You wanted it, you got it! For the first time in history, Marvel Digital Comics—featuring classic and select, digital-first titles only—are going portable!

Digital Comic Carousel on PSP
Today at gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced the digital reader for PSPTM (PlayStation®Portable), a new service that will allow PSP owners to access a range of media on their PSP. The digital reader service will be launched with Digital Comics this December, putting PSP owners in control of a huge library of Digital Comics from several provider partners including—you guessed it,  Marvel!

This new Digital Comics service will let you download classic and select, digital-first comics from Marvel at PlayStation®Store to your PSP—to read page by page or frame by frame wherever you are. The service lets you take a huge collection of comics out and about with you, allows you to pick up the latest digitized editions from any Wi-Fi hotspot, and gives you a brand-new way to use your PSP for entertainment on the go.

Digital Comics Details on PSP
The digital reader for PSPTM will offer content from Marvel that includes Spider-Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four (and so many others!) whilst other content will include graphic novels, comics from a variety of local publishers and the latest underground sensations.  More and more titles will arrive on PlayStation Store with monthly content updates, offering a huge choice of quality titles at your fingertips, allowing you to take your favorite comic characters with you on the move.

"This is a great new service that offers PSP owners even more options for entertainment on the go and makes PSP a must for comics fans," says Isabelle Tomatis, European Marketing Manager, Hardware and Platforms, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
"Digital comics will sit alongside the new PlayStation®Network video download service as yet another way that PSP offers a whole world of entertainment in your hands."

Digital Comic Bookmark on PSP
"PSP's new digital reader offers an unprecedented consumer experience that will extend the world of Marvel from print pages into the hands of fans around the world. We are excited to be part of this launch," said Ira Rubenstein, executive vice president, global digital media group, Marvel Entertainment.

The intuitive Autoflow feature allows you to zoom in and move from frame to frame on each digital page, mimicking the way your eyes would move across a print page from left to right. It's straightforward and simple to use, and thanks to the improved, backlit screen technology of PSP®go and PSP-3000, your comics will be looking better than ever as the stunning graphics leap out from the screen.

Digital Comic Bookmarks on PSP

Digital Comics will be launching on the UK, US, Irish, Australian, New Zealand and South African PlayStation® Stores this December, with other PAL territories to follow, and with more and more comics and graphic novels arriving every month. To find out more, visit www.eu.playstation.com.

Sweet. I knew the PSP would come in handy eventually. LOL. Sigh.

It's one of the most popular software platforms currently and a huge income maker, PLUS on a personal note, it would be the only format I'd have time to read the comics. I've already read 6 books on the iPhone Kindle app (flawless app if you ask me and a good model to follow for ease of acquiring content) and I would eat up Digital Comics. It would be so fun to revisit older comics, etc. Even if you just offered your current offerings it would be fantastic. Please note that if you make an app that refers you to the website for purchasing then you need a slick mobile version of your website (again, like amazon.com has). I just logged onto your site via my iPhone and it looks like you don't have this. Thanks folks! I'm sure the millions of iPhone users appreciate your consideration. :x-men:

Too much whining here, LOL.Way I see it, the opportunity for the PSP came first. I think this is something Sony started, since Marvel is not the only one who will take part in this.If this works well, then you will most likely get what you want, comics on other devices. This is a good thing for many people, even for those who seem to be against it, even if they don't notice it.Besides, that Marvel has not announced anything yet does not mean they do not have plans to release comics for iPhone, too. Remember, good things come to those who wait for them.

OK, I just bought the Spider-Woman motion comic on iTunes yet no iPhone app is coming out? This makes no sense...

Really disapponted that Marvel have chosen to launch on PSP. God knows what kind of consultation they had with actual readers cos I can't see how the PSP could have been more popular than iTouch/Phone. Sony must have a controlling interest here because why else would Marvel buck the trend. Very disapointing. And if the PSP version is a flop the chances of further development for Apple users can only get slimer.Have to agree with the glitches mentioned too on the existing format. I love my unlimited subscription more than a lot of things - but it could be so much better if someone actually thought to acknowledge the issues.

I just recently purchased a PSP. I would love to see this happen but they haven't really said what type of engine they are using. I would love to see ULTIMATE secrets and extinction added.I am interested to know how much this will all cost. Will I buy a UMD containing the software and a free month? Will I buy the Marvel digital comics package and have the option to download it to PSP format? Or will it be much more complicated using the crap PSP store to purchase one comic at a time. I say this it is crap because I have to load £10 or £20 of credit so there will always be money unspent. A waste of money if you ask me.I would much rather Marvel just encourage people to use their service with the option of downloading PSP format comics, and downloading a small patch to use the comics on the PSP.If they really wanted to go all out, release a UMD with everything you need on there, release it as part of a game or something.

To echo and elaborate upon what acslaterson said, a lot more people have iPhones and iTouches than PSP's. Second, most people that I know that have an iPhone use their iPhone pretty much as their computer (like myself), and would definitely subscribe to Marvel DCU if it was made available for the iPhone/Touch.I say we start a petition thread to get MDCU as an iPhone app. Agree?

Here's what I'd like to see for mobile comics... How about publishing some of those b&w anthology books on a kindle? The Kindle would be perfect for reading those.

Weak! No iPhone App? I know more people that read comics that have iPhone or iTouches then PSPs.

I wish Marvel focused more energy on improving the quality of Marvel Digital Comics first before they started franchising it to other parties. It's still pretty buggy. And you should add more titles.10 a day instead of 5 a day would be a nice start.
