The New Marvel.com

Take a tour of the freshly revamped site and learn about our cool new features

Welcome to the all-new Marvel.com! And when we say new, we really mean new!

“It's an utter and complete overhaul, we ripped it to its studs and rebuilt it,” says Seana Baruth, Marvel’s Vice President, Digital Product Management.

In addition to a new look specifically designed to better showcase Marvel’s rich artwork plus color-coded sections letting readers know where they are in the larger context of the site, the real changes have function in mind instead of form. For example, Search has been completely rebuilt to give more accurate results.

“We've completely replaced our site search, so if you go to Marvel.com and type in ASTONISHING X-MEN #1, you're immediately going to get results that are relevant to that query which is a far cry from the old site,” Baruth explains.

The new Comics Browse function allows for customizable searching through Marvel's vast catalogue of titles with various filters to help find exactly what you're looking for fast. For example, if you want to find every issue of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN written by Dan Slott in 2010, first browse the title, then filter by creator, get the results and filter once again by year—you'll have a complete list of the comics you're looking for!

Other brand new features include a section devoted to playing games on the site, Comic Events pages chronicling crossovers like Chaos War and Shadowland all in one place and the ability for readers to comment on more than just news stories.

So as you surf around the site, be sure to visit some of your old favorites, but don’t forget to try out the new stuff, too!

Here’s a list of things to do on the new Marvel.com to help you get started:

-Check out awesome art and pictures
-Read a FREE Digital Comic then Subscribe to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited

Looks cool but it erased all my old must reads. I'm going to need this new updated location function just to find the comics I was reading before.....

Not really so thrilled about the new site...I guess it's kina missleading beecause it looks LESS complicated but unfortunetly it's the exact opposite :(

Really don't care for the new layout. The new wiped out my "must read" selection. It is more difficult to follow the new dig releases.new is NOT better.

Hey, Spaxicle, what other websites do you use for a comics catalog? With the sorry state that Marvel's is in I'm lost. At least I have all my hardcovers and trades preordered at my local comic shop through January.

It seems a little over simplified, but at least that stupid WWHulk ad at the top right corner was finally taken down.

I'll have to be blunt, I thoroughly dislike the new layout. The comics catalogue, with the filters and what not, isn't as good as it's been described to be. I was at least expecting a specific search engine for WITHIN the comics catalogue yet we're expected to use the site's general search engine where we'll get everything else and then the issue we're looking for. Plus, I'm not sure if this is because a lot of things have yet to be straightened out, but I can't find whole issues, let alone series on the comics catalogue, like Generation Hope and the limited series X-Men: To Serve and Protect. I will acknowledge that a lot was put in to revamp the site (kudos to that and do keep it up), but it really seems like a lot more needs to be done and some changes weren't altogether necessary. This might be a small issue, but it's frustrating to only limit the main headlines (the ones with the image headlines at the main page) to only 5 as compared to the 15-20 of the previous site. This, of course, won't stop me from checking this site for updates, but until it is tweaked, I'll have to rely on other comic websites for a comics catalogue. Nonetheless, I'm still thankful for the effort that's been put in.

i find your new web page layout... unfortunate. it is far to similar to the side run by the competition. a sight that is difficult to navigate due to its non linear nature. i want a sight that lets me see exactly what articles are available today, not by subject. i was a daily viewer of your sight. that will no longer be the case. this site does not lend itself to viewing anything other then the splash are. I really would like to know why you did this? Were there problems with the old site. yes but they were problems of missing and broken links. a shiny new paint job on the front page will not fix this.it will distract, and prevent me from finding the broken links but not remove the problem. i see nothing that leads me to believe the site problems have been repaired, just hidden.

I agree. Somethings are better but somethings just got worse, like navigating the digital comics.

Hopefully you find time to tweak and refine Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited, because the Front Page and the calendar are both poorly thought out.

Phobos_Aaron (and all others who have commented on the new comics catalog) -- we're working on making the catalog the best experience it can be for you, so thank you for the comments. As you have experienced, parts of the new Marvel.com are still being tweaked and refined. We're working hard to make sure every time you come to Marvel.com, you enjoy it. Thank you!

I agree with every single post here about how incredibly horrible this new site's Comics Catalog is. I honestly just created this profile maybe 10 minutes ago simply because I felt I needed to complain. (So if I get removed for telling the truth it won't affect me at all) The old comics catalog was so much better and easier to view. I used to be able to click ONCE just to see ALL the releases of a month and then view by week, and all that was in alphabetical order with the comics differentiated from the trade paper backs. Now if the plot preview for a comic is too long you completely cut off the price of the comics so if I want to know how much it will be I have to click on more which doesn't expand it but take you to a completely different page just to find out that Amazing Spider-Man #649 will be $3.99... (true example, I have it open in another tab right now) That's completely asinine, which is an actual word not a curse, (felt I should explain it to the people who thought it was smart to screw up something that worked perfectly) Those are just a few things, though I honestly can't find anything about this "new" catalog that is better, or even anywhere near as good, as the old one.

Not only is it hard to navigate, but only a small percentage of the upcoming hardcovers and paperbacks are listed now. Not to mention that the lists used to be in aphabetical order. I admit that the new site is far prettier, but I prefer functionality.

I simply can't beleive that this new site was based on any input from fans. It used to be very simple to access the future comic lists for upcoming comics, now you have to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to navigate to see that info. Very disappointing!and very frsutrating as well!

Looks like the "My Must Reads" lists got blown away for us Digital Comics subscribers. Will those be restored soon?

I just looked at DC's website for the first time for a comparison to this website and I found there March '11 previews in less than 10 seconds. I still haven't found Marvels.

I've been a long time Marvel fan & a fan of this site...until now.I HATE the way this site is now set up. It is not easier to find things. I couldn't find any recent solicitations to tell me what was coming up & when I did it was so confusiong as it shows you everything from 3 years ago! Tried to filer it & it was almost impossible. The old site way easier. That's my rant for the day.

I have to recommend that you update your comics schedules. December is already coming up and you have yet to post when the What If? specials are going to be released. I use your comic schedules to budget my weekly comic book purchases.

Suggestion: Convert all of your EAN/ISBN numbers to number strings (no hyphens). Program your search function to strip out hyphens from anything resembling an ISBN.Suggestion: Separate your BOOKS from your comics to make searching easier. (I search for "Squadron Supreme" the new hardcover, and get 106 results, with no way of determining which result is most likely, as there is no abstract describing the item listed.Suggestion: Post new books as soon as you send the data to Books In Print and other sources. Make certain that every book listed in Previews two months before publication is perfect on the website. (That $75 Squadron Supreme hardcover? No cover picture. Tch tch.)
