Not sure if the last comment posted so I'll try again. We had a similar underwhelming celebration at our local shop for Avengers day, but was worse was finally reviewing the new Avengers launch. Despite the obvious warnings in the previews leading up to the relaunch we here at the Ninja Nation (www.comicsninja.com) had high hopes for the series since we are huge Avengers fans and enjoy Bendis' writing. Unfortunately, the new artwork by Romita, Jr. is so cartoony it appears the series is aimed at the 5-10 year old set. We had to employ our Ninja skills and read the issue in the shadows so nobody would catch us reading this kiddy book in public. Usually I will give a series a couple of issues before deciding upon whether to stick with it but I think I'll try maybe one issue further and that is about it. From the input I received from other members of the Ninja Nation it appears that others may be abandoning the series even quicker. The Comics Ninja www.comicsninja.com

I took a bus to the other side of town because my local shop wasn't on the list of "participating retailers" I took my daughter because I thought there would be something cool like on "Free Comic Book Day" when Optimus Prime and Bumblebee joined the festivities. Nothing. 2 Variants were priced at 15 bucks and the one I wanted with Captain America on the cover was "not ready to be sold". I bought Avengers #1 with the regular cover and a couple of comics for my kid and called it a day. Not what I was expecting.
