Chilly, drizzly weather didn't deter droves of Marvel fans who came out in full force last night for the first ever MarvelFest NYC!

With the world premiere of Marvel's newest Motion Comic, ASTONISHING X-MEN, displayed on a three story tall screen outside the former Virgin Megastore, fans of all ages invaded Union Square to catch a comic book experience unlike anything ever seen before. A costume contest, giveaways, creator signings and so much more: proving once again that the Marvel Universe really is, "Your Universe."

Meanwhile, the ASTONISHING X-MEN Motion Comic quickly jumped up the iTunes best-seller list in the U.S. placing #3 for overall TV Shows and #2 in animation! Available on iTunes right now (in both the U.S. and Canada), the ASTONISHING X-MEN Motion Comic arrives hot on the heels of the iTunes best-seller SPIDER-WOMAN: Agent of S.W.O.R.D.

Chris Claremont and Neal Adams signing at Forbidden Planet in NYC
At MarvelFest NYC, the first stop for many attendees was local comic shop Forbidden Planet. There, ASTONISHING X-MEN Motion Comic Co-Director Neal Adams, along with comic legends Chris Claremont (UNCANNY X-MEN, X-MEN FOREVER) and Dan Slott (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN), met with a gaggle of excited fans during a busy and awesome sigining session.

As the countdown to the premiere rolled on, the festivities really took off at Union Square. Artists Reilly Brown (CABLE & DEADPOOL), Paolo Rivera (MARVEL MYTHOS), Dennis Calero (X MEN NOIR) and Jacob Chabot (X-BABIES) signed autographs while costumed fans lined up to get ready for the contest. Writer Frank Tieri (WOLVERINE) rounded out the list of attending talent while Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada presided over matters-both in person and from the huge screen while introducing the ASTONISHING X-MEN premiere!

Captain America, winner of the MarvelFest costume contest
With special guest judge Scott Adsit from NBC's "30 Rock" on hand, the Marvel costume contest got underway with some amazing entries. Costumes included pirate Deadpool, old school Power Man, '90s-era Bishop and a Peter Parker whose spider-sense was definitely tingling and MANY more, but it was a Bucky Barnes Captain America that took first place.

When Darkness fell over Union Square and the time for the premiere had arrived, fans cheered wildy as the X-Men took center stage above the busy streets of New York City. Written by fan-favorite Joss Whedon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and featuring art by superstar John Cassaday (CAPTAIN AMERICA), the Motion Comic's world premiere turned MarvelFest NYC into truly a groundbreaking event.
