Writer Fred Van Lente plans to ring in the new year with a classic partnership featuring a brand new face with POWER MAN & IRON FIST.

Following SHADOWLAND: POWER MAN, which wraps in November, the writer will be bringing the new Power Man and Iron Fist Danny Rand together for a brand new limited series he hopes will live up to the first team's classic pedigree from the 70's.

"Like everyone else on planet Earth, my favorite creative team from the original POWER MAN & IRON FIST was Mary Jo Duffy and Terry Gammill," Van Lente shares. "They proved street-level books didn't have to be all grim and grit, but they could be fun too. That's the ethos I want to retain, and expect a lot of return characters from that run too, particularly Jenny Royce and El Aguila!"

As readers who have been following Shadowland will note, the new Power Man sports a different set of powers than his predecessor, but a very similar attitude to that of a young Luke Cage.

"I'd say the headstrong up-and-comer Power Man is constantly pushing his more traditional, disciplined partner, the martial artist Iron Fist," says

Van Lente. "They're buddies, but because Danny is so much older than PM there's a mentor dynamic going on there, except PM doesn't think he needs a mentor."

As a young hero, Power Man will very much need a mentor, especially if he wants to really help his community, which is exactly what POWER MAN & IRON FIST will focus on when it kicks off in January.

"It takes the Marvel Universe's favorite super-powered [private investigators] into new digs, a new case, and with some insane new villains," Van Lente explains of the story. "This is the original Marvel Universe big-budget mismatched buddy action flick, with the explosions and attitude to match."

With such a big budget feel, the book demands an artist who can handle such things: enter Wellinton Alves.

"He and I worked together on MARVEL ZOMBIES RETURN: AVENGERS, and I'm excited to do a longer form project with him," says Van Lente of his artist. "We're gonna try and really turn some heads on this one."
