The only thing that could make Deadpool any crazier? Gamma irradiation.

As the evil Intelligencia's plan has turned a number of Marvel's greatest heroes into raging Hulk-like behemoths, writer Jeff Parker and artist Humberto Ramos bring you HULKED OUT HEROES #1 and #2 on April 14 and 28, respectively. The two-issue series will star Hulkpool, a Hulked-out Merc With a Mouth who will have to deal with similar versions of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four.

According to Parker, the heroes have "definitely [taken on] Hulk personas, their Ids are driving the bodies, just like with [the] classic Hulk. They mostly think in terms of what makes them mad."

The Intelligencia sought to change our heroes at the end of HULK #21 for a number of reasons.

"Hulking them out accomplishes a couple of things," notes Parker. "It derails the heroes' attempts to save the day entirely, and creates more chaos that contributes to the overall plan. It clearly doesn't work to Bruce Banner or Red Hulk's advantage."

Fans caught a glimpse of Hulkpool at the end of HULK #21, but they'll get the chance to know him a lot better in this series as he quickly differentiates himself from the Intelligencia's other victims.

"He's the one that manages to take some initiative and pursue his own course while everyone else is concerned with massive anarchy," reveals Parker. "Hulkpool only has one thing he really wants destroyed, and that's Deadpool. You had to know there was some self-loathing going on there."

Parker will also reintroduce readers to a number of classic Marvel characters, including Devil Dinosaur, Rawhide Kid and the pirate Blackbeard.

"[Hulkpool] finds Doctor Doom's time machine and has his old pal Bob send him back so he can kill himself," the writer says. "But Bob first hits a preset that sends 'Pool to the first mission Doom ever used the machine for, and he meets Ben Grimm-Blackbeard, as [the original] FANTASTIC FOUR #4 showed us. And the destruction of history continues quickly from there."

As for what made him think of using these characters, Parker knew he had to include a wide variety of heroes to play off Hulkpool.

"With a Hulked-Out Deadpool, you need to pull out all the classics for an adventure," he reasons. "Dinosaurs, cowboys, pirates, Nazis, monkey-people-it's all in here."

HULKED OUT HEROES serves as a type of bridge between Fall of the Hulks and World War Hulks-or, as Parker puts it, the series "will lighten our mood before some heavy stuff goes down! And you'll see a lot of the Hulked Out Heroes beating on our leads in the main Hulk books and the SAVAGE SHE-HULKS [limited series]."

Over the course of the two issues, Hulkpool will come across a number of Marvel's most famous heroes, as well, but they might not survive the experience quite the same.

"Hulkpool is also going to 'help' a lot of Marvel heroes just at the points where their origins would normally begin. Watch out for that tree, Doctor Strange! Hey, get that glowing spider away from that boy!"

Apology to Mr. Loeb. Once again I followed my head. His Hulk writings is not near as exciting as his first books, though they do seem childish sometimes.

Loeb's not that bad. Rulk(the book) is just suffering from a bad case of Cable-itis. Too much filler, not enough meat.

So we agree. As long as Pak is writing Incredible Hulk I'll be buying at least one hulk book.

I wish Pak was writing the Hulk book too. I don't care for Loeb's writing as much. To me, this book seems like a 6 year old is writing it.

I have no problem with the... concept of Deadpool being "hulked". Disregarding that this sounds like a script written by a 6 year old with a passing knowledge of Hulk.... it opens up a pandora's box of silliness that makes me laugh like when I see all the DC characters start showing up with Lantern rings. I know it's only my opinion, and besides spider man and War machine the HOHs look pretty sweet, but after Pak's Planet Hulk, and then World War Hulk... I've been spoiled be awesome storylines and Loeb's adamantium harpy writing just isn't cutting it.

I started reading Deadpool last year and I absolutely love his character. Now since he got gamma infected, I'm more encouraged to read this book. I will respect spectersofthepast post, since we're all entitled to our own opinion. I just like the idea of deadpool's humorous person being a hulk.

You think? I've actually been waiting for something like this to happen since Deadpool jumped into the heart of a gamma reactor.

This is the Hulk book that I really want to read. Hulkpool will be hilarious.

Deadpool has a lot more experience with instability, so it figures that he'd have more of a grip on the current situation.
