Rogue's past will catch up to her in more ways than one with the return of Destiny, Magneto and Proteus, as writer Mike Carey and artist Clay Mann bring the X-Necrosha storyline to X-MEN: LEGACY with issue #231 on December 23.
"[X-Necrosha] is a huge arc, dark and epic, or maybe the right word is mythic," relates Carey of the larger storyline that also runs through X-FORCE and NEW MUTANTS. "Like Pandora's box being opened, and everything you never wanted to face again tumbling right out."

"My take on [Rogue and Destiny's relationship] is that there is and always has been a fierce love and loyalty between them," remarks Carey. "We saw in Messiah CompleX that Destiny had created a very complex mechanism to heal Rogue after the touch of the Hecatomb had sent her into coma. She's always wanted to protect Rogue, but since she doesn't have the obsessive and controlling personality that Mystique has, she did it in subtle and indirect ways."
As for how Rogue will react to seeing Destiny alive again, Carey says fans will have to wait a few months in order to see the heartfelt reunion.
"You'll have to wait until #233 for an answer to that," teases the writer. "That's when they finally get a moment to talk. I think it's fair to say that Rogue's feelings towards Destiny are still uncomplicated. To see her again is an incredible, unlooked-for blessing, but circumstances alter cases. Let's just say it's bittersweet."

"Is anybody equipped to deal with Proteus?" poses Carey. "This is a mutant who can possess your mind and body with a single touch and alter reality just by thinking about it. In some ways he's the most formidable opponent the X-Men have ever faced. As to what he's after, he's tried death and it didn't work. Now he's got a plan B."
Now that Rogue's one-time lover Magneto has returned to the X-Men's world, the two will share a reunion in this X-Necrosha tie-in as well.
"With Magneto back in the X-Men fold, it was inevitable that he and Rogue would meet again, and-sooner or later-be in the same team," notes Carey. "The question is whether anything beyond that still exists between them, and it's fair to say that Rogue and Magneto see the situation somewhat differently from each other. But yeah, there are sparks waiting to fly here, in good ways and bad ways."

"The stakes are about to change for the youngest X-Men, and Rogue is going to be thrown into some situations that will test every last atom of her courage and compassion."
