The X-Men, one of the world’s most popular super hero teams, have always been at the forefront of the biggest stories in comic history, and today is no different as Marvel is proud to announce the wedding that has everyone talking! Today, fans worldwide learned on ABC’s "The View" that Jean-Paul Beaubier, aka Northstar, proposes to his boyfriend Kyle Jinadu in ASTONISHING X-MEN #50, on-sale May 23 in comic stores, on the Marvel Comics app and at the Marvel Digital Comics Shop. The creative team of New York Times best-sellers Marjorie Liu and Mike Perkins have put Northstar and Kyle’s relationship to the test—and now they’re about to take their biggest step yet. But will their path to wedded matrimony in New York City be smooth or are there hidden dangers around the corner?

“The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. “We’ve been working on this story for over a year to ensure Northstar and Kyle's wedding reflects Marvel's 'world outside your window' tradition."

Then, on June 20, don’t miss the wedding of Northstar and Kyle in the pages of ASTONISHING X-MEN #51! This unforgettable issue features covers by Dustin Weaver and Marko Djurdjevic, along with a special “Create Your Own Wedding” blank variant cover! Select comic book retailers nationwide will host wedding parties at their stores to celebrate this joyous occasion, with special items exclusively available at participating stores!

“The story of Northstar and Kyle is universal, and at the core of everything I write: a powerful love between two people who have to fight for it against all odds,” said Liu. “This is the quintessential Marvel story, one that blends the modern world with the fantasy of super heroes in order to tell an exciting story that begins with a wedding—and continues in ways you can’t imagine.”

Northstar was first introduced to comic fans in the pages of 1979’s UNCANNY X-MEN #120, a member of the super hero team Alpha Flight and antagonist to the popular super heroes. A gold medal winning Olympian and successful businessman, the French-Canadian super hero quickly became one of the most popular members of Alpha Flight when its ongoing series launched in 1983. In 1992’s historic ALPHA FLIGHT #106, Northstar became the first openly gay super hero when he announced his sexual identity through national media. Since then, Northstar has not only joined the X-Men but become one of their most popular new members. Northstar and Kyle have been a couple since 2009, garnering a large fan following since their first appearance together.

“As a long-time fan of the X-Men, it’s not only a true honor to be part of such a historically significant story but also a complete joy,” explained Perkins.

Don’t miss the proposal everyone’s talking in ASTONISHING X-MEN #50, available tomorrow in comic stores, on the Marvel Comics app and at the Marvel Digital Comics Shop. And then save the date for June 20, as Northstar and Kyle tie the knot in ASTONISHING X-MEN #51!

Well, Now I know why I am not going to read this anymore and not let my kids start to read Marvel. It is a shame, that Marvel had to go here with children reading this, as an active parent I will not spend my money on this. I have bought Marvel items for last 20 years...and now its about to stop

This is a sad attempt to be PC and make Northstar relevant. Thanks, Disney! I see why you bought Marvel.

Northstar has been one of my favorite mutants since I first started reading X-men comics. I am happy the dude is fnally getting hitched. All of you idiots need to stop reading comic-books if this event bothers you this much. LGBT super-heroes and super-villains have been appearing in X-men and other comic-books for several years. And they are not going away just because you dim-wits are too insecure, close-minded, and stupid to understand that love and relationships come in different forms.

This is beyond wonderful. What a difference if this had happened fifty years ago, when I could find nobody like myself in any kind of literature or film or television. Congratulations, Marvel!

I applaud Marvel for what they are doing. The X-Men have always been my favorite group of comics and it saddens me that some people here cannot see that this is a continuation of the issues that the X-Men comics have always dealt with. Prejudisim, bigotry, hatred against those who are different, and what it means to be part of a minority group are issues that have permeated the X-Men graphic novels and to not recognize this as a normal part of our society is truly sad. Luckily. the creators of the X-Men have always realized that these were the issues the X-Men were designed to deal with. I truly respect Marvel for having the courage to treat all with respect.

Colossus taking a demon... No problem. Wolverine slashing and killing... Excellent. Storm being worshipped as a godess... Of course. School children getting blown up on a bus....Sure. Nazis blast Washington DC.... Great climax. A gay couple wants to marry?!!! Gasp, now that crosses the line?!!! Get over it people! Gay people exist! Gay people have been getting legally married for years! Marvel has shown many social issues over the years and this is one of them.

Marvel has always showcased examples of the real world. Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu characters. Unwed Cyclops and Emma. Luke and Jessica unwed baby. Jewish Kitty and communist Colossus. A committed gay relationship wants to wed, now there is an out cry? The irony, mutants have to deal with fear and hatred based on their genetic makeup and the hateful remarks are the real life version of what is portrayed in comics.

Look idiots, if you accept that comic writers are going to make heterosexual romance the subject of these stories than you have to accept homosexual romance as well. Even if you are against homosexuality (as backwards an opinion as that may be) it reflects the world as it is.

I am disappointed to read the earlier comments below. But, I will get over it because I am very, very pleased that the creative leadership at Marvel do not share those sentiments. THANK YOU, Marvel, for your courage to reflect in the 2D world of comics realities of the 3D world. As a long-time gay fan, thank you for not treating me as a second-class reader as some might treat me in the land of flesh-and-blood.
