Yeah, her caption does read a bit off. The usual saying is "Anything you can do, I can do better!" but hers seems to imply that she can do it, just not as well as the person she is emulating, that the other person is still better. Of course, it could be just looking that way because the writer attempted to rearrange the phrase, and failed to account for its possible connotation.Whether hers is an adeptness or an actual case of not-as-photographic reflexes a la Taskmaster, technology or genetic engineering (sigh, how we miss the simple X-gene) I will admit her design and codename are cool enough. But after Prodogy (David Alleyne), Echo, years of Taskmaster, and the slew of non-powered-but-extremely-skilled fighters, she'll have to have far more interesting things about her than just a copy skill power to really make a mark.

[quote@boscoe Maybe Finesse is related to Task Master, although I am just throwing that out there, with no proof, like there is for a Hazmat-Radioactive Man connection.
That's the first thing I thought when I read her caption. She can learn skills, although she would gain a lower level than the person she is copying them from, I guess.

[quote:05f7cc0418="Agent 27"]These last two, Hazmat and Finesse, look promising. What they all need is a good teacher/mentor. Looking forward to this book.Foster for Frost Giant and Van Dyne for Valkyrie and while we're at it The Ancient One for headmaster of Avengers Academy!
Hahahahahaaaa. I only just noticed the last line Agent. That would sure would be a sight to see if the Ancient One actually rolled up in this (MU) day and age. The few magic users across the MU really seem to have little practical apprenticeship, as one would expect of sorcery. I see a role for Strange in something like that though; especially after seeming set to actually become a mentor both during the search for a new Sorceror Supreme and his mini. (Those who can't do, teach. non?)Hazmat and Finesse do look promising, but I find myself a little disappointed with the potential repetition there seems to be of late in the last decade or so. If Hazmat actually turned out to have links to Radioactive Man (which on its own wouldn't have bothered me one way or another), I'd wonder why that would have to be now, seeing as they just announced a son of Radioactive Man supposedly being in Young Allies as part of the Bastards of Evil .

[quote@BlackSamurai [quote@wbgeek This is just me, but I dislike the fact that they are putting reptil in the "real" universe, but that is mostly because I just don't like the super hero squad.
He's been in the 'real' universe for some time now. It was earlier mentioned by others and you may have missed it, but he appeared in an Initiative Oneshot (I think in 2008) and mostly wanted help finding his parents. He was mentored mostly by Tigra, trained a bit with Komodo and a few other recruits one on one, and ended up being directed to the Savage Land (partially to help the search, partially to escape Initiative misuse). If your first introduction to him was the show, and you dislike it, I can surely sympathize why he'd rub you wrong appearing here.
Thanks for the background on him. I thought I had all the Initiative stuff, but I guess I missed that one.

[quote@BlackSamurai [quote@boscoe "I am the spotlight" doesn't mean he is arrogant, it could mean that his powers have something to do with light. The quote is alluding to his powers in someway.
You have a point, and I did not ignore or forget the power set; but I presumed that they intended a double entendre: being arrogant and making a play on the light aspect of his powers (mind you I don't associate spotlights with lightning, but it does tend to light things up, ergo...)Don't get me wrong. I'll be there when he does get his character actually fleshed out in the comic, and only then will I be able to see whether he is indeed arrogant/overconfident (or trying to appear that way to hide an insecurity). Either way, the little comments accompanying each character in these promotions is meant to hint us in to something about them and that's part of the interpretation I gathered from it. It doesn't reflect on whether I like him, dislike him, etc. as a character... I'm just noting that in order to distinguish a large roster of characters from one another, arrogance is one of the stronger characteristics one can give a character to make hm stand out from the rabble, whether it's likable arrogance or such designed to make us dislike them a bit (or a lot).Meekness, sympathy inducement, troubled, withdrawn, caring, determined, etc. are all other characteristic archetypes used in the medium to give an immediately identifiable identity to them as well, until more page time can back those personality projections up or turn them on their head. Like I also said though, aside from arrogance or light aspect pun on powers, the statement could even be interpreted like a drag queen's flamboyant stereotypical speech antics --- and that doesn't mean I actually am assuming Striker'll be a drag queen either, okay? Before, I was just clarifying for you that such talk of his arrogance was stemming from his statement, not his name. I'm up for seeing what he will be when the book comes out.
I agree with your point as well. I am not assuming that he isn't arrogant, he very well might be, I am just not assuming he is either. His name might be a reflection of his powers and his attitude, like Braniac 5 from Legion of Super Heroes. someone calls themselves Braniac, they are either really smart, really arrogant or both.I also like these two new characters. I think that Hazmat is related to Radioctive Man. That would be very interesting.Maybe Finesse is related to Task Master, although I am just throwing that out there, with no proof, like there is for a Hazmat-Radioactive Man connection.

I was hoping that the Academy would have some of the characters that I liked from A:TI (Cloud 9 topping the list), but it looks like they are just going to make up More new characters who will be subsequently abandoned once again. This is just me, but I dislike the fact that they are putting reptil in the "real" universe, but that is mostly because I just don't like the super hero squad.

I have to say I'm really not all that impressed with any of this. I've been the main person cheerleading for the other Avenger titles that are coming out. This one just isn't doing it for me. I don't like the whole emo look that they all have. As far as Fortress goes, I'm thinking it probably has something to do with the numerous false bodies that the Red Skull has had. If feels like every few years his consciousness get's put into another body. It wouldn't surprise me if this is a body that was being developed for him or was abandoned by him or something and someone else got ahold of it. Who knows. He's the only character that is kinda making my spidey sense tingle. Veil is kinda cool looking, but I have the feeling that she's a variation on Cloak. Mr "I am the spotlight" looks EXACTLY like Tempest from DC, just with a little more black. Reptil has never impressed me. My 8 year old son watches Super Hero Squad and HE thinks the character's stupid. I'm really not trying to be the guy that tears everything down, because that's not me. When it comes to Avengers books, I'm on board 100%. This just isn't grabbing my interest. Still, I'll be willing to pick up a few issues. Who knows. I've had my mind changed before. I always love being pleasantly surprised.

I know for titles of comic books it's not a good thing to have the same one out there twice (legally speaking). The same for big name characters but then you have villians like Scarecrow out there in different companies and nothing much said. [quote@tubaisland06 Well now we know who the heavy hitter for this team is. He actually looks kind of cool, sort of Red Skull mixed with Dr. Doom. I can dig it. I guess the question is, is he all robot, is he a cyborg, is he a human soul trapped in a metal body ala Full Metal Alchemist (not that I watch the show and am glad I quit since Edward was just gonna die in the end anyway). It would be cool if this Fortress dude had the same sort of abilities to control machines the way that War Machine does. I mean he had his legs blown off and just attached his upper torso to a freakin tank. Awesome. Still on the fence about this title although it is peaking my interest. I also like how they included Reptil who was a character they made up especially for Super Hero Squad, which is a pretty damn funny show for a kids Marvel cartoon. I love all the comic book jokes that little kids wouldn't really get. I mean common, Dr. Doom checking his e-mail and adding Magneto as a friend on Facebook was priceless. I am happy Reptil will be in the book, he seems likable and average. That doesn't sound exciting, he is the type of person you don't to see anything bad happen to. But with Gage steering thing he is exactly the type of person that will go through some serious changes! What is with the criticism on Striker? I don't think his name sounds arrogant. By that basis, Superman should be the most arrogant person ever! I think Striker sounds like the name of the guy who goes in first, who takes charge, and heads into danger before anyone else, because he can handle it. He strikes, hence the name. Just like enforcers on hockey, they are called enforcers because that is what they do, not who they are as people.

Y'allz crack me up! Scout badges for your support of the [minuscule] movement for Foster and Van Dyne, Agent 27. I was pretty blah about Reptyl myself, while reading the Initiative special, but I don't exactly dislike him. I'm psyched that there is hope for the characters of Initiative if they remembered him. As I said before though, I hope they remember the larger reason why people want to see new characters; we want new blood to take off and hope Marvel, and other companies, still have the chops to build someone from scratch and take them all the way to the big stage, but that won't happen if they keep bringing in newbies every time the previous wave started to get interesting. Trauma, Cloud 9, Gauntlet and Hardball have gold potential as brand new characters built from scratch, and Penance, Constrictor and Bengal have some solid resurgences, though Bengal's steam sorta tapered off since the Shadow Initiative faded out of view so long. Not as sold on Komodo but she had potential, and, this may only be me, but the Scarlet Spider(s) just seem soulless.
