Beginning this November, Tony Stark will have a severe case of Whiplash.

Before the highly-anticipated "Iron Man 2" hits the big screen on May 7, 2010, fans can learn more about one of the film's major villains in the four-part IRON MAN VS WHIPLASH limited series taking flight on November 4 from writers Marc Guggenheim and Brannon Bragga, with art by Philippe Briones.

Though longtime fans have seen Shellhead and Whiplash face off a number of times, Guggenheim promises they haven't seen a battle quite like this before.

"This is a new Whiplash for a new millennium," touts the writer. "Marvel forced us to say that. Really. Okay, well, not really, but we do get a bonus from Marvel for saying it. This is a brand new character."

In addition to updating Whiplash and plugging a new man into the classic identity, the series will bring the villain closer in line with Mickey Rourke's portrayal in "Iron Man 2."

Looking at the differences between Tony Stark and Anton Vanko, the writers reflect that little more than circumstances separate the two.

"Iron Man always seems to attract the tech-based villains and Whiplash is no exception," notes Guggenheim. "However, our 'all new, all different' Whiplash brings a new element to the equation because he's basically a young Tony Stark-if Tony Stark grew up amidst poverty and war. In other words, he's Tony's path not taken. He's the 'cracked mirror' version of Tony."

Iron Man will have more trouble to deal with beyond Vanko, however.

"As the first issue opens, Tony is wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court," reveals Guggenheim.

"You'll be seeing a new foe, a new addition to Tony's rogues gallery, the Iron Axis," adds Bragga.

With all this and more coming Shellhead's way, Guggenheim's final tease for the "Iron Man 2" lead in should come as no surprise:

"We're looking to bring Tony to his breaking point. And maybe even beyond."

the new miniseries sounds like a great idea. It'll be a good way to introduce and reintroduce Whiplash to a new audience. My question is though how much of the iron Man movie storyline is going to be introduced through the miniseries and how much of the original storyline of the comics will be referenced. I've never read an Iron Man story with whiplash in it so I'd just like to know what I'm in for? What do the rest of you Mighty Marvel fans think?
