When one god falls, another must rise to take their place.

With Hercules missing in action, Amadeus Cho picks up his best friend's legendary-and quite powerful-mace beginning in PRINCE OF POWER #1 this May from INCREDIBLE HERCULES writers Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente with art by Reilly Brown.

"As Hercules was the greatest hero of the Iron Age, which ended with 'Assault on New Olympus,' Amadeus is destined to be the greatest hero of this new Heroic Age the Marvel Universe finds itself in," Van Lente explains of the power transference.

Pak and Van Lente always had Amadeus' new role planned, as it marks a major turning point in their ongoing story.

"Once the overall plan for INCREDIBLE HERCULES coalesced in our minds around 'Sacred Invasion,' it was conceived as a long single story of about eight story arcs long," notes Van Lente. "'Prince of Power' is the seventh arc."

"We're entering the third act of this first massive epic we envisioned for INCREDIBLE HERCULES," adds Pak. "So get ready for a non-stop series of payoffs and revelations. All of the themes and relationships and emotional storylines that we've been building for Hercules and Amadeus are coming to a head."

Though Amadeus will receive a massive amount of power in the coming months, he may need even more to complete a very personal mission.

"He's going to spend much of the series getting even more power, in order to rescue someone close to him," hints Van Lente.

"Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, has played the role of patron for both Hercules and Amadeus for the last three years," explains Pak. "Now she's finally revealing her true plans for Amadeus. The big question is whether Athena's vision of heroism jibes with Amadeus'. Generally the risk when mortals get tapped by gods to do their work is that the power they receive may be too much for them to handle. But the danger for Amadeus is that he may actually want more. As a bit of a tip-off, the first issue in the series is called 'Blasphemy Can Be Fun.' It gets crazier from there."

Besides Amadeus, a number of familiar faces will leap from the pages of INCREDIBLE HERCULES to PRINCE OF POWER following the events of "Assault on New Olympus."

"The entire supporting cast-or what's left of them-is returning from INCREDIBLE HERCULES, with Athena as the Machiavellian head of the Greek Pantheon [and] allegedly Amadeus' patroness, but he's stopped trusting her long ago," notes Van Lente. "Hebe, Herc's grieving widow, is his executive assistant. And he has a certain snake-haired love interest that may be playing an important role..."

Plus, fans can expect at least a pair of guest stars as the series opens up.

"Keep your eyes open for Amadeus' big-brained colleague Bruce Banner and a certain long haired individual of the Norse persuasion whose name starts with a T and ends with a-oh, heck, he's on the cover," Pak gives up. "We're talking about Thor! The Odinson plays a massive role throughout this storyline. An extra bonus is that [artist] Reilly Brown, who knocked the 'Replacement Thor' storyline out of the park, is back on board for PRINCE OF POWER.' He draws an incredible Thor-and his upgrade of Amadeus's look is swoon-worthy."

Van Lente notes that Thor will play "an important part of the beginning, middle and end" of PRINCE OF POWER, "But whether he's Cho's ally or nemesis remains to be seen," warns the writer.

"As we've seen during the 'Replacement Thor' storyline that ran in INCREDIBLE HERCULES #132, #134, and #136, Thor's rivalry and friendship with Hercules is as strong as ever," reminds Pak. "We'll see Thor's first encounter with Amadeus in the HERCULES: FALL OF AN AVENGER two-parter that starts in March. But not until PRINCE OF POWER will we learn just what the Thunder God thinks of this upstart toting Herc's mace."

As Van Lente noted above, Amadeus Cho will help to usher in the new Heroic Age in the Marvel Universe.

"[PRINCE OF POWER] sets the new status quo for Marvel mythology in the Heroic Age," he elaborates.

"One of the great themes of classic mythology has been the risk that mortal heroes take by encroaching on the turf of the gods," continues Pak. "We're about to see the impact of the biggest transgression a mortal can make upon multiple pantheons in the Marvel Universe. And the end of the story will bring an insane twist that no one's going to see coming that may split the heavens themselves."

Both Amadeus and the Greek Pantheon will have their hands full in PRINCE OF POWER, with Van Lente and Pak hinting at even more menaces on the horizon.

"A team of Hulk sometimes-allies, sometimes-enemies with a mythological bent that we haven't seen for a while returns to enact a hostile takeover of the Olympus Group," teases Van Lente.

"[And] Amadeus is about to acquire his very own arch-nemesis," promises Pak. "Long-time Hulk fans, get ready for a big surprise!"

[quote@bobby0207 [quote@ultimatespidy13 disney messed up marvel i quit
Do you honestly think Disney has anything to do with this series? Or in fact the day to day running of Marvel? Do you know anything about business, and what this type of corporate takeover actually meant for the company? Do you see any change in the writers/ publishers at Marvel caused by the takeover? How after barely a couple of months you copuld think Disney has 'messed up Marvel' is beyond me. xx
dude chill. i was just miffed that disney bought marvel, now what thats said i think princesess power is adumes cho or whatever his name is really? your right though but just chill

[quote@Zajdalen What???? Greatest hero is Cho?? That stinks! Hey I like him but come on.
1Obviously i can't be sure, but i wouldn't worry too much about that statement. If you read every article about a new book/ new direction that a character is going in, the writers will always fill it with hyperbole and statements like ...'greastest avengers lineup yet', 'strongest ever mutant' etc... i just think this is one of these cases. Trying to big Amadeus up as the next big thing. I don't think you need to worry about everyone turning to him instead of spiderman and captain america yet lol. xx

I can not wait to read this new Prince of Power series, ever since WORLD WAR HULK I have become a huge fan of Amadeus Cho, he's like a more arrogant Peter Paker which I thinks makes him even more cool plus he gets to run into THOR this will be awesome

[quote@Zajdalen What???? Greatest hero is Cho?? That stinks! Hey I like him but come on.
I like Cho, but the "greatest hero of the heroic age" he is not. My other gripe is that his new look is too similar to Trauma for my taste. (The suits, the black hair long enough to get in the eyes, the rather skinny builds.) I'm not saying people will get them mixed up (transforming into someones fears looks quite a bit different than using math), but c'mon just because they don't wear spandex doesn't mean they have to look like brothers.

I love this book for two reasons, mythology and Herc's boozing and womanizing. It's nice to introduce a new character to the MU and give him some fame for awhile, but they had better bring back Herc. I have loved Pak's work on this and regard it as his best current work, so I will continue to follow the story to the end, but come on I will be extremely let down if Herc doesn't come back by story's end.

I'm on board. It's only a mini-series, after all, and Herc will presumably be back for the next act. I just hope we get some "Meanwhile . . . " scenes that briefly show us what Herc is up to in Hades while Cho is on Earth, maybe even show Herc meeting up with his newly departed half-brother Ares . . .

I kinda wrote something erlyer that was really kidna venomus on the whole "new kids on the block" thing that seems to be going on. I'm going ot try to be a little more non bitter this time. I"m not an amudause cho fan. Bot he and herk are jerks diffenrce is herk is the kinda jerk you want to hang out wiht cuae he's funny. While cho is the kinda jerk you just want to get as far away from as humenly possible. I dislike the black widow but even i almost became her fan when she knocked the kid out that one time. It was surly the most heroic thing she ever did at leat to me. I know the MU needs to move foward so I understand it. I just hope the MU dosn't beocme like MC2 with all their "kids" and "succesors" running the place. I know new is importent but what I want is a continuation of the storys of the orginal spider man and the orginal fantasic four and so on an so fourth. Once again I know why they need to do this I just don't wan to have to deal with thease new kids much.

I've liked Incredible Hercules since before it started (when it was still Hulk's title with Hercules starring), so I am sure I will love this. And I love both Amadeus and Herc.

This is gong to be awesome! A big shake up in the god realm with Amadeus Cho becoming the greatest hero of the new Heroic Age?Oh HELL YEAHAmadeus Cho is the man and I can't wait to see what he can do with that mace. He is like Karnak, being able to find the weaknesses, but then he has Hercules's mace to hit it.
