BANGKOK – Frightened on his first day of school on Tuesday, an eight-year-old autistic boy crawled out onto a third floor ledge in Bangkok and refused to come in despite the pleas of his teachers.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the boy's mother mentioned her son's love of super heroes. This gave firefighter Somchai Yoosabai the idea that would ultimately turn the situation around.
Somchai was able to convince the child to come off the ledge after changing into the
Spider-Man costume that he keeps in his locker to wear during school fire drills. The boy immediately stood up and walked into the arms of Spider-Man, his trusted hero.
