Dwayne McDuffie, former Marvel editor and writer of such books as DAMAGE CONTROL, FANTASTIC FOUR, DEATHLOK, BEYOND! and more, passed away February 21.

McDuffie began his career in comics as an assistant editor for Marvel, and shortly afterward began writing comics of his own. After a number of smaller projects, McDuffie wrote the first four-issue DAMAGE CONTROL series, featuring characters he would later return to in three additional limited series.

In 1992 McDuffie co-founded Milestone Media, serving as Editor-in-Chief of the company’s comics line. McDuffie and his collaborators created a number of series starring multi-cultural super heroes, with one of their creations, Static, later going on to star in his own animated television series, “Static Shock.”

In addition to serving as a writer and Story Editor for “Static Shock,” McDuffie went on to work on animated series such as “Ben 10” and “Justice League Unlimited,” most recently serving as a producer and Story Editor on “Ben 10: Ultimate Alien.”

In 2009, McDuffie won Comic Con International’s Inkpot Award for his career in comics and animation.

He is survived by his wife.

All I've read was that he went into surgery for something and died from complications of said surgery. R.I.P.
