Every year, the heavy-hitters of the videogame industry showcase their upcoming games for the following year (and beyond!) at the Electronic Entertainment Expo – commonly referred to as E3. As usual, it was a big year for Marvel games, as four publishers featured Marvel titles prominently.
Part of Activision's huge booth included the trailer for "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2" looped and repeatedly wowing passersby. Stan Lee even stopped by to autograph some comics and do some interviews, and there was a line to see a 15-minute demo hosted by the game's production team. The game comes out this September for all major platforms.
Coming this fall to Nintendo systems, "Marvel Super Hero Squad" was playable on the show floor at THQ's booth in Wii form. Based on the toy line and upcoming animated series sensation, the game proved to be a big hit with all who played it, women and men alike. Players could fill the shoes (or, in some cases, bare feet) of their favorite Super Hero in single-player Adventure mode or multiplayer Battle mode.
This summer, Capcom brings back a fighting-game classic – "Marvel vs. Capcom 2"! The game was featured as part of a montage of upcoming Capcom releases on a huge screen in the company's booth, and those anxious to get their hands on it before its re-release had a chance to play, complete with premium joysticks. The game is available for download soon on Xbox Live Arcade and PS3's PlayStation Network.
Also in attendance was Gazillion. Though the company had nothing to show at this point, they will likely make a huge splash in E3s to come with upcoming massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) based on the Marvel Universe and Super Hero Squad.
