Iron Man: Invincible Artists

The dynamic draftsmen responsible for the visual end of Invincible Iron Man #500

By Ben Morse

So far this week, we’ve already give you two reasons that can’t be ignored to grab INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500 on January 19, those being the return of The Mandarin and the death of Tony Stark. Now we said we’d be picking a grand total of five reasons over five days from the practically infinite list from which we had to draw.

We lied.

Because today we’re packing in seven reasons you can’t miss INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500: the amazing array of artistic talent assembled for this once-in-a-lifetime issue!

But enough on this end; let’s turn things over to our master of ceremonies and the editor of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN Alejandro Arbona to introduce the ace art team and show off their astounding work…

Nathan Fox & Javier Rodriguez

“Nathan Fox’s vibrant sensibility is incredibly breakneck and reckless, in the best way possible. His lines and figures throb, quake and pant; and in telling the story of Tony’s son Howard—aka War Machine, leader of the Mandarin’s elite squad of Raiders—Nathan’s chapters are, aptly enough, some of the most violent, chaotic and explosive sequences in the book. Nathan makes this trigger-happy character downright elegant in his brutishness.”

“Look at this page, are you kidding me?! Look at this page! I think I’ve worked with Kano on more projects than almost any other one artist, and I’ve been amazed when he came to each job with a new leap ahead in his style. No two Kano books have ever been alike and on each one he’s been miles ahead of the last. Now, what are we looking at, story-wise? The hero in this page is Ginny Stark, Tony’s granddaughter, and a member of a rebel insurgency called the Black Widows. And that giant metal monster is one of the ills that plague the future…look familiar?”

Carmine Di Giandomenico & Matt Wilson

“As far as the all-time greatest Iron Man vs. Mandarin showdowns, this one looks pretty run-down, doesn’t it? Both characters are in really strange places in the future, really strange circumstances. Mandarin is the emperor of the world, and Tony Stark is his pet pig. But as you can see here, this is one pig that may have finally had enough.”

Salvador Larroca & Frank D’Armata

“Way back when in the days of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #7, Iron Man and Spider-Man teamed up, and it was a hugely, insanely enjoyable issue. Matt Fraction writes some great chemistry between them, and Salvador Larroca just makes them so damn fun to look at. We’ve always wanted to get back to an Iron Man/Spidey story, and with INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500 we finally did!”

Come back tomorrow and every day this week for more reasons to read INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500! And be sure to watch the INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500 trailer!
