Unlimited Highlights: Sabretooth

Five pivotal moments in the life of Wolverine's greatest foe!

By Ben Chabala

Every week we'll pick a handful of awesome comics from the thousands available through Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited. From creator spotlights to editor's picks and more, this'll be your spot to find something new and cool.

Sabretooth made his rabid return in WOLVERINE #310, and to supplement his inevitable increasing body count, we’re bringing you five sensational stories swollen with viscera, courtesy of the one and only Victor Creed.

IRON FIST #14 (1975)

Danny Rand finds himself in Canada, kidnapped alongside his friend Colleen Wing by the sadistic Sabretooth. The feral fiend wants the heroes out of the picture so he can flambé their friend Jeryn Hogarth in peace. Jeryn’s been sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong and someone hired Victor Creed to slice it off, unless Iron Fist can free himself and save the day. The first appearance of the psychotic Sabretooth!

WOLVERINE #10 (1988)

Wolverine prowls Madripoor’s sordid streets, his memories more vivid than the bar brawl exploding around him. In a different time, he’s carrying the lifeless body of Silver Fox. Sabretooth killed her, did it just to hurt the runt, to goad him into a fight he can’t win. And fight they do, through the forest, up a mountain, off a mountain; the two bestial brawlers tear at each other with tooth and claw, a frenzy of fur and fangs and blood. But who will emerge the victor after the snow settles?

In the wake of the Morlock Massacre the X-Men’s home becomes ground zero for the fallout, sheltering dozens of mutants caught up in the crossfire between Xavier’s chosen and Sinister’s Marauders. Unfortunately for the helpless victims fighting for their lives in hospital beds, Sabretooth’s coming to finish what he started in the tunnels and paint the mansion red. Can the untested Betsy Braddock check this madman’s bloodlust until the X-Men get back, or will Creed claim a few more heads for his collection?

X-MEN #189

Who, or what, could scare Sabretooth so bad he goes to the X-Men for help? They call themselves the Children of the Vault, homo superior’s supposed successor, and they wiped the floor with Creed once already. Sabretooth’s the only person who’s seen them and lived, something the Children mean to rectify right quick, no matter where he hides. Will this be curtains for one of the world’s most accomplished assassins?

WOLVERINE #55 (2003)

Out of control, a creature of pure killer instinct, Sabretooth needs to be put down, and Wolverine’s just the guy to do it. Armed with the Muramasa Blade, an ancient samurai sword created to negate an opponent’s healing factor, Logan heads out into the cold to finally finish off his most dogged foe. But will even the legendary weapon be enough to cope with Creed’s rancor? Can anyone stand against this murderous monster?
