This week, with the “War of the Four Cities” kicking off in FF #4, we thought you could use a little extra info on the aforementioned principalities and the extraordinary events that transpire within.
After searching the length and breadth of the seven seas, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Atlantis’ Avenging Son, finally rediscovers his underwater kingdom. Suddenly once peaceful waves teem with ferocious oceanic nightmares and Marvel’s First Family finds itself captured by Namor and his amazing aquatic servants. His royal personage wants the FF to deliver a message to the United Nations: The oceans of the world, and everything in them, now belong solely to the Sub-Mariner!
The Great Refuge—better known as the Inhuman city of Attilan—contains wonders no mere mortal could possibly comprehend. However, the Fantastic Four live on the edge of adventure, where myth, magic, science, and reality blur into something spectacular and thus stand at least relatively unfazed by the strangeness of the hidden city. The Inhumans’ king, Maximus the Magnificent, hides dark designs from the rest of Attilan’s Royal Family and unless the FF and Black Bolt’s brethren can stop him, Earth may never be the same!
Deep in the bowels of the Wundagore Mountains exists a place of science so strange that even the Mighty Thor stands aghast. The Thunderer’s search for the lovely Jane Foster leads him to Wundagore, where without provocation bizarre knights in full armor attack him from on high. Unable to contain the son of Odin’s fury, the knights reveal themselves as New-Men, the half man/half animal servants of the High Evolutionary! What does the master geneticist want from Thor and Jane Foster—and will they live long enough to find out?
In the Negative Zone there exists a planet half covered by a gleaming city barren of a populace. Its once happy people now cling to the outskirts of their enclosed Ootah, hoping to someday regain their homes within its fabled walls. The Fantastic Four discover this world while on a jaunt through that mythic underverse and agree to help the people find a way to retake their birthright. Will they be able to navigate Ootah’s deadly defense mechanisms and save the day?
The Mole Man rarely emerges from his subterranean kingdom, but when he does it usually spells disaster for whichever city happens to find itself burrowed into. This time, he comes to New York, but for the Fantastic Four’s help. Some of his minions stumbled upon the hidden underground city of the High Evolutionary and transformed into more intelligent creatures. They want to raise the city to the surface but that act threatens to cause massive seismic disturbances and put the entire world in jeopardy. Can the FF stop them in time?
