This October, the newly crowned Sorcerer Supreme finds himself at the forefront of the Marvel Universe!

In the finale to our three-part look behind the scenes of DOCTOR VOODOO: AVENGERS OF THE SUPERNATURAL #1, Marvel.com chats with series scribe Rick Remender about why he's so excited about the series and the mysteries behind Doctor Voodoo's forbidden tools.

Marvel.com: Doctor Strange wouldn't use the Lost Spirits of Shuma Gorath, but Voodoo doesn't have these objections.  What are these spirits and where did they come from?

Rick Remender: They were created by Shuma-Gorath on an Unreal Earth. We'll learn in the series that Jericho's biggest weakness is the Unreal. Most magic is weak against it and it's where guys like Nightmare get their power. Unreal ghosts are used to protect Voodoo's Scrying Stones watchdog station.

Marvel.com: Wait--watchdog station?  What does Jericho use these Scrying Stones to see exactly?

Rick Remender: The thing about the stones is that you can use them to view anything-any deity, any demon, any magic user. But if they were to detect you, they could view you or even use the stones to come to Earth. That's a big deal in magic town. The boundaries blocking other dimensions from our own are like Earth's electromagnetic field: it keeps us alive.

Marvel.com: Who is Doctor Voodoo keeping an eye on that could possibly use the stones against the Sorcerer Supreme?

Rick Remender: Well, Jericho is watching the big guys: Dormammu, Mephisto, Blackheart, Doom and a ton of other dimensional types. This leads to the first misuse of the stones. Doctor Doom has been after the Eye of Agamotto for years and in the first issue he finally gets it. It's a game-changer!

Marvel.com: I guess things don't look good for the new guy on the job as the Sorcerer Supreme may have bitten off more than he can chew.  Is there anything else you want to say about the first issue?

Rick Remender: The first issue is 28 full pages of story and it's loaded with other good business. Art is by Jefte Palo and Jean-Francois Beaulieu who deliver some of the best pages I've been associated with; they are a team supreme. DOCTOR VOODOO: AVENGER OF THE SUPERNATURAL #1 is a lot of what I love about comics-everyone must try it.
