what is the deal with the last couple of days???? sometimes when i try to go to the list of digital comics NOTHING comes up and it says error on page for some reason..most of the time it works but usually not around night time...is that maybe because they're working on the site at that time? also why is it that most of the comics on here dont have the final or LATEST issues??? also how often do they add new comics on here? i just subscribed recently so im kinda new to this site and its GREAT to finally be able to catch up on issues that i've read and ones that i've missed.. i've filled many a plot-hole since subscribing! KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK and until Ghost Rider starts wearing a tutu MAKE MINE MARVEL!!!

I love the smart panels only they don't seem to work as well in the older comics. Sometimes it helps to jog forward and then back again immediately in order to "center" the smart panel properly. I have found that it works best for me in Opera (tried IE, Firefox, and Chrome), of all things.

[quote@quickben One good thing I've noticed is that in smart panel mode it doesn't cut off the bottom of the page anymore. You used to lose a whole line of text at the bottom with the old reader and would have to switch to full page or single page to see the text.
Yeah, now they cut off on the right side, instead - at least with a lot of older comics (try Uncanny X-men #27, for instance)... Great improvement =)

Good news! The link was fixed by the next day, and I have been enjoying this beautiful "Astonishing Tales: Snowbird" story ever since. Thank you, Marvel!

I am a new subscriber to Marvel Digital Comics. Since yesterday, I have been trying to read the "Astonishing Tales: Snowbird" story, but have been unable to do so. All I get is "Loading...loading...loading...loading", but nothing comes up. I sent an e-mail to Marvel for help, and received a reply that they were going to look into it, but nothing has happened so far. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

So far the comics not downloading is very upsetting. You should be able to click to the next comic like the 2.0 version used to let you.

The new reader is a terrible memory hog. It's completely unusable on my computer with only 256 MB of RAM, where it takes over a minute to move from one page to the next. 256 MB may not be much memory by today's standards, but it should be more than enough to run a program for reading comics . Considering that this program does nothing but download and display static images, there's absolutely no reason for it to be using as much memory as it does; the old reader certainly didn't need that much.

I've tried for the last three hours trying to get any of the digitized comics to load and all I get from this "new" reader is "loading" and "loading" going on forever. If this is supposed to be an improvement, I'm not impressed with it. Those of you who are experiencing the same thing, have you gotten any help for it? Is it a matter of changing computer settings? If anyone can help, please advise.

I'm so happy that word balloons line up correctly and go where they're supposed to go and lines aren't jagged when you zoom in. Now I'm FINALLY ACTUALLY considering subbing for a whole year (plus, I have a discount code which helps).

This new interface works very well for me. I haven't had any of the issues stated above (excpet the arrow key thing). For me its a great improvement over 2.0. I do wish there was a way to view comics on the iPhone though.Marvel Digital Comics brought me back to reading comics again, without having to fight with the wife over storing already read issues...The two things I ask for would be more consistency in digitizing back issues and an easier way to keep track of issues we've already read.

It's the death of a thousand cuts with all the nagging bugs, and the lack of quality control is appalling. But I've subscribed since December of 2007, and in that time I doubt there's been a day I've spent less than 2 hours a day reading comics. At your grumpiest moment you can still always find something great to read. You grin and bear the flaws because the price is right and the library is so easy to get lost in. While I continue to wish for smoother service and more comics, I know I'd deprive myself of too much pleasure if I quit.

Yeah the look is good but we're being provided with all form and no substance - I can only read a couple of issues, the others just don't load and based on past history with MCDU technical support this is the way it's going to stay for a nice long while. It seems like they're addressing issues with each individual issue rather than the overall problem. I really doubt I'll be renewing my subscription at this point.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this thing blows? They should have never launched it without working all the bugs out of the system. The old version may have it's flaws, but at least I could READ all the comics they put up there. Now I'm lucky if I get to read 2 out of the 5 new ones posted daily. Just because it looks cooler, doesn't mean it's better. Bring back the old version!

It's like they really didn't try to fix any of the problems with 2.0.They just put a fresh coat of brightly colored paint over it and hoped we wouldn't notice. But we can't help but notice.

Not an improvement in my opinion. Comics don't open, comics don't load, the loader crashes midway through reading etc. Hope they sort it all out soon.

if this is the way the new reader is going to work, I'm really going to miss 2.0. At least with that one if an issue didn't open up it might the next day, and even that problem was rare. The way things are going I can't get more than 1 issue in five to open properly most days. It's been what? A week? since they launched this. You'd think that'd be enough time to address at least the biggest errors on this thing. *sigh* I just wanna read comics and be a nerd...

[quote:a9eabe523e="Bobcat Zoidberg"]You can't use the keyboard arrow keys to navigate from page to page in single page mode, nor can you use your mouse wheel to move the screen up and down - as you could with the previous version. And I've run across a number of issues that won't open on first try, an error 009? appears. Anyone else see these problems?
I hear you on using the arrows and mouse wheel to navigate single page. To me, "smart panels" still feel sluggish and not very well blocked on some titles, so I mainly use single page, as I'm in a widescreen and it's the best fit for readability vs zoom level. Keyboard navigation must return to this mode, it makes a world of difference, from intuitive navigation just resting the keyboard in my lap to having to keep a hand on the mouse. It would be even better if I could turn pages with an easier click (*cough*spacebar*cough*), but I liked what we had.Otherwise, the annoying alignment bug of word balloons seems to be mostly fixed, I love the new fullscreen mode (particularly because Firefox used to refuse to go fullscreen if the first page had finished loading) and the new look is smooth. I used to be really pissed that I, as a paying customer, was getting a worse reading experience than the guys who pirate-download their comics in JPGS to read with dedicated software. This is a step in the right direction to make me renew my account when it expires. Now give me back my keyboard navigation and start making some sense in the way comics are entered in the system (i.e. stop skipping issues, improve regularity, ensure chronological order in updates) and you may have a subscriber here for a long time.

Tweaks have been made. All the comics that are supposed to be up appear to be working, and the reading experience is much smoother.

A couple of things that I miss from the previous versions:Navigating between pages using the keyboard in the two page layout is gone.Navigating between issues within a series is now more work.Otherwise, the new interface looks pretty nice, though.

I'm sure they're still working out the kinks, but I've found the performance to be more sluggish than 2.0. Sometimes it sails along and sometimes it literally takes minutes for the page to turn. And moving from from one issue to the next in the same series, which was simple and convenient in 2.0, is a bear in 3.0.It used to be click and you're there. Now it's like click, click, click, cross your fingers, click, click....

All I get when I try to open up comics with the new reader is a black screen. I've contacted the service about this, and they sent one e-mail asking for some of my computer information two days ago, and that was it. I'm hoping they're still working out some bugs and that I'll be able to access comics again soon.

Actually, this reader doesn't work as well as the old one for me. First, I'm not very into the whole flashiness of the thing, the old one was more unobtrusive. for instance, the old page navigator was way more discreet and usable, the new "thumbnails" thing takes up most of the screen. And what's worse, on some comics (for instance, the old #1-63 issues of X-men) the focusing becomes completely off. In each focused frame (in "smart panels" mode), the rightmost 1-2 cm are outside the window, not shown. They are just cut off. This was never the case with the old reader. And since there are only 2 zoom levels...I just wish I could choose to use the old one instead...

I love the smoothness and the new zoom is much better. However I can't find a button to move to the next or previous issue. So far it has been loading faster which is great.

i would happily pay more - i want a itunes-like source where i can pay to download marvel comics to my computer the day they are released. it would be great if it were through the already established MDCU. i don't live close to a comic book store and don't have room in my house to store all of my comics. i subscribe to a few marvel comics now, but would buy more if they were available for download as they are released.
