by Jim Beard The Earth's only big enough for one jolly green goliath, right? Think again, Hulk fans! Rampaging through the pages of SKAAR: SON OF HULK this May comes the Marvel Universe's latest and greatest smackdown, Planet Skaar. Writer Greg Pak, perhaps the best friend the Hulk's ever had, clues us into the smashing set-up: "We're throwing the Son of Hulk smack dab into the middle of the Marvel Universe -- and head-to-head with dear old Dad," claims the Pak-man. "The result will be cataclysmic changes and massive emotional repercussions for father and son -- as well as mind-bending reverberations with potentially seismic effects on the wider world." Skaar, the son of the Hulk, who as Pak says "was born in fire, raised by monsters, tortured by madmen, and hunted by barbarians," blames his old man for his current situation on the planet Sakaar. See, it's written that Skaar's destined to clash with the Hulk one fine day – but first he's got to get to Earth somehow. "I can't reveal too much for fear of spoiling the insane ending of SKAAR: SON OF HULK #10," explains Pak in regards to the character's traversing the stars. "Let's just say that Skaar's departure from Sakaar has more in common with the beginning of Planet Hulk than the beginning of World War Hulk." Upon arriving on Earth – what will be the green-skinned warrior's ultimate end-game? "Once on Earth, Skaar's number one objective will be to find his father," Pak explains. "But whether he's planning on bonding or smashing remains to be seen...and Skaar will arrive on Earth the same way he arrived on savage Sakaar -- utterly alone. Dontcha just weep for the poor li'l guy?" A punishing PLANET SKAAR: PROLOGUE precedes the main thrust in SKAAR: SON OF HULK #11, one that Pak says will set the stage for Skaar's "nine point six on the hell-or-high-water scale" attitude throughout the tale. "As Skaar finally descends upon the puny mudball known as Earth, Reed Richards realizes he has only hours to prevent a possibly catastrophic father-son reunion," says Pak of the prologue. "It's a great jumping on point for new readers and an action packed, emotionally charged introduction to the madness and mayhem of Planet Skaar. "Even though he's never met anyone involved in the event, World War Hulk has shaped Skaar's entire life and will continue to affect him once he arrives on Earth. Believing his son was dead, the Hulk left Sakaar to wage World War Hulk. Now, as Skaar arrives on Earth, the reactions of the Marvel heroes will absolutely be colored by their vivid and painful memories of what the Hulk did during World War Hulk. Sins of the father..." Promising guest-stars such as the aforementioned Reed Richards, the Fantastic Four, the Sensational She-Hulk, the Warbound and others, Planet Skaar, its prologue and kick-off in SKAAR: SON OF HULK #11 mean mucho trouble for our little blue marble – and just remember, its all Greg Pak's fault. "It's wide open as Skaar slashes right into the heart of the Marvel Universe," he proclaims of the final results of the series. "Anything's possible now, True Believers!"
