and just when a newbie is almost royally confused he looks up and see's him in Hulk's comic, the Avenger's comic, The new Avenger's comic, and the Dark Avenger's comic. So at this point, what's a newbie to do but say "screw it all to hell!!"

I'm no newbie and sometimes even I'm confused. We've all been there before, "where was Thor when this happened? "When the Dark Avengers showed up in Thor 600, was this before or after such and such???" These are the unnecessary questions and confusion which follows too many dang events and cross-overs!

I understand JMS' frustration, especially when his baby is at the mercy of other writers who have played absolutely no part in shaping and developing "this" current Thor. Thor as we know him is JMS' Thor, and I would be passed if any other writer, tie-in, or special event misrepresented JMS' brilliant work. NO artist wants his craft screwed with, plain and simple!

I'm just thinking JMS is reffering how he's going to go about the crossover.
We know he pretty much wanted to keep the first year Asgardians and the town the only story going in the main book so he could focus on that aspect and tie up past events such as Tony and Cap.
NOW that Thor has basically been forced out into the world and the Warriors Three soon to follow just tells ME that JMS is ready with the book to be involved with others, nothing else.
I don't think he'll leave yet and probably won't until after the movie IMO.

I'm hoping JMS stays around. He's building a very strong foundation for Thor now and I can see it being completely screwed if anyone else took it over.

Siege of Asgard crossover? The Asgardians are not even there now.... I guess they migrate back? Thor comes back? I expect quite a few more issues are necessary to set this one up.

I hope JMS stays, his Thor is fantastic and is the reason I´m in, I really like his Thor and another crossover is bad, why do that all the time, Thor will lose if JMS leaves, he is why Thor is so great these days, I hope it´s not happen to avoid his departure.
