And here we have Kraven the Hunter...hands down, my favorite early Spider-Villain! This issue was great, showing the many tricks and methods Kraven uses in his hunt, that make him so dangerous. Notice, that he had his strength increased...and yet never pitted it against Spider-Man directly, always using something else to assist him. His strength was just another asset. In the end, once Spider-Man had a few moments to think, he neutralized most of Kravens traps and set up a few himself. Kraven still underestimated him in the end. But it was a rather close encounter, a more potent drug, a second set of handcuffs, a different kind of bell...and the fight would've continued longer.

  • In this issue, we have the first mention of Mary Jane, although she won't appear for the first time until Amazing Spider-Man #25. Peter was supposed to see Mary Jane on a blind date, but she canceled due to a bad headache. However, it will later be revealed that the "headache" was merely an excuse.
  • The cover of this issue is one of the 32 that appear in the comic collection from the 2000 video game Spider-Man.
