As the Children of the Atom step into the Heroic Age, they'll have writer Victor Gischler and artist Paco Medina leading the way with a new X-MEN #1 this July launching a new ongoing series spinning out of the events of Second Coming.

"[Readers] can expect a lot of good action and a lot of good storytelling [for] the characters they know as the X-Men," says Gischler. "They're going to be going on some high-profile, high-energy missions. We're going to see the characters develop but with more focus on missions. Each arc will be an event or a mission. It's going to be a lot of fun. It's going to be pretty entertaining I think."

The opening salvo of the new series pits the newly re-formed team against the bloodsucking undead of the Marvel Universe, a group the X-Men has some dark history with.

"It's going to be a nice fresh look at vampires," promises Gischler. "I think people are going to be pretty impressed."

While the writer says the new series borrows a slice of concepts from the past, it certainly won't be a complete return to the old days. Instead, it sets up the idea of the X-Men in the new Heroic Age-the X-Men of tomorrow. But who will comprise that team?

"There are going to be some characters that are going to be some lynchpin, popular characters," says the writer. "But we also want to bring in some faces we haven't seen. Who have we seen plenty of? Who do we want to see more of? And who do we always want to see because they're popular?"

Although some characters will almost certainly appear-don't be surprised to see some claws in the mix-many less familiar names have been thrown in for consideration.

"We got a lot of mutants auditioning for the part," teases Gischler. "But for the first arc, it's going to be kind of wide open. It's going to be a big event. It's going to be a lot of fun. It's sort of come one, come all X-Men. After the first arc, we're going to narrow it to a core four or five characters that are in the cast month-to-month. And also maybe rotate in some surprise faces that people don't normally see in an X-Men book."

A huge fan of the Chris Claremont era of X-Men growing up, Gischler admits that he fell out of comics after entering college. However, a few years ago, the author got back into the habit and began catching himself up on his favorite band of merry mutants. Now being able to contribute creatively to the same team he grew up reading provides an almost inexpressible delight for the writer.

"I was a huge X-Men fan for a long, long time-my memories are very positive," he recalls. "Now I'm having the thrill of rediscovering the characters and the stories and everything. What [writer] Matt Fraction is doing [on UNCANNY X-MEN] is awesome. I'm not the first person to think that by any means. It's a real

delight having read them as a teenager and now being asked to participate in that and have a part in it."

What Nightcrawler is goanna die in the second coming? :( thats not fairthat is goanna take a long time for him to be ressurected![quote@colossalpikachu [quote@Xmenfan23 [quote@elykes :nightcrawler: Where's Nightcrawler?
Thats what I thought!
Nightcrawler dies in Second Coming, reading the other forums and news from Marvel it seems like he has a big moment coming up in the arc so I wouldn't expect to see him around for a while. At least until he gets resurrected.By the way, loving the idea of this story arc, just wish it wasn't another reboot. I'm fed up of series restarting with first issues again.
I hope Storm is more up in front with the team in this new series, and not just floating around in the background throwing one-liners.Why have such a powerful character toned down and become part of the background beats me, so I have a lot of hope for this new series. And I'm really excited for it.: )

I hope Storms on the team, it's time she was featured as a regular xman again and not as a background character. I'm excited for quality xmen stories, don't dissapoint.
