Marvel Unleashes Iron Man's New Armor

Marvel is proud to unveil a new look for Iron Man, signaling a new era for Tony Stark and the Marvel Universe! From the minds of Eisner Award-winning series writer Matt Fraction and Ryan Meinerding, designer on the "Iron Man" and "Thor" films, comes the most bleeding edge, out of this world armor you've ever seen! Following the sold-out "Stark Disassembled" storyline, the Marvel Universe still needs its armored champion and a new mission requires a new kind of armor! But when you see just what Iron Man has planned for the Marvel Universe, your jaw will be on the floor! There's never been a super hero like the new Iron Man!

"The inspiration for the new design came from thinking about a sleeker, leaner, tougher Iron Man," revealed Fraction. "If technology is increasingly getting smaller and lighter it seems like the Iron Man should do the same: ergonomic and aerodynamic. We were looking for something that felt as sleek and glossy as a sports car Tony Stark would covet. I love what we've come up with. It feels like the next evolutionary step in the Iron Man's design."

A bold new direction for Iron Man starts here with the perfect jumping on point for readers old and new alike, as the all-new Iron Man makes his debut in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #25, on-sale this April!

The Best armor ever that armor rock

Best Armor so far. Definitely don't think it needs shoulder pads/ armor, that would defeat the point of streamlining it. This suit is supposed to look more organic since it is a part of tony now. So less bulging parts..aka overlapping plates and shoulder pads. =)

I enjoy reading Invincible Iron Man and this armor looks very interesting. From what i can tell it looks like they're getting rid of the distinction between the different parts of the armor and like they said make it look sleeker

The new armor... Can't say that I like it.I was happy when the poster for Siege came out and they used the Extremis armor design. But this? It really needs work.IMO, there is 2 things it needs: 1. Less yellow. 2. Some kind of shoulder armor.I can accept the helmet, and the lights all over the armor. But it needs all the yellow that isn't on the thigh, or biceps turned to red. And then something added to the shoulders. But maybe we'll get lucky... Outside of the actual Iron Man comics, almost no artist ever seems to draw any of the armors correctly... or use a different armor altogether. I can't count how many times the "Modern" suit showed up while Tony was supposed to be using Extremis. Not to mention Osborns Iron Patriot armor, or War Machines armor, suddenly getting Movie Make-overs.And here I was fearing they were just going to give Tony the movie Mk VI armor... I'd prefer that over this.

Makes me want to get Invincible Iron Man...but the Larroca art keeps me away.Is he still going to be the artist with #25's new direction? Or is he staying?

The only reason I despise being a comic fan at all is my brethren. You guys whine and gripe way too much about any change, whether grand or slight. Did I read someone complaining about the suit's thumbs??? Come on kids, now you're just digging for things to bitch about. Personally I'm loving the new armor. I think it looks more technologically advanced than any previous Stark armor (which would be, btw, the whole point), not to mention more intimidating. The "LED lights" (another complaint) give it a more compelling look, as if even the armor itself can barely contain the power held within. I even dig the gauntlets (yes, I mean the THUMBS) which make him look like he can pack a bigger punch. I say BRAVO Marvel. Effin' BRAVO."As always I'll carry you - kicking and screaming - and in the end you'll thank me" -Tyler Durden

The colours remind me of the old silver & red from Armor Wars, but the design looks very similar to the tech suit Stane Jr. wore recently. They should have had Salvador Larocca or Sean Chen design it, not someone from the movies.

yeah feels like a lot of smoke up my bum. The armor isn't any different from the past, except for some of the changes in lines around the ribs. It's not like they went all WILD AND CRAZY and put a virtual human face on the breast plate.

IronVengeance
IronVengeance

I'm shocked at how many people are complaining that the armor is sleeker. The armor becoming more trim and streamlined was a prevailing feature in the evolution of the armor for most the character's history. Even the past writers like Bob and Dave and Kaminski will mention when they designed a new armor how they felt thats the way the armor should evolve. Just look through the past armors and see. Original clunker -> the first Red and Gold Classic -> Silver Centurion Silver Centurion -> Neo Classic This progression continued through the Modular armor in the 90's, which wasnt a whole lot bulkier or mechanical looking than this new armor. It wasnt until the Crossing that the trend got thrown out of whack, and the bulky, mechanical look has only been around since the Grell armor. Everyone seems to think the bulky/mechanical style was the norm. It's not, the streamlined and sleek style has been the one that has dominated the series for years.

Jarrik32

[quote@Mummra_t_e_l As for it being sleeker: surely it should be clunkier seeing as Tonys lost most of his abilities. But this will obv change by the end of siege. It sorta reminds me of Bianchi's "re-design" of the Astonishing X-Men costumes- far, far too similar to the previous design to stand on its own- hell, Bianchi was drawing Wolverine in his version of the Astonishing costume way back in Wolverine Evolution! Its just an interpretation of the current design, not a whole re-design!
I think thats the point, to show that it is still clearly based on extremis armour but far more refined, rather than something that's appeared out of nowhere. On the point that it should more clunky, IT technology is all about fitting more and more into a smaller space and proceeds at fast pace. from a fan point of view it's all about smaller and cooler armour, it was fun as a one off but no-one wants to see tony clanking round in power armour all the time .

I really like the look and design of the new suit. What I can't wait to see is the new applications and how it will update all the past features to a newer and higher level.

[quote@boscoe I love the Iron Man comics. I buy all the miniseries, etc. And I know the design of the suit will not impact the quality of the comics or the characters. However, this suit is not doing it for me. It feels like they are trying too hard. Why are his thumbs gold? What possible reason could Tony have had to look at his new suit and think that it need gold thumbs instead of all red? In addition, why does the suit have to be smaller and sleeker? Technology gets smaller for convenience, however, this isn't a laptop. Tanks aren't smaller and sleeker, they are large, powerful crushing machines that barrel through anything. Weapons and combat vehicles aren't always supposed to be small and convenient, some need to be big and tough. Why not just have him wear a man shaped iPod suit and call him iRon Man?
I agree... this looks less like armor and more like some wet suit. Not thrilled at all. Marvel is wrecking a good thing with this design!

IronVengeance
IronVengeance

[quote@novaman74 Yeah, it looks cool, but it really doesn't look all that different from past suits. Whatever.
I cant agree with that statement at all. It shares some design elements of other suits but for the most part it is very original.

entombed

The new armor definetly looks cool, but I still like the suits that look like real armor and have a more mechanized look to them. His name being Iron Man brings to mind more images of a suit that looks like the Warmachine armor than the new gear. But taking inspiration from fast, sleek sports cars would be a bad idea since they're primarily made up of light-weight composite materials that can't handle damage very well and don't stop bullets lol. Not really my cup of tea but still cool looking.

I'm mind of "meh" on this. I do like the sleeker look and the more advanced feel, also that they didnt rely on the (terrible) extremis armor for much inspiration, it seems more heavily influenced by the armor from "The End" one shot a few years back. I think there are too many"gaps" with the gold and the LED lights are completely unnecessary and distracting. I am interested to see the new capabilities of this suit, hopefully we'll see some true upgrades and new systems which we havent seen in years. I'll give them credit for going in a completely new direction though.

It somewhat reminds me of the design Ultimate Iron Man had in Loeb's terrible Ultiamtes 3. Which irks me...I hope this isn't a throwaway suit like that one was

looks like he is rocking more of a guyver look, cause you know the ironman anime comes out this year.

The new armor does look pretty cool, but I guess this is the final nail in the coffin for the Extremis suit. I can't say I'm surprised since Tony had been without Extremis since Secret Invasion, but I had been wondering if they were going to bring it back or not. Overall the new suit looks good, but there seems to be a lot more gold on the armor than there had been, and the chest plate looks more like the one in the movie. I am curious as to what this new direction for Iron Man will be, but given Matt Fraction's superb writing on Invincible Iron Man, I'm not worried, and I look forward to having my jaw hit the floor. I just hope that Pepper will return as Rescue, and I also hope Maria Hill will stick around too (that is unless one is killed off in a future issue of Siege...)

sparkyiii2k

I think the suit looks silky smooth I can't wait to see the improvement as far as performance goes, I wonder how much quicker and faster the armour is compared to the old one...

Mummra_t_e_l

This looks waaay too similar to both the movie costume (which is understandable from exec's pov) and the extremis armour to stand as its own design! It looks more like any artists interpretation of the extremis armour. As for it being sleeker: surely it should be clunkier seeing as Tonys lost most of his abilities. Thanks Marvel for releasing the new suit. I was wondering what it'd look like. I gotta see it in action sequences to really feel it though. It looks like a regular dude decked out in athletic gear - thereby making the suits overall feel more natural and organic.
